Wheel Im-balance? - CEG Archives

Ever since I put on my rims the car going 60 on the highway would shake but then at 80 it'll be fine..I know my allignment is legit and the rims and tires were balanced when I got the tires mounted but I guess its different when they are not on the car. You guys think an improper balance would cause such a ride? I am going to the tire place for them to have a look at it..

Did you get hub rings with the wheels? If not that is likely your culprit

Likely your rims are not hub centric like the stock wheels are (the hubs locate and support the wheels so they are centered and do not put additional stress on the studs). Hub rings fit in the hub-bore of the wheels so that non-hubcentric wheels still locate themselves on the hubs correctly not leading to them beings sligtly off center which is likely your problem.

Get the correct hub-rings for your wheels. Any wheel/tire place should have them. I cannot recall the correct bore size , but make sure they don't give you a set that is slightly larger as they will eventually ovalize.

I've got some rings here that are 73mm outside diameter. If they'll work for you, PM me.
(Inside should be 63.4mm on all contours)

Make sure that you indeed don't have the hubcentric rings and that the wheels don't happen to already be hubcentric for our application. If they do have the rings/are hubcentric, then yeah it's probably the balance.

interesting, i read about it and it works like this

check it out asap as you could snap a wheel stud(s) and a wheel could possible come off, think it happened to someone here not to long ago

LOL You asked me about the vibration and I didn't even think of it.

I had to buy a set for my wheels when I got them too. Do it ASAP though before you damage some studs.

I need to find out first what size I need..but good part I havent really driven my car that much since the rims have been on..and its only been a week..

Call the wheel manufacturer. They can tell you what size you need and may even be able to sell them to you. If not, they will be able to tell you where to get them.

would it say on the rim?

you guys think metal ones are better or the newer plastic/rubber ones? I hear metal tends to rust quickly..

If it said it on the rim... it would be way too easy.

You could look but I don't think it's there.

I have the plastic ones and they're fine.
