What contributes best to the zetec, meaning if you were to have a stock zetec, what would be the first to be modded?

Thanks,
Billy

At this current moment in time CTA is not making anymore intakes until they get more intrest. But yes an Intake is a good place to start. Also if its a ATX a cooler for the ATX is very very helpful.

Where could I get an ATX Cooler?
Posted By: 98Ford2L Re: Best zetec mod? - 06/22/05 12:06 AM
Ok so this is sort of a dorky question, but does getting a higher flow intake affect gas mileage?

I'm not really into performance, because mods are usually expensive and my car has a long way to go before it's fast,

But if I an intake would help, and not affect gas mileage much than I'd probably do it.

I would have to agree with intake for the MTX and a cooler for the ATX.

As for the intake;
The CTA intake, while a nice kit, is not optimal.
And it is fairly pricey.
Search around and you'll find some alternatives.
My contribution can be searched for under "proper intake setup".
And other people have come up with their own or used ones meant for the Focus.

An intake wshould not hurt gas mileage,
because you are removing the restictive sound control tubing,
so it is easier for the engine to breathe.

1995 2.0L
As I made my mods, strange thing, better mileage! Now I get 4 Cdn MPG more than stock.
OPINION:
As long as you do not have to change your Ijectors(due to Mods), you should see an increase in fuel efficeincy. Intake, exhaust, UDP,Aluminum flywheels all help to improve what is already there. Also there is no ONE thing that will make a BIG difference(excluding FI & NO2).
Posted By: Loco4G63 Re: Best zetec mod? - 06/22/05 02:56 AM
As far as gas mileage.....I can still get 350-400 miles on a tank highway. With my normal driving I average about 300 to a tank.

So how do we get CTA to make more? I want one.
Posted By: Hardrive Re: Best zetec mod? - 06/22/05 06:34 AM
Best bet to check for sale threads on fastcougar. I personally started with the exhaust. I felt that with the cat up so close it corks up flow for quicker cat lite up. Headers are not cheap so if you want just hollow it out.
Just my pennies.

must admit i was quite surprised to see the economy uneffected with mods on my zetec, but it was using alot more fuel until i got a proper custom chip setup.

wow, I just filled up my stock zetec... one tank, 700kms.

Nitrous is cheap enough.

So if I remove the big black box thingy (plenum chamber or something?), and take some 2.5 or 3 inch pipe, and run it from the throttle body to to my stock airbox and stock filter will it do anything?

That is basiclly what my intake is.
But proper size tubing (2.75") and couplers are required.
Also keeping the big black box is a plus.
And there are a few other little tweeks to be made.
Posted By: Hardrive Re: Best zetec mod? - 06/23/05 01:39 AM
Really? Isn't the black box a type of resonator? I wasn't sure. I removed mine long time ago.
Posted By: Mystique97 Re: Best zetec mod? - 06/23/05 03:49 AM
I think he's talking about the air filter box?
Anyhow, about removing that stupid intake resonator, did you do that Sleeper, if so what'd you do with that little air sensor in that tube?

Yea. I hope they make more. I was thinking of getting mine this summer.

Yeah I was referring to the big (empty and seemingly worthless) black box from which the piping goes to the maf and then to the airbox.

I was guessing that removing it was a good thing, no?
Posted By: SleeperZ Re: Best zetec mod? - 06/24/05 06:24 PM
Keep the airbox and keep the plenum above the throttle body, ditch everything else and replace it with proper size, straight tubing.

That sounds good. SleeperZ, now If I want a single exhaust on my zetec what size piping would be best for optimal performance gain and what muffler?

Thanks

with the peatec? 1 1/8" should be more than enough ...just kidding..on a lightly tuned i'd say 2 1/4"

Two qestions if you don't mind.

What all are you referring to when you say ditch everything else? Are you referring to the piping that sticks down in the fender or something like that?

And just out of curiousity, why keep the plenum thingy? I'm sure there's a good reason, I'm just curious what it is.

refer to the CAI intake thread under zetec performance.

2.25" exhaust pipe is optimal for basic bolt-ons.
If you are truely planning on getting a header,
go with 2.5".

Things to ditch;
The flat, black silencer that sticks out towards the front of the car.
The black accordian tubing.
All the stuff in the fender.
And the triangulaur rubber piece that connects the airbox to the fender (replace it with a piece of 3" pipe).

Keep the airbox and the plenum above the TB.
The plenum is their for an air reserve.
It benefits throttle response and helps to keep idle smooth.

Would it be possible to post a picture of what you just described. I wanna see exactly if those parts were removed when I got my exhaust done. I'm not sure. So I wanna check. I don't know much about these parts.

I don't see the point in going 2.5" with the addition of the header...thats big for a zetec with or without a header.

Not really. The SVT Focus stock exhaust is about that size.
Posted By: SleeperZ Re: Best zetec mod? - 06/25/05 08:13 PM
Dyno proven (on Foci), a Zetec with all the bolt-ons + header will gain HP going from 2.25" to 2.5" exhaust.

But I stress, 2.25" is enough if keeping stock header/cat combo.
