Since this forum "sucks" so bad here is a bench racing question. My friend is willing to bet me $500 that his g/f's 95 Grand Prix 3.lL will beat my V6 Contour. Now, I raced the car before when the girl was driving and beat it by half a car length or so but she says she wasn't really trying (i don't believe that). Neway, what do you guys think? The car has aver 200,000 miles on it but I think the engine and tranny were replaced at 100,000 maybe. Same engine and all. Let me know.

Thats kind of a tuffy. The trannie in the GP probably would shift at better points then in the ATX duratec. Ive been in an ATX Duratec mystique, they pull hard in first gear, but then in 2nd they shift prematurely. I say you have the upper hand though, as the GM 3.1L Doesnt have much to speak for it. As long as you remove you're "oversized system" I think you will be fine.

Well I think you should be able to take it out. I beat my wifes 2002 grand am gt ram air by almost a whole cars length!! If I can beat that car you can take the grand prix I am sure. The grand prix's dont pull that hard upstairs. Now You better be consistant though or there is a chance he may take you. I got a 5 speed in my tour and she took the jump everytime but 2-3 gear would put me out front everytime!! I love these cars lol. Oh where in MN are you from?? I am in MN as well.

Thanks for the advice guys. I may have forgot to mention that my car is an ATX.

I live in Brainerd, MN ellmers, how bout you?
Posted By: starjammir Re: 95 Grand Prix vs. 95 Contour - 01/11/06 07:46 PM
I dunno man...is the GP a gt or not? I think the GP would walk you(me too)
EDIT: If your going to race on a "track" make sure you gut your car, back seat, system, spare tire and anything you can shave to get less weight. Also make sure your gas tank is almost empty...between a full tank and 1 gal there is I believe a 70lb difference (dont quote me). Thats a lot of extra weight...just my

No its not a GT I wanna say...GXE or something weird like that.
Posted By: starjammir Re: 95 Grand Prix vs. 95 Contour - 01/11/06 07:51 PM
A GXP, GTP, GT, or base model
EDIT....NVM the GXP was not around and the GTP has a 3.8 as does the GT

I am from Crystal MN on the border of Minneapolis. I dunno. The grand prix's are heavy as well. but it does depend on the model as well. GTP forget it your done lol. My wifes car has more power and torque than my 95 contour but I still smoked her lol. 4 times in a row. But now I need a new engine cause mine smoked in the last race lol. Man there are some nice straights up there in Brainerd lol. Including the track.

Been there won that! (in my atx!)

It wasnt a grand prix, but it was a grand am. I'm sure the GP's weigh more. From a stop or even from a dig at 30(where it downshifts to 3k) the tour always pulled away from the grand am. If you loose this, then

I could not agree more lol.

Hows your maintenance doing? a dirty UIM/LIM could very easliy give the race to the Prix. Just a thought. And I think that you could be able to get him, but not by much. 160 hp/185 tq the outputs are relativley close although that dosn't always tell very much in terms of performance.

My friend has a Lumina with the 3100 in it (I suppose it's the series II engine or something...).

Just being a passenger, I do have to say that at low speeds, his car pulls hard. Might not have been as hard as my SVT, but I was suprised. My old 2.8L Grand Prix was a dog... but that was also 130hp in a same size vehicle.

Or maybe it was the low altitude. My SVT pulls like crazy when the secondaries open in a place like Iowa (it was so-so up in Montana).
Posted By: G Stone Re: 95 Grand Prix vs. 95 Contour - 01/12/06 01:21 AM
Don't know bout my UIM or LIM, will have to check that out. The 3.1 GP raced a 3.8 GP and for some reason this same friend said, "oh, I think it could beat it." Yea, right, that 3.8 is one of the fastest engines I have seen or the 3.1 is really an old dog. I think my car could take it with some good brake tourqing. I don't think I'm going to bet on the race though. I treasure my money too much.

The Brainerd track is a really fun place to be in the summer time. I remember the first time I went there and it was packed. And speaking of GP's there was what musta been a 2000? Red GP GTP 2 door. Oh my, the entire engine bay was chrome plated or something. There was a little computer built below the radio and the battery was relocated to the trunk. Oh, and it was a chick. Thats hot!

If you want I can race my brother's 3.1L grand am against my contour and tell you the outcome. Your duratec should be about a second quicker in the 1/4 than my car. I'd use the escort which should be only slightly quicker than your car, but gas prices are too high and it's on empty.

Or while he is at it he can race against my freinds mustangs...one with a 351 clealand and another with a windser in it.

In 1995 all Grand Prix still wore a 60-degree V6. SE & GT made do with the 3.1 Litre and GTP sported the Twin Dual Cam 3.4 Litre.

It wasn't till '97 with the W-body redesign that the 3.8 NA and 3.8 blower showed up as an upgrade to the SE's 3.1

Never heard of either, but I've heard of the Cleveland and the Windsor.

Or my uncle's brother's friend's dog's breeder's sister's cousin who I heard has Countach that was owned by Jay Leno who bought it from Nicohlas Cage who shipped it over from Italy. Now that would be a good race!

There is a reason why I suck at spelling, I just haven't found it yet! Seriously, I could be one of the worst spellers of all time.

read more books

That would be cool, please do that. Through a 500 lb weight set in the trunk for good measure. THen it would mimick my system. The more I think about I don't even half to race cause you own my car..only with a zetec. Seriously, that would be cool if you would do that.

Do you seriously think that? So the way to practice to be a better speller is to read? Hmmmmmm. Ever stop to think that people learn things differently then other? I read more than enough, always have, but I still can't spell worth crap. You can paint like Di Vincci just because you saw his paintings? Don't think so.

And it wasn't the dog breaders, it was a cat breaders....geez.

Umm... How can you say that reading doesn't help spelling?!?! You read a book, see a word, and say to yourself, "I never knew this word was spelled like this," and sometimes you remember.

No, but I bet if you read a book about him you'd learn to spell his name right

Let me see, now we are arguing whether reading books improves your spelling skills in the dyno and drag section of a car forum. you guys sometimes crack me up. maybe we should start a debate section just for people who like to argue.

Is it this GP?:

Or this GP?:

Posted By: G Stone Re: 95 Grand Prix vs. 95 Contour - 01/14/06 02:41 AM
The first one, only white. It is an "SE" Grand Prix I found out. I read my friend and his g/f this post and she started getting mad. "Why do these people think Contour's are so cool? They sure aren't faced. THis is [censored]." I guess there were to many votes for me. I am really looking forward to it now.

Your Pick
95 Contour
95 Grand Prix

Hey, there has been no action on this forum for awhile and people were starting to complain. And I think I have to drive a Honda to be in the Special Olympics.
