I dyno at 177hp/155tq at SZ06 (which I thought was pretty decent)... A year ago I run a 15.4 1/4 mile. I go to the track this weekend with new mods including headers, opt'ed Y pipe, koni sport suspension, RSTB, subframe connectors... I was hoping for a 14.999, but Nooo0o0oooooooooo!!! I'm stuck with a consistent 15.2x... After 3 or 4 15.2x's I became frustrated and the times started dropping 15.3x... 15.4x, then I called it a day. I want to be able to get into the 14's N/A and without a 3L, and I've done just about every supporting mod. What can I do to obtain a 14.999 or better?

Rant off...

Light wheels that are smaller. Better tires.

What tires are you running?

Whats your launch procedure and 60' times?

Launched at about 2500 rpm and my 60 footers were pretty consistent at 2.2x

Oh and mark, shut up

what were your short times? trap speed? weather? same track? Those things you need to take in to account first. Maybe its the driver's lack of experience. The other thing to remember is that these cars do not respond to HP mods well, its all small things, which add up. MPH reflects the HP moreso than the et.
Posted By: RawBurt Re: Rant on - 06/12/06 03:12 PM

trap speed? 81 to 83 mph
weather? 70 degrees
same track? Yes
Posted By: RTStabler51_dup1 Re: Rant on - 06/12/06 03:18 PM
I hope you mean 91-93, if it was 81-83 you have bigger issues.

Good point...

I'ld own you Mark

I'm going again next week...i'm out for 14.8

Robert...once you get a propper launch down you're times will improve. The 2.5 has so little torque down low, i find the key is to keep the rpms above 3800 at ALL times....once the secondaries close, you're done for.

Have Josh (pole120) drive your car.

Then my suggestion to you is practice.

Also put your stock wheels back on.

I think we found out at SZ who owned who.

Oh, and 2.13 60's! When you beat that on street tires, we'll talk.

so.. let me get this straight...

you add headers and a y-pipe, then add weight to your vehicle, and expect to lose 1/2 a second in the 1/4 mile?

not likely to happen on most cars... especially the CSVT.

I've already pulled a 2.14 60 on my 17 inch rock hard NANKANG tires....but my 2.5 doesn't have the torque your 3L does to keep it going. Remember, i was only 2 thenths behined you at the hilbilly track

2.14 > 2.13

And you were that close at that track, because one of us had enough power to break traction in more than one gear.

I've got a 5 week break from school, so I might head down to the track one of these Wednesday nights after work.

I thought I read in a thread somewhere that someone called tirerack and they said the 98+ 8spoke 15" SE wheels were about 22.5lbs, that doesn't seem very light to me...

I don't think that's right The 15's are lighter than my EO's for sure

E0 SVT (Cosworth): 20.5

Just noticed...

Rawbert's SVT with tons of mods since SZ05: 15.2x
My SE i never beat him in last year at SZ05 before those mods: 15.16
Posted By: TGO Re: Rant on - 06/13/06 10:35 PM
those are very respectable numbers for your car. Last na 2.5 i saw run 14.xx was demon, and his car had 190 something hp at the wheels, and he had alot of work done to it, which was done mostly by himself iirc.

Those are heavy wheels! My stock mystique wheels weigh ~35lbs with a tire. According to the specs the tires are 21 each... So about 14-15lbs each... These are the 6-spoke ones that came on the later mystiques... (98+)

thread mentioning 15" 8 spoke weight

I purchased ASA JS1 16x7 wheels, which weigh 18 pounds.

Hope this helps.

not saying its true or not, just the only thing I found regarding it.
