im calling that guy tomorow. The bolt that i need can i get that at ford or do i need a bolt specialy for a dmd

i think you could use the stock one!

You could, but its a torque to yield bolt, meaning your only suppose to use it once.

You yield the bolt when you install it which means the original one is crap and can't be reused.

Don't be cheap, buy a new bolt!

I think the new bolt is only like $2.50 at BAT. Can't be all that much more from Bill J.

Um... I think what he means is the bolt that you buy is the stock one, not a special bolt. Not that you can reuse the old bolt. Or maybe I'm wrong

I think this is due mostly to the fact that since our cars are no longer made, we have scavenger like tendancies towards any part made momentarily available to us?

I got one at 8:00 this morning pacific time! I'm not sure any cougars got one:P

It's a torque-to-yield bolt and a deformable washer.
Replace the bolt and the washer when installing the DMD.

I don't know about you guys but I would much rather buy my DMD from a guy thats well known on our site and on the NECO site. Sure you'll spend a few more bucks but you know your going to get a great product and not get screwed. Thats why I ordered mine from James today. Thats my $.02!

All of mine are coming directly from Ford Of Europe. Pending how they arrive, they will be shipped in OEM Ford Packing.

As far as Mr. Grimes selling DMD's, I'm not feeling any buyer's remorse because I bought from James. The way I see it, everyone wins in this situation. Two people get to sell product, CEGers (and Contour owners in general) get value-added (shipping included, bolts included) access to parts cheaper than other sources, especially when those other sources don't have any inventory.

My thanks to both Tim and James (again) for doing this. This is what's going to keep our cars running for a long time to come

Yes, it is imprtkllr's thread, but the thread at newcougar.org he's referring to is autumn's. James was nice enough to register himself here and keep us updated in this thread, rather than having us all join newcougar.org just to post about the DMD's he's selling.

Honestly, though, I think we're getting all riled up for nothing. As long as there's no fraud going on here, the fact that two people are selling DMD's is a bonus. Tim's post in the classifieds still has me a little confused, though

In trying to get you all those free bolts and washers, I was able to get the bolts with no problem. The washers are on a US FORD and UK FORD Backorder. I will not hold shipments over a lil washer that can fit in an envelope.

Obviously I have upset some people here, and that I regret that I am involved in a thread that has resorted to flaming.

The truth is that through contacts I have made at ford, I am able to ship what I think is a very necessary upgrade. This part has the potential to extend the life of many enthusiasts' cars that they have sunk a lot of time and money into, I should know because I have an SVT. Trust me, when I heard there was a chance for major engine failure, I freaked. So, I went looking for the part, and I found a bunch of them.

I never thought that offering my help would make so many people upset. But I appreciate what this board has done for me; it has helped me save a lot of time and money, and I want to help in return, and this is something I can do.

So whether you buy from customcougars.com or me makes no difference, I just would like to see enthusiasts get the parts they need so they can continue to drive the cars they love. That's it.

So why is it you were looking for a DMD in the CEG classifieds? This seems suspicious to me.

As I mentioned above, once I became aware there was potential for major engine failure, I immediately began looking for a DMD. But instead of finding just one, I found a BUNCH of them.

I've installed the DMD on my car and been very happy with the result. So now I'd like to help others get what could extend the life of their vehicles.

The bottom line is, I am very grateful for this resource, and why would I want to ruin what has been very valuable to me? As I mentioned before, my motivation here is to help other enthusaists. Because I have a business license, I am able to buy from a wholesale warehouse; an option that is not available to the general retail market.

It's funny, back when Terry was selling them for 120 I reported I found a guy in England that would sell one to me shipped for like 80-90 bucks US. I reported that and got the same enraged "you're undercutting people's business" stuff.

Anyway, Art H. from out in atascadero reported that Gary at fordpartsonline may have found a US source for these, but that could be wrong as I never checked with them personally.

At what point is the belt worn enough to bother replacing? I only have 35k; I'm guessing that won't be a problem?

When you take your old one off, flip it over and flex it into a u-shape. If it has a miriad of miniture cracks on each of the v's, it's time to replace.
