I am pretty damn happy with my times. I went to Firebird Raceway here in PHX this evening. The elevation is about 1200 Ft >sea level, so I am rather proud. I do think some improvements can be made.

60' = 2.34
1/8 = 9.20
MPH = 80.23
1/4 = 14.063
MPH = 101.87

I know that some guys are in the upper/mid 13's but I am pretty happy for what I have done thus far.

Those are very respectable numbers.

I'm sure w/ a set of BFG drag radials or those Nitto drag tires your goals should be achievable, just be careful on the launch, you do have/and or getting a Quaife right

Nice time. With a little bit better launch, you should easily be in the 13's. I hope to be at the end of this season. Need a new motor mount before I try though

sweet! yeah with practice iam sure your times will drop alot.
Posted By: JonGordo8 Re: First time at the track with S/C - 03/07/03 02:58 PM
well 2.3 isnt a bad 60 time, but like everyone else said you will be in the 13's with some practice without adding any other mods.

Good job

I have a Quaife and CenterForce clutch. I did not come out of the box THAT hard though. I had better 60' times that night, but that was my best ET. I was racing a Really Heavily modded Civic SI HB (Gutted/15 lb boost), and I was a car lenght ahead of him, but I missed my 4th gear shift and coasted through the trap. He ran a 14.05 and I ended up with a 14.277. When I missed the shift, I didn't even try to jam it in, as I knew it was a sh!t run. I really feel, judging from his ET and Trap that I would have had a 13.99 or better. I had a 2.29 60' on that run.
Damn, nice numbers with a slow 60' and all. You can easily shave a tenth off the 60' time so 13's are just around the corner

Have you gotten the car dyno'ed?

a true testament to what a sc can do on our 2.5L . . .
you have a smaller pulley as well, right? So, you're getting about 270fwhp with like 10lbs boost? That's damn awesome at your elevation. . .

Anyone see his time at the 1/8th? Normally that would be about a 14.3 or so. That car must be hauling some SERIOUS tailpipe past half-track. Keep it up man.

Yup once that bad boy's got some solid traction that Sh*t is moving along. I'd really like to see a 104+mph pass though
Posted By: TheGSRGuy_dup2 Re: First time at the track with S/C - 03/08/03 03:48 AM
That 60ft time seems rather low for that kind of power. What suspension and tires are you riding on? And do you have motor mount inserts?
Posted By: PXRacing Re: First time at the track with S/C - 03/09/03 12:13 AM
probably the st200 struts alone are costing him about a tenth, probably more. Po-Jay you should consider investing in some Koni adjustables it'll allow you to keep the weight from transfering to the rear with that much more power and get more of the power to the ground where it belongs. I don't know what kind of traction issues you have, 'I only can Imagine,' but even on our low maintained bad traction track here in Hawaii, I've been able to pull off, I think it was 2 2.3 60ft. times.

Problem with a frontwheel drive car is it has to make up alot at midway track and to the line since it's tendency is prone to spinning tires, our platform dont help one bit too. If you haven't already, try gutting your whole back half of the car, that alone could help a bit, but that combined with a set of Koni's should do some wonders. I think with the power you're making you should have no problem running a 13.5 or better with slicks on a good track in optimum conditions and a trap speed of 104+.

will you be the first, as far as i know, recorded 103+trap speed in the 1/4mile

I didn't know that 103 was the record?

rt .077
60' 2.412
330 6.373
1/8 9.408
mph 82.06
1000 12.026
1/4 14.216
mph 103.72

1st gear popped out on me on the line so I stuffed it into second. I could have done a 13 easy. On the next run my clutch finally said good bye so I'll have to wait to go back. BTW that was on stock clutch, stock diff, stock struts, and stock springs. I have potential.

Nice. I'm impressed with the catch-up speed on that thing!

Get that clutch fixed and put a quaife in and you'll be smoking those vortech cars I think. Pojay, see ya pretty soon with my turbo'd 3L

Well then I guess it is 104!!! Keyser I thought yours was 102. Looks to be you pkup an additional 21.66 mph from 1/8 to line. Po-Jay is at 21.64mph. Seems to me you folks have similar machines though we haven't evened weighed in the weather/elevation/factors, and of course Keyser you was on a stock clutch, diff, struts and springs. My average gain with my N/A Svt from 1/8 to line is 21mph.

Those runs were on the same track the same night.

I am not a fan of Koni Adjustables. I have the Euro-Handling Kit- Sach's struts from BAT. I do not have the ST200's. Everyone that I know with Koni's has had a problem with sticky valves. They all ride on at least one strut that has become unadjustable. Expensive crap, IMHO.
I pulled a 2.29 60' once that night, but alas I missed the 3-4 shift and only ran a 14.227 coasting through the trap. My opponent who ran 14.05 was beaten badly until I missed the shift. I think that I had a 13.99 at least... Oh well. "The one that got away"...

In answer to the earlier question, yes, I have the smaller pulley and am running a full 10#PSI at 7600RPM's. I was probably at about 95.5Octane that evening too.

BTW- At sea level I am SURE that I would be at 13.90ET at least. It runs nice down low.

Interesting note of the Koni's!!! May have to reconsider my options. In any case the point made was that by stiffening up the rear to reduce weight transfer, the end result will be better off-the-line traction.

As far as racing at SeaLevel, even that can be greatly dependent upon factoring Humidity. You must realize that a motor thrives on air, the more air you take away from it, the less power it produces. In the case of Higher elevation it's pretty obvious. But Humidity can and will do the same thing. Humidity is basically a level of moisture in the airmass. Higher level of Humidity means a greater volume of water to air ratio, inturn less power. It stands to reason that unless the air at sea level has medium to minimum levels of moisture, you will still be affected by a decrease in performance. I guess if you live a MileHigh and experience Humidity in the 70-80% range, you're really pressed out of luck....

In my case it's simply a matter of higher humidity factored in with a crappy track and wind.

So how'd the second time go?!
