Well my MAF adapter from BAT came today so I pulled out the 3530 and went to put it on. I did a search to see if anyone has had issues with the flange diameter. Many said they thought it wouldn't work but didn't hear about anything after. When that clamp gets tightened the rubber flange will push out in one spot or another. This is with me holding the filter all the way on and someone else tightening the clamp. I finally used some pipe insulation, which was to thick to wrap all the way around the MAF adapter so I only used it on one half. Got worried that there would be small hole where the insulation ended and the MAF adapter started when done tightening it. What gives with it, anyone else had/having issues with theirs? Sucks to have 2 people put this thing on right. Might have to go to the 3130!

if the maf adapter doesnt go on snug before you tighten down the clamp, then you have the song size maf adapter.

Mine was the same way. I ended up getting a roll of this thick tape stuff from Lowes that turns into solid rubber when you layer it. I put a few wraps around the MAF adapter and it's very solid.

MAF adapter is already mounted on the MAF and I ordered the only one the BAT sells. I'll try the tape from Lowes. Know what brand/type it was?

Sorry, I have no idea. I found it on a rack in the plumbing department. It's about the size of a masking tape roll, but it's very thick black stuff, with a white teflon layer sandwiched in the roll to keep it from sticking to itself. It came in a bubble pack and was pricey - $10? It's very, very stretchy, and once it touches itself and sits for a minute, it's stuck for good. Someone in the store should be able to point you to it. It's one of those "1001 uses" type of products that you never know where to find...

thats weird..mine seem to have fit fine..it didnt snug onto the adaptor but after clamping it down it was fine..

I was able to clamp mine down without any issues... just had to keep tightening it. The issues I do have with the SPM MAF adapter+RU-3530 combo are:
1) The MAF adapter ID is smaller than the MAF entrance by 5.4mm. If I get motivated, I'll hone it out, but was disappointed since there was so much hype about the SPM MAF adapter.
2) When the airfilter is all the way on the adapter, the adapter is sticking into the filter (blocking air flow, causing turbulence) by about 1/2". The 3530 just doesn't have that long of a flange. I'm going to remount it so the filter isn't all the way upto the MAF flange, but I'm sure it will be difficult since the filter "flange" is much larger than the MAF adapter OD.

In the past, I've seen many posts requesting the ID of the SPM MAF... and most people say not to worry and just get it. For the record... it's 78.6mm. The MAF entrance is 84mm, but is reduced to about 70mm at the sampling tube (haven't yet measured this part myself.. going off other posts). The MAF exit opens back up to 76.5mm.

These issues might not bug some people... I guess I'm just anal.

Yeah the more I had tightened it the more one half of the filter's flange wanted to push out from under the clamp. Morbid, I guess that is why anyone putting serious money into these cars get aftermarket MAF's(i.e. Demon, Warmonger, etc.) The way the whole intake fluctuates size.

yup... does your filter have a section for the clamp (groove) or is it all the same thickness? I think mine has a raised section at the end of the filter flange that kept the clamp from slipping off, but I'll have to check when I get home from work.

I looked at the kkm before I ordered the spm... but went with thw spm because of all the hype. Do you know the ID of the kkm?

The inlet does start out at ~3.25" (83-84mm) but it tapers down to its true throughput size in about 3/4" of length.

The MAF's true size is 2.76" (70mm) of which the center .8" is blocked.
That leaves about 55mm of flow area around the center bar post.

This 70mm center portion then tapers back out to 2.95" (75mm) at the outlet.

The SVT MAF screen has an inner size of only 3.1" which is why is does not work with MAF adapters (or MAFs) larger then stock sizing.

We use a tape similar to that for high voltage underground splices... it's Scotch 23 rubber tape.

It isn't really all that sticky, but damn, when you enlogate (stretch) it, it sure does stick to itself pretty permanently! I tried peeling it away once... NOPE! Had to pull out a knife and cut a slice all the way through it.

I wonder if I wrap some of that around the MAF adapter flange and then put the filter over it will the filter be pretty much a permanent resident to the MAF adapter? Guess if so can clean the filter with the adapter still attached. Just remove the whole thing to clean it.

i think that stuff is called "rescue tape"

my dad has some. it's crazy stuff. resists acids, other solutions, 500 deg.F, 600psi and some other crazy sh!t.

definitely worth a buy, whether or not you plan to use it right away.

I felt like bringing back an old thread. I was doing some searching and i am still confused about the fitment issue with the 3530 filter. I all ready own the filter but i am looking to buy the maf adapter. Should i buy the 85mm or the 70mm maf adapter? Like the one from this site.

Here's the one I bought and is actually made specifically for the contour and the ru3530... www.ssd4u.com

If you call or e-mail them and ask for just the adapter with no hardware or anything...it comes out to about 25 bucks. Otherwise, get the 85 mm, but i think even 85 mm is a little small.

I have the BAT or SP (same IIRC) MAF adapter with the 3530. They dont fit great but once you snug up the clamp it fits just fine.
