I finished a full 3.0 swap into my 1999 CSVT about 4 months ago. It runs like a bat above 3,000 rpm, but does not run so well below that point. I tried to get a mail order tune from ADC, but they no longer sell mail order. I talked to Brenspeed and also no luck. I am either looking for a mail order tuner or looking to tune things myself. I am starting to talk to SCT about trying to tie a Taurus bottom end map with my SVT upper end map.
Anybody have any experience here? I tried another members tune, but no luck.
What is your PCM code?
Figure that out and I'll see what I can do.
Also if your car runs like crap below 3K rpm , check your plug wires and plugs first and then start checking on othe things like fuel injector sizing.
Brent said he had never done a 3.0 CSVT swap, only did Mustangs. I am not in Indiana, so I can't visit his shop. Keith at ADC said mail order was too much work, too many problems that were not based on his tune, a fair statement I am sure.
I suppose crap is a relative term! Car has some minor surging, just does not feel 100%, but pulls thru this fine. It is very drivable, but not as good as it should be. Plugs, injectors, etc are all fine. Again, it runs awsome up to 6-7000rpm!
I will look for the box code tonite, I don't have it here at work. Local dyno guy said buy an SCT and spend about 2 hours on the dyno ($250/hour with tech) and he may be able to get something going. This approaches $1,000 which about equals my entire investment so far, including engine, new clutch, etc! I am trying to find someone who has been through this, not spend huge money for someone to learn!
use Warmonger....after he finishes my tune though.
Symptoms almost sound like an intake leak.
Did you swap injectors as well?
I'm working with Brenspeed right now on a tune for my car. They most definately make tunes for 3L Contours. Talk to Brent.
Sounds more to me like since he did the full 3L the PCM still thinks the secondaries are in there. He's probably getting it where if he lays into it too hard under the IMRC opening point, it probably stumbles REALLY bad.
Thanks for all the input. Here are my comments to your suggestions.
My PCM is a SFG2, if that helps. SCT says the 9415 tuner does not work with the Contour, what are you guys using? The tech guy said I need a 9400.
The car idles great, I don't think I have an intake leak.
I used everything from the 3.0 except I am running my SVT MAF. I think both engines have 19# injectors, but not sure. They are stock 2001 Taurus injectors.
I will call Brent back in the morning. I am looking for a mail order tune, maybe that is the hitch? I hate to have to drive 5 hours to get the tune! I swear, he acted like he never heard of the swap, I will pass on info you guys have PMed to me as well.
I agree this is an issue with my PCM not know what the hell is going on now that the IMRC is not popping open the secondaries. Full airflow below 3000 rpm is screwing with it's logic. Once I clear 3000 rpm, get out of the way, it flys.
Thanks again for all the input.
yea it sounds fishy. Brent knows about CEG and about the swap because I talked to him for a while when I bought my xcal2 and PRP from him. Try again and clear it up...
Im having the same problem, wish there was someone in cincy that could tune my car.
I think "Tunes by Tom" is the next big thing.
