He has a Cougar, but it is still a Zetec. In other words, about 9psi (it will vary depending upon turbo) and with an intercooler.

BTW, hi newbie! Where are you located? Also, please use the search feature in the future. These topics have been covered quite a few times.

Thx, but will I have to reinforce engine or something, like piston, head, cams, chip.....

BTW I'm for Sherbrooke, Qu©bec, Cannada
Your tranny will need to be beefed up and running 200WHP will cut the life of your Zetec down significantly.

Personally, I wouldn't run more than 160WHP on a Zetec with stock internals. That is about 150% the rated output. More than that and you are asking for problems.

If you are looking for a reliable 200WHP, I would get a built MTX75 transmission, forged rods, and forged pistons.

BTW, there are no turbo kits for the Contour. It is all DIY. You can read more over in the Forced Induction forum. Like this.

HTH,

nitrous does not damage your engine.
There ARE turbo kits.. one, to be exact..

the ADC Turbo kit comes in one variety, but talk of a smaller kit (less $$) is going on...

Anyway... just wanted to point out that there ARE kits... just... none for the Zetec (as this thread is about)

There are lots of Focus's running 200whp for several years now with no problems. Clutch and tranny mods are only needed if you're gonna flog the car a lot. Otherwise stock is fine.

Reading Corkey Bell's book, it says doubling the stock hp will only add around 20% extra stress to the engine. At least turbo'd because a quick spooling turbo will push most of it's power down low in the rpm band where the engine can handle it easier.

Easiest way to go FI is to do what LoCo did and buy the Focus JRSC kit and install it. The only problem is it won't get you anywhere near 200whp without serious mods. Virtually any turbo will get you 200whp with just a good exhaust.

It's all about tuning and how you drive it. If you run to the redline every shift and drive like you stole it, it won't last. If you just drive semi easy, it will last as long as most engines last...minus 20-25%.

But with used medium mileage zetec engines avaliable as low as $350, spares are easy to find.

Wow, I was unaware. It's good to know that the Zetec can handle that much power with stock pistons/rods. Thanks again for the info Seawulf!

It's not for the Zetec so who cares.
The Zetec can use 100hp runs of nitrous as long as you upgrade your fuel pump(the stock piece runs out of steam REAL QUICK), run colder plugs and get a custom burn for timing retard for the nitrous use. I would either run a multi-port setup or a dry kit seeing as the Zetec has a gigantic loop in the intake that allows the fuel to seperate from the intake charge. This makes a standard wet kit VERY iffy to use. All of this and you could have an extra 100hp on tap for about $750 if you shop right with no damage to the engine. If it runs lean with ANY power adder you will break stuff.
The stock engine is good to about 225hp before you start to break internals. Anything more and your living on borrowed time. The only inexpensive way to turbo a contour/mystique is to do it yourself. There are PLENTY of threads on here about turboing the Zetec. Good luck and welcome to the board.
I've run 100HP shots through my car, it can be done.
Could a 7psi eagle talon turbo fit????

Working my way there.
Most OEM turbo's for 4 cylinders will fit. I'm using a WRX turbo. You'll probably have to re-clock the turbo to get the inlet and outlets to point where you want them. The hardest part is making the exhaust manifold, but using a stock Focus header with a small adapter plate/pipe is a good alternative.

The main problem with stock OEM turbo's is they will run out of breath past 9-10psi. At 7psi I did 190whp, and at 9psi I did 200whp, not a huge difference. But if you just want a easy 200whp with quick spool, coupled with the low cost of buying one used, they're a good buy.
Thx for the info.

Another thing...

Could you show me some pics (if possible)
And give an idea of the prices.

Plz...

That's the link to the Focaljet FAQs for FI. Lots of good info and the Focaljet is where I learned everything I know about the Zetec. While the Focus Zetec isn't exactly the same as ours, it's close enough that 99% of the info crosses over.

This is the link too the google cashe of a turbo FAQ I wrote for my Cougar forums. A forum shutdown wiped out the main FAQ so this is all I have right now. Only the first page is avaliable.
