This will be a running account of the life and times of living with a 1998 Tropic Green Contour SE Sport w/ 2.5 and MTX with 135,000 on the clock.
A little back ground.
I bought the car for transportation in Oct. of 2004 because my 1991 Dakota was spending more time in the transmission shop than it was on the road. The second day I drove it the water pump died, as I've come to find out this is not uncommon. So now it has the steel impeller water pump. The next thing that was done was the install of the right spark plugs(Motor Craft) and a set of Ford Motor Sports 9mm wires (Red). For several months the car ran fine and I had no problems with it, except that the front window cracked as I was leaving work one cold January night. Next to get replaced was the cabin filter. Well in June I believe it was I started getting a clunking noise when I shifted and the shifter itself was binding up and felt stiff. Took it to a shop and was told that it was the clutch, and it was going to be about $1,400 to fix it. I was not going to spend that much on the car so I put it up for sale. Well the only buyers I got were from overseas and all scams (About 15 in all). So the car sat most of the summer. I finally talked to a friend of mine that works at a garage, he drove it and told me it was not the clutch but the motor mounts. So I bought a SVT front mount with inserts from BAT., and a rear SVT mount from the local Ford dealer. Took me about 1.5 hours to change them out. What a difference that made. No more clunking and the shifter is as smooth as glass.
If I ever figure out how to post pics I will.

MaddMike1 Clean that sucker
Email this entry | Print this entry Apr 24 2006, 09:19 PM
Well I decided to clean the UIM, LIM, MAF and TB since I wanted to change the front motor mount and the P/S pump any way I figured I would make a weekend of it(turned into a week LOL). Well I broke an EGR bolt(the one closest to the TB and in the process of getting it out broke the manifold)its fixed and does not leak. The two lines on top of the UIM broke getting them out(who ever worked on the car before epoxied them in) so it was call Ford again and wait for parts. The connectors that hold the lines in the UIM is called a Connector p# F5RZ-2A411-A $10.95. These things are a pain to get out, I used a 6in drift punch through the TB opening and a ball peen to drive them out. The line to the Brake Power Booster is F5RZ-2420-AE $23.53, The second line is called a vacuum manifold F6RZ-9E498-AD $34.07, The EGR bolts are p#W701625-S431 $7.82 pack of 2. I also got the IAC gasket from Ford p#E83Z-9F670-A $1.05. The Upper and Lower manifold, TB and EGR I got from Fel-Pro.
All the intake bolts are 8mm, TB and P/S pump 10mm, pressure line to P/S 18mm, Motor mount upper bracket 4 nuts 18mm, mount top bolt 18mm, mount to fender well three bolts 15mm.
It took me 15 cans of Berrymans to clean everything(I would take them to a shop for cleaning next time).
The car runs better and the butt Dyno says it makes more power but I will see for sure after ther real dyno run tomorrow.

To what do you base your statement that I'm a liar?? Were you at the Dyno? No you were not. Have you even seen my car in person? No you have not. Have you ever had your CSTV on a Dyno? If you have I can find no evidence of it.
Disprove my Dyno information if you can. In fact I say put your money were your mouth is. You come to Akron pay for the Dyno time and I will put my car on it and pull the same numbers as the last time. On top of that I will lay $1K on the bench at the Dyno, if the car does not meet or better the previous numbers you get the $1K, if it does what I claim it can do you pay me $1K and go home having learned the lesson : That if YOU can't run with the Big Dogs don't get off the Porch.
As for it not having a Tune it does, an SVT Tune.
The Cat is not stock for this car, it was made to flow for a V-8 5.7L to be exact.
The muffler is not a stock type muffler any more than a Flow Master is, if you want to see one go to
Supremeperformance.com and look under Vortex V-Baffle. By the way this muffler works very well with the exhaust physics of the 2.5.
I can tell that you have not been around real men that modify automobiles much, if you had you would know that you do not make claims that you can not back up. If you can not back up your mouth you lose money, maybe your car or maybe a few teeth. I on the other hand can back up everything I have said, I can back it up with the car, with the documented information and I can back it up with money.

