Why dont you just go to Autozone, Schucks etc. and have them read the codes. Then let us know what they are and maybe we could help you out. It could be something as simple as as sensor or something.

If the parts stores don't work out for you I have a friend with a Snap On OBD-II computer that can help you out. He doesn't charge as much as the stealership or other car repair places, and is very honest.

If your willing to go to salem I can scan them for free, you might as well just go to autozone.

About figuring distances from where you are, Shotwell's buddy is close to I-205 in Vancouver WA.

DEQ will read your codes for nothing and give you a written printout to boot.

But speaking of repair shops in Portland, does anyone know of a shop that can replace control arms and struts for reasonable $'s?
