With that being said, here are a couple of my slips. Help me out, I know I should be doing better then this.

#31 was my absolute first run ever at the track. BTW I am car number 216.

Posted By: starjammir Re: Track let down (slips inside) - 11/01/05 01:56 PM
IM 215....dang burt I had a faster 1/4 MPH than you did...WTH?
Posted By: Stazi Re: Track let down (slips inside) - 11/01/05 01:57 PM
Why are you're 1/4mi MPH's so damn low on the run 189 and 87?

Are you lifting prior to the end? That's crazy slow.
Posted By: RawBurt Re: Track let down (slips inside) - 11/01/05 01:58 PM
I have no clue why a couple of my 1/4 MPH recordings were off...
Posted By: KingpinSVT Re: Track let down (slips inside) - 11/01/05 02:08 PM
Those MPH readings have to be wrong. I was running in the 80+ mph range stock and at 5600ft elevation, and thats with a 2 second slower run
Posted By: Y2KSVT Re: Track let down (slips inside) - 11/01/05 02:22 PM
Something is definitely up. Looks like you were braking before you crossed the line. Your short times aren't too bad for someone that doesn't go to the track very often. If you can cut consistent 2.2X 60's, you should be in good shape at the end of the track. But 78 & 79MPH(10 & 11MPH slower than your best MPH) are SLOW! You should be around 90-92 every run.

Mark
Posted By: RTStabler51_dup1 Re: Track let down (slips inside) - 11/01/05 02:25 PM
Minus, the MPH, I don't think those times are bad considering you don't have any true HP mods and you are running 18" wheels.
Posted By: Stazi Re: Track let down (slips inside) - 11/01/05 02:54 PM
Looks like he was prematurely letting off the gas or braking prior to cutting the beam. Don't lift of till you complete a "2 APPLE" count after you "think" you crossed the line.
Posted By: RawBurt Re: Track let down (slips inside) - 11/01/05 02:57 PM
So, assuming that I am letting off too early... Does this mean I'd run a much better time?
Posted By: Y2KSVT Re: Track let down (slips inside) - 11/01/05 03:02 PM
You'd probably be in the 15.3 range, but your MPH will be a consistent ~90MPH.

Maybe another trip to the strip will need to be in store!
Posted By: Y2KSVT Re: Track let down (slips inside) - 11/01/05 03:10 PM
How long are they running up there? Our last test & tune night was LAST Wednesday. I'd think you guys would have stopped running before us, as Michigan tends to get colder, a few weeks to a month earlier than Indiana. But if you can make it back to the track, definitely do! Like Ryan said, you aren't too far off of what you should be running, since you don't have a whole lot of HP mods.

Maybe even a 15.1/15.2

I'm amazed you didn't pickup that SNAFU at the track when looking at your slips.

Mark, its open Nov-Dec weather permitting.

I suppose I could see that. The only timeslip up there that looks like a full run was the 15.6 @ 90mph. If his 2.4 60' time would have been the 2.2 in his first run, he could have been in the 15.2 range with similar shifts.

How much do those 18's weigh? Could be a big deal right there. You do have some exhaust work.... I would expect low 15's. Still have your stock wheels?
Posted By: Klasse Act Re: Track let down (slips inside) - 11/01/05 05:27 PM
In your second time slip, the one where you race car #221, you ran a 15.6 @90 mph, thats pretty much right on. The guy next to you on that one w/ a 14.3 @101 should be running almost a second faster with that mph, so don't be too upset

Umm... colder is better, as long as it isn't snowing.

Back in the day i've hit like a 15.1 there at 90-91mph at that track.

Thats embaressing rawbutt!

Just soo you know i ran a 15.5 at 93mph with only 5 plugs firing at lapeer and Da barge ran a 15.1!!!!
Posted By: JustinCSVT Re: Track let down (slips inside) - 11/02/05 01:15 AM
What suspension are you running? Weight transfer plays a big part in drag racing. My SVT used to go nose straight into the air when I lanched it which was not good for the track times.

Not necessarily. Not sure if you've ever tried launching a car with any power at all, when the weather is near freezing? You get zero traction. Sure, that cold air is awesome for highway blasts, but say goodbye to your short times. There's also a good chance of losing control on a 1-2 shift in a RWD vehicle if you don't know what you're doing.

oh.... so this is referring to a car you no longer own then.

well, in that case, i have the fastest car here.

Notice he said fastest CAR here. And you keep talking about how gay drag racing is, yet you turn around and refer to 1/4 mile times. Excuses are gayer than AIDS.

hmmm... how about ten years ago. with both front wheels off the ground for the first 60 feet.

and yes, i said car. if you want to compare previously owned streetbikes, i'll be happy to put my old R1 (or my full yoshimura race gsxr-750 for that matter) up against your tiddler 600 ANY day.

either go race robert at the track, or STFU.

ug, not the .5 sec claim again!
Posted By: KingpinSVT Re: Track let down (slips inside) - 11/03/05 08:06 PM
I would think most of the gains on the track would be from the benefit of having a raised redline.
Posted By: Y2KSVT Re: Track let down (slips inside) - 11/03/05 08:08 PM
That's right. It should help keep some people from having to shift into 4th gear at the end of the track.

But even with a 10HP gain, you can't expect .5 at the end of the track.

Mark
Posted By: ryanblacksvt Re: Track let down (slips inside) - 11/03/05 08:40 PM
says who? and yes the raised redline helps alot rather than the rev limiter kicking in but also the datalogging feature and getting the a/f correct.

Says logic. That would be 1/10th of a second for every 2 HP! Granted with slow cars like Contours, it takes less HP gains to run better 1/4 mile times, but 2HP will not equal 1/10th in the 1/4 mile on any car. If by that nature, I would be deep into the 13's, as I've got about 40hp over stock.

40hp = 20/10ths

20/10ths = 2 seconds

15.3 - 2 seconds = 13.3

Damn I suck at driving. I can only pull off a 14.4

Not sure what that has to do with anything. If nothing else I'd say that says a little bit about my driving, since there are a few 3L's making more than the 196fwhp that I was making at the time of those runs, and only doing 14.6 and 14.7. I've got an extra 10HP and 5TQ on top of my lightweight 17"s and sticky tires that I'd like to take back to the track. I'll be shooting for a 14.2.

That is very similar to what I was running with my car when I first put the 3L together. I also was making about 196-198 when I had stock SVT intake and exhaust on it.
I was turning 14.6-14.8. I wasn't that good of a driver then either as some of them were in the 15s
Better now but still need some work at driving.
