Don't want to name any names, but the Duratec guys are getting prety nasty about my 1/4 mile time.

Jeez, I figured after getting ZetecRacing off my back I would be in the clear.

But the Duratec guys aren't too happy now.

Zetec gets no love.

Just thought I would share.

It's funny how young car fans seem to think FWD and four cylnder means "hi tech" and v6 or v8 is "jurassic".

FWD dates back to the 30's and four cylinders were around in the 1800's.

I didn't say anything aout the 4 cylinder being high tech.

I said the V6 owners don't seem to like (calling BS, saying its impossible, etc) a I4 going faster or as fast as their larger engine.

I think it is very possible due to weight. I just don't understand why they wouldn't give you props.

they probably just dont give you props the same reaon no one on the street will give you props...

how often do you see a contour with a granny or clueless older person driving it...

its just not a common thing...especially the zetec contour...except amongst the ceg...and the zetec gets barely any love from here either...

but from...if those are your times...major props!

All the major Zetec players stuck up for me, thanks!

Even one SVT owner here in Oregon chimed in.

Just trying to get respect for the "Z".

I guess I know even less because I have a ATX Zetec.

The Zetec is a strong little engine with great potential.

2.2s shaved from a 75HP dry shot of nitrous is really good.

Considering most Hondas only see ~1.5s from a 75HP wet shot.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the custom burned chip was well worth the money.

Can't wait to get my TB optomized and the Eram ordered.

Then I'll be going back to get new dyno runs (which I'll post) and reburn my chip.

Hopefully I'll be in the 13's.

Long live the "Z"!

A few side notes about my times;
1) mid 16.7's was average for my 3 runs OFF the bottle.
2) mid 14.5's was average for my 3 runs ON the bottle.

Yeah I had a Z, was fine.

But, what do you Z'ers think of the new 2.3L DOHC engine coming to replace it? 170 HP w/o a turbo and should kick Honda is the a$$. It's now in the 2003 Ranger and Mazda 6i.
And please, no "Pinto engine" comments.

The Duratec v6 only has a bad water pump before 1999, and it is now upgraded, in the Mazda 6s with 220HP. Should be in the C/D338 "Tauri/Contour replacement" for 2005, also.

the pinto was bad but the 2.3 they used was rather good....
I think the new 2.3 will be a good replacement for the Zetec.

Whats with the Pinto 2.3?

Pinto's came with either the English 1.6 (Pushrod) or the German 2.0 (SOHC). The German 2.0 was pretty hot at the time. The Pinto sucked, but not the engine. Those engines are still used in racing. You can get some serious HP out of them. The 2.3 IIRC, came later. The Mustang II was using them. I had a new 88 Taurus with the 2.3. All of 90 HP. Tranny dissolved at 59000 miles and the head gasket started leaking shortly after. Was a company leased car and about 60% of the Taurus' failed the tranny or head gasket (1987 and 88 models). Sucky motor...

Tempo used it too.

the pinto did use a 2.3 as well as the SVO mustang... and I know a few in the chicago area with 2.3 SVO pushing over 300 rear wheel HP the motors in the SVO is almost built proof.
Posted By: Kremithefrog Re: Duatec guys aren't too happy - 11/09/02 05:54 AM
rangers also had 2.3L engines with 70hp.

blackie, my bro, has the tbird turbocoupe. which has the 2.3 turbo from 83-86 no intercooler and T3 turbo(spools up slower than IHI)165 stock, then 87-88 they had an intercooler and IHI (spools fast to motivate 3300lbs) 190hp stock, nick(blackie) with a k&n and boost controller and no spare hit a 14.9 thanks to 18 psi!! stock they hit 9 psi and ran a 15.7 according to motortrend. The mustang SVO came with a T3 and an intercooler and had 205 stock, some guy in mustangs and fast fords had one with no nos pushing 450 hp not trying...me jealous

Ranger DOES not have the 2.3 with 170Hp. I saw one at the track run 18.6 with a MTX. That 2.3 is a Mazda engine not a Ford, just like the Mazda Protege has a 2.0L and is not a Zetec.
Posted By: Kremithefrog Re: Duatec guys aren't too happy - 11/09/02 04:47 PM
the 2.3L engine replacing the zetec in foci is a mazda engine.
Posted By: Paul Kienitz_dup1 Re: Duatec guys aren't too happy - 11/11/02 04:31 AM
Wasn't the Mustang SVO engine designed or made by BMW?
Posted By: Y2KGreenSE Re: Duatec guys are happy - 11/11/02 05:30 AM
"the 2.3L engine replacing the zetec in foci is a mazda engine."

Yes, it pretty much is, but then the Protege platform will be repalced with the Focus one, in 2005. But, then again, Mazda is controled by and 34% owned by Ford.

More parts sharing is the present way car companies are doing business.

how come they 're not using the 4cyl duratec 2.3L in new foci? not strong enough?? and gm has some nice new 4 and 5 bangers out based on the vortec. they have some very respectable power.
