New air filter noise...

I just put in the KN RU3530 and there is like a howling high pitch noise.

Is this supposed to happen??

I am not sure abou thtis so please get back to me?

Sometimes mine gets in a funny mode where it resonates with a loud hum. Blipping the throttle gets it out of that state. Is that what you mean?

Its kind of like a whining noise around 3500 RPMs.... maybe thats just the sucking noise... or is too much air getting in??

I dont have a heatshield yet considering I just put it in...

Is this normal?

Hmmm ... the noise is not really at idle.

I am going to put my heatshield on adn then check for any air leaks...

am I the only one that notices at what rpm this happens at? SECONDARIES!?!?!??!?!

Mine definately makes more noise, but its not a "bad" noise. You can really hear the induction, though. Kinda addictive, my mpg dropped after the install, cuz I can't keep my foot off the throttle.

It seems like an annoying noise to me, like I said a whine.

I am going to make sure there are no leaks or anything.

What else should I try?

The first time I tightened mine, there was a gap at the bottom of the TB. Make sure it didn't come loose as you were tightening the clamp.

no secondaries opening there, iirc

It is a high pitch whining noise only when im on the accelerator. Happens around 3500 but not when I have the pedal down, only when I am pushing sligh pressure on the gas.

Its the intake whistle, mine does it too, its normal. I actaully like the sound, sometimes i drive down the street at 1/4 throttle just to hear it.

ha thanks, I thought I may have been a retard who couldn't install an intake!

Good thing I am not that dumb... hey it's my first mod I've done so far myself and not the last!

Don't think so, it's just the air moving through the intake.

In the cold mine whistles real loud. A friend of mine asked me if I had a turbo on it

I love the sound though.

Personally I like it. Why people dislike the sound is beyond me, though I will offer some input: Open element air filters are not restricted by sound deadening OEM parts. So of course it's going to sound like a vacuum cleaner at times!

Like I said, I think it's a good sound. Just accept it as your car's new musical tune

It always makes sound, but at 2k-2500rpm or so it whistles. I think it's whistling because it's bored.

lol, funny.

and i got the little whistle too, but with the stock intake. i removed some little plastic thing in the airbox, and then it sounds like i got a little turbo running around in there.

The "whistle" is probably nothing more then the air being sucked into the filter.

And it would be worse once secardaries open because of increased air flow.

Except mine and toaster's whistle at lower rpm.

So lesson is, it makes noise whenever it wants.

I had a little air leak so it whines a little less, but nevertheless it still whines.

You get used to it... i kinda like it too

Mine does it also...pretty much all open filters will. Like everyone said most like the sound...yes it kind of sounds like a turbo. Personally I love the sound
