So, Ive read that the 225 50R16's will fit the factory E1 rims. Thats all fine. But since the tread got wider, and the aspect ratio didnt change, Im not sure Im clear how that changes overall height?

Basically, Im trying to figure out if there is going to be any fitment issues on a car which will, most likely, be outfitted with H&Rs.

Its a 99 SVT.

It may rub, it may not. With a little tweaking they should fit okay, depending on the exact tire: manufacturers vary a good bit on dimensions, even though the size is the same. Run searches involving the terms "225/50", "rub", "rubbing", etc., and you'll find a lot of info.

225/50/R16 will rub with people in the back seat going over bumps.

They also looks HUGE on the 16's IMO

I'm running 225/50/16 with the BAT kit, and I get no rubbing, even with passengers. But mine isn't as low as with the H&R's. Sorry if that doesn't help, I don't remember the drop with H&R's.

They do look huge.

I'm running P-zero Nero's in 225/50. Under hard cornering they do rub the rear struts. Other then that no issues.

eh, don't have the patience to deal with even the chance of having rubbing issues. Better just roll with the stock size.

I've got H&R's with 225/50's and it rubs in the rear when the suspension fully compresses with 4 people in the car going around a corner and a little bit in the front when turned to full lock. But it looks really nice with them. Just get the 225's and don't worry about the rubbing prob its only minor.

I never had issues with rubbing, but I hated the way they looked and cornered. IMO, 225/50's are too big for the stock rim.

I only have pics with the 205's currently but I will try and get some with the 225's in a few days. Those are stock Cougar wheels, same size as E1's.

With a 99 SVT and stock suspension, the chances of you rubbing on 225/50-16 are very low. Personally I love the way they look, they fill up the wheel well just a hint better than stock size. I have run two sets of different brands, and even loaded up, no rub.

If you want to see the numbers on just how much taller they will be, check this out:

A lot of people have them and like them, do some searching.

I had slight rubbing on my struts with those tire sizes. The rubbing, most likely, occured while autocrossing though.

I never had strut rub, although I did hear the fronts grind against the fenderwell liners in tight turns on occasion. I haven't decided for sure if I'll do 225s on my next set or move to 205s, though.
