Ok, I had a Magnaflow hi-flow cat put on a while back ago. After it was installed, the exhuast was louder than before(Trubendz catback with Magnaflow and optimized y). I thought it was an exhaust leak and meant to get it checked out but I honestly got used to the sound and it slipped my mind for a bit. There doesn't seem to be a performance loss which is why I probably didn't make a big deal out of it. ANYWAY, my question is does a hi-flow cat make an exhaust louder or should I get it checked out for leaks? And while I'm posting, I might as well ask if replacing the small 2.25" piece of stock exhaust that is left between the cat and catback with a piece of 2.5" will make any, if small, performance gains?

Not if you still retain the y with the 2" pipes at the back....

Stock exhaust piping, Omptimized Y pipe and a Magnaflow high flow cat will produce a louder exhaust,
beacuse more air is going through the exhaust system.

Also it's possible that one of the welds didn't get sealed properly.

But that is a different part/issue...What does that have to do with the stock pipe I asked about?

But I don't have stock exhaust piping except one small little piece, but I see what you are saying. So basically the hi-flow cat will make the car louder, but I still may have a leak?

It has everything to do with it....detailed current exhaust setup please.

The detailed current exhaust setup is in my first post :Trubendz Catback with Magnaflow, Magnaflow cat, and optimized Y. Does that help?

You can change the 2.25" pipe for a 2.5" one, this with allow the air to flow more evenly and less restricted.
I'm not sure if this with be a huge gain in performance, but it will produce a slight increase in
the loudness of your exhaust.

On my setup I have gutted pre cats, y pipe un-optimized, 3" flex pipe, stepped down to 2.5" piping
to the tail pipe. Magnaflow high flow cat and 2 Magnaflow mufflers. This is a single exhaust.

I think I'll just take it to a shop and have them replace the one piece of pipe, and they can check for leaks while they're at it.

What the hell is an SP motorsports downpipe and what does that have to do with this thread? Not trying to be a dick but I'm a tad confused...

I didn't catch the Trubendz part, my fault for quickly reading....carry on.

I mentioned it because, since teh sp motorsports downpipe comes with a magnaflow High Flow Cat, It would tell a diff between a stock and after market cat. And also since it is a new downpipe and the tube doesn't wrap around and do a 180 degree bend it will be louder.

So i just wanted to reply to your statment does a high flow cat make the exhaust louder?

Possibly, but usually increasing the pipe diameter or reducing the amount of mufflers or swapping out the stock SVT mufflers for straight through versions does too.

Ok, gotcha now. And Stazi, thanks for the reply. The Trubendz only has one muffler anyway. Like I said, I'll go ahead and replace the pipe. Shouldn't be expensive, plus I'll just feel better, even if it doesn't help.
