Firstly, the â??stock throttle body optimizationâ? instructions found on the mods page of this site could be substantially improved, more on that latter.

I did the following:

(1)half-shafted the SVT TB shaft by cutting the stock shaft
(2)machined the rear half shaft to a rounded 1/16
(3)countersunk the TB plate flush to the modified half shaft
(4)knife edged the TB plate
(5)knife edged the TB bore lip
(6)reworked all surfaces with 100, 400, and 2000 grit sandpaper
(7)cleaned all surfaces
(8)blended the screws into the plate and modified half shaft 100% flush

Although I was extremely skeptical, these are the results:

(1)Drastic increase in sensitivity on throttle tip-in
(2)Substantial increase in overall throttle response
(3)Very marginal (if any) increase at WOT
(4)Estimated marginal power gains at mid level RPM, but doubtful peak power increase (i.e. maybe some more power below the curve but likely not at peak)

It took about 6 hours to do a proper job. I was shocked at the results. The car feels very alive. I would recommend this mod.

Now back to the instructions. The SVT TB shaft needs to be cut and this important step is not detailed in the instructions. The SVT uses 10mm not 8mm bolts. A countersink bit should be used, not a drill bit.

I love it...

jimmy - what exactly on the SVT TB shaft needs to be "cut"? Would you happen to have any pictures? I am in the middle of a UIM LIM rebuild and trying to figure out if this mod is really worth it. Seems like it could be, but I'm afraid of bucking something up.

Would cutting be required for a STOCK TB optimization? Because if so, then I'll had to pick up the proper tools for that to happen.

Could I just file down these two threaded looking bolts sticking out of the TB shaft? Would this do any good?

Wouldn't hurt...but it's non-comparable to an actual opt. TB. Just do the works, or if you don't trust yourself, send it to Josh (pole120). He did mine and it looks great.

What I don't get is that my SE already has a cut throttle body shaft. Both of mine are like that. Why in the world would ford have gone mine to one that restricts more air flow?

Is that the TB of an SE (LS Mystique) or SVT? I guess I'll ask if cutting is required to optimize an SE or LS TB?

SVT (see my sig)

Does anyone know if this mod results in lower gas mileage?

You have to do the same thing to an se or svt. Only difference in the two throttle bodies is the bore.

As I just stated my tb is different besides the bore. I don't know if it is just 95's or what, but I know mine won't require cutting of the shaft.

Theoretically, "shouldn't" have any effect at all, except at WOT.

I got 27 Mpg on the highway after an intake claening and the PRT TB

Proper Something Technique?

Questions,

How do you 'machine' the rear half shaft?
and how do you 'knife-edge' the plate and bore lip?

Like I said, in theory, practice should follow theory, but in practice, this is not always the case.
