i have the 95 2.0 contour, its completely stock. i dont really know much about exhaust systems. what would my car sound like if i kept the stock exhaust and put on a better resonator? or would it sound better if i kept the stock resonator, and put on a new muffler? i was thinking about this one:

or maybe this one:

i dont care about performance, i just want a nice deep sound, which of them would sound better? and what kind of difference in sound would there be between the stock resonator and a new one? (with the new muffler on)

thanks!!

If your looking to replace resonator or just the muffler, you have to look for 1.75" inlet hole. If your thinking of upgrading your exhaust completely, your best bet is to find a SVT exhaust from, you guessed it, another Contour SVT, replace the muffler/resonator w/ one that fits (2.25") of the brand you like.

Definately check out the Exhaust Database for suggestions. Unforunately you may have to increase the size of your pipe in order to find something that fits. On the bad side, it cost a bit more money, on the good side, you get a few more HP out it and a nice growl to your engine.

you dont HAVE to get 1.75" inlet. You could just get 2.25 inlet and outlet on the res and have the pipe stretched to fit from the stock pipeing... Thats what I plan to do when I get the cash, Im going to have the stock tubing expand and go into new resonator, I picked out a magnaflow 2.25"/2.25" then from the resonator have 2.25" pipeing all the way back to my el-cheap-o can muffler which should make a nice deep tone.

i just want a cheap way to get a nice sounding exhaust. i dont want duals on a 4-cylinder, sounds complicated and expensive. and hard to find. how would my car sound if i just got one of the exhaust tips linked above? (and not get a resonator)?

like you were driving a honduh. svt exhaust systems are easy to put on and find. the only "modifacations" you have to do is get a hanger for the passenger side and extend the pipe some. just check the classifieds for someone selling their stock svt system and take it to an exhaust shop and get it done. you can get the exhaust done up for under $100. svt systems are cheap and sometimes free. i paid 120 for my system and an msds y-pipe which i sold and i paid 96 at the exhaust shop because it was cut and need to be extended as well plus the hanger, but they do excellent jobs. you will definately get a nice tone even out of a svt exhuast system. if all your looking for is sound, just unbolt your exhaust and drive around for awhile (not legal and very annoying after an hour or so). i did that while i was working on my exhaust and it really makes you appreciate mufflers.

well..that my $00.02

or you could wait it out...eventually your muffler will rust out...

so other than an SVT exhaust, what kind of muffler would you guys suggest to put on my stock exhaust system? i dont need anything real fancy, my car has 117k miles and i put 40 miles a day on it, 7 days a week, i dont expect it to last super long. i just want a nice sounding exhaust, what kind/brand of mufflers would you guys suggest?
