Winter tire reviews - CEG Archives

Anyone have a review for winter tires that fit our cars? I'm looking to buy a set as my Yoko AVS-dB's don't enjoy playing on slush or ice.

Good or bad, maybe this thread would be helpful for anyone looking to shop for winter treads.

Dunlop Grasphics DS1's P205/60QR15's

very good tire and the price is low, a set we had going into their third winter gripped better then half worn Dunlop Sport A2's, I never got stuck and didn't fear pulling into the sloped loading zone we have at our building, I never got stuck others did

my father said it was like driving on summer roads, just at a lower speed

I ran alot of highway travel last year with the car also and the tire handled the dry fine, nothing like a performance tire but not bad

one note, or maybe about snow tires in general, I am not sure, even new they don't like large amounts of water on the road, more so when you want to take a bend in the roads at speed

check out the winterforce made by bridgestone firestone. They're very nice, cheap and directional.

I've had Bridgestone Blizzaks (WS-50, 205/55/16) since Jan 1998 and they're still going strong. Excellent snow and ice traction. They have around 15K miles on them and the tread is holding up nicely. Quiet on dry pavement which is a nice benefit of the soft winter rubber compound.

I've had the Blizzaks on a couple cars (including my SVT) , and I can say they are GREAT snow tires . They're a little "squishy" on dry pavement (between snows) , but it's a fair trade-off for the snow traction . The set I have on my Jetta (I have 2 Jettas , BTW) are nearly worn out , but worked great last year .

I tried out the Dunlop Graspics on the wife's Jetta last season , and I think they worked really well . Maybe not quite as well as the Blizzaks , but still FAR & above better than an all-season tire . Plus , they're cheaper than the Blizzaks , which helps the wallet

A friend of mine uses Michelin Arctic Alpins on his SE-R Spec-V and says that they're "the bomb" , but I don't have any personal experience with 'em .

All of these (and all similar tires) must be run on ALL 4 WHEELS , just so it's brought up

never used blizzaks but I would think this is very true
