Word. For starters you'll want to put a straight pipe through that cat, as the turbulence in that main cat is going to be horrible after gutting it.

Cheap/Free mods: K&N open filter & MAF adaptor, optimizing your throttle body, gutting your precats. Before you ask what these things are, where to buy them, how much they cost, etc., use the search function as these have been discussed as long as CEG has existed.

well, i was really wanting to get better fuel mileage. i know this thing can get better then 27mpg, i had two other 4cyl that got way better then that, an escort and an eclipse. i am far from being a newbie, i just want some insight into these 4cyl cars. i would rather have a 5.0 anyday.

you are right, i am a cheap bastard

this may sound weird, and i'm not joking but a "cheap" mod to do for better gas mileage would be to buy flip flops, drive with them because you can actually "feel" how hard you drive. Just wear the flip flops when you drive and drive as "light" as you can. That should get better gas milage.

i am already driving light as can be. hell, it is shifting about 3-3300 rpms now.

Unless the Zetec is way different in power, 3000-3300 is not very low to shift at. I shift at 2000-2500 in my Duratec ATX. The better you dirve the better it will be cause these cars hate town driving.

ROTFLMAO! I redline my Zetec every day and still get 25mpg. BTW, it's good for the lifters.

Cheap and easy way of getting better mileage... Check your tire pressure, put in new plugs, and get read of any dead weight.

You could get a smaller underdrive pulley...
Posted By: Kremithefrog Re: what do you think? - 09/28/05 05:26 AM
Best mod: Do nothing. Save up. Buy something fast.

Even better...
WALK

i am not wanting something fast. i plan on getting a mustang, so i don't need this thing to be fast, just wouldn't mind it to have alittle more nuts and better mileage, thats all.

Superchip is the best mod for an atx (although you will have to run 91 octane). O, what do ya know. I got one for sale.

An external cooler is also a very good idea for an ATX.

I would go in this order:

Cooler
Super
Chip
Corvette

Jeez, I got one of them too and wouldn't mind parting with it either. I mainly use the contour for short trips between work, doesn't really need it.