Don't get mad cause your car didn;t gain 14whp and people think your a liar.
Answer me this, what dignifies being a man??? Please elaborate why i am not, cause i do not modify cars. om so you know my life.
Lmao you must be very immature to target my life. Lets stick to the subject we are talking about your car . I called you a liar about your dyno. If you want to insult me, take it to the pms before this gets closed, or are you a rebel and don't apprechiate rules??
I called you out on your car. You must be too young to reliaze you are not talking your car. You are targeting my life. Which shows your age my friend very well. I have nothing to say about my life too you, casue it's not about my life .
We on ceg have seen many like you say how you built 1000+hp cars and you are the best mechanic in the world bla bla bla... You need to grow up.
Sorry your 14whp exhuast is B.S

Oh for the love of what ever you believe in, Its not just a Cat Back. Read the info please, enough is enough the complete exhaust was replaced, the Y-pipe is gone, the cat has been changed, the pipe size has been increased, the muffler has been changed plus the routing has been changed.
Has anyone else on this board done a testing regiment like this? Modify then test, do the next mod then test? Not that I have seen. I have seen I did this and this and this and this and then I tested. How do you know exactly which mod did what. If someone else has done a mod by mod test series please tell me so I can look at it and compare results.

Sorry man you don't get it the dyno has to be messed up. I have been saying that since day one. It is inaccurate.
Make a post, honestly about your mods and then ask them if you put ca catback on will i gain 14hp at the wheels.
Ask the ceg community and see what they answer you with. See not only from my opinion but everyones elses. The people will answer this question if you would set it up.
If you want too dare, Post this simple question in a thread!!!

It would be a useless thread as no one has ever put an SVT ECM in an SE before and moded on top of that base configuration before. At least not that I can find doing a search.

The mods are SVT ECM, 19lb. SVT injectors, and the exhaust which consists of 2" pipes down from the manifolds into a 2" dual inlet- 2 1/2" single outlet Arvin/Supreme/Maramont Cat (the cat is a universal rated up to a 5.7L engine), the bank #1 downstream O2 is mounted into the top of the cat in the supplied bung. The muffler which is a Vortex V/Baffle 2.5 in-2.5 out is mounted directly to the cat. The rest of the system is 2.5" pipe that follows the stock routing until it goes around the fuel tank. Instead of putting all the 90's in it to come out in the stock location we used bends of no more that about 35 to 40 degrees to bring it out to exit on the passanger side. The car also has FR 9mm wires and Champion Double Plat plugs and a K&N drop in. Oh and least I forget the Ram Air.
I also have Full Syn oil:5W20 Valvoline in the motor, Syn Power P/S fluid and Syn Power tranny fluid also.

I am perma banned from that site. The [censored] guy who started it is a [censored] moron and needs to get a [censored] life. I cannot believe that I leave the women and my friends at the bar to drunken post on this forum that is going down the tubes faster than FCO, which by he way is a freaking JOKE! The only knowledge base there is Terry. Buckeye or whomever is a joke.
OMFG that place is full of the guys that cannot begin to understand autos...
I remember the only real post I was ever apart of on there had to do with some guy whose wheel was seized to the hub and he couldn't figrue out how to get it off...
The knowledge base for our cars is on its way out of here...good luck for all u cheap bastards.
AND BTW changing anything on your car without tuning it to compensate is retarded. The tolerances you are dealing with in these newer cars are so tight it isn't even funny. I feel like a complete hack for modding my car without tuning it every step of the way.
But hey you can be cheap and don't need any brand name stuff...Maddmike post a damn link that works on THIS SITE.

To see what the front at the manifolds looks like go to BAT Inc, web site and look at their Y-pipe, mine is very much like it. They claim 8-10 HP increase with just the Y-pipe. With the right muffler and the different routing of the exhaust 4hp more on top of that is not an unreasonable gain. Also now that the exhaust is more open the SVT computers tune maybe working better.
