These types of games tend to spark some interest around here and tend to last for quite a while.
The rules are simple..
Find a photo of a car and crop a section of the photo out to display.. CEG'rs will then try to guess what the vehicle is..
I know some people on here will be able to make this difficult yet fun.
The person who correctly guesses the vehicle will then be responsable for posting the next photo and keeping the game going.
1) Please no one of a kind prototypes that nobody will have a chance at guessing.
2) If it gets difficult hits can be used such as: (this car was produced between 1992 and 1996). Or more of the original photo can be revealed, or another angle of a part of the vehicle may be revealed.
3) questions about the vehicle can be asked and answered.
4) vehicles can be anything from exotics, to classics, to everyday vehicles.
Here is an example:
After a few short guesses somebody would have correctly said "the Koenigsegg CCR"
which would be correct and the rest of the photo will be revealed.
Everybody ready to go?
Heres the first vehicle! I'll keep it fairly simple to get the game going.. GOOD LUCK!!!

I'll add another rule to the game for a little twist:
5) Cars can be used more than once.. just because it has been used already doesn't mean its off limits.
But damn we need to make it a little more difficult.
there should be enough styling clues to get this one
me thinks I picked a good one . . .
Its a 2+2 so it may be a bit harder to ID
Fiat 124 Sport Coupe?? the lip around the back end looks similar to late 60's early 70's Fiat.. let me know if I'm barking up a completely wrong tree here.
It Looks Like An Early Skyline. About a '70 Model Or So.

Oh damn, a good similarity, and I do believe you are correct. I just saw the cobra jet and thought, hey, it's gotta be a stang! And to be fair, I think those Torino's had a stock defroster vent on the hood, which that one seems to have smoothed over. What other power plants did Torino's receive?
Everything from the 200 six to the 428CJ. If memory serves me correctly, there may even been a few with the Boss 429.
Isn't the person who guessed it, supposed to chop a picture to guess next? Anyways...

You're correct! (I'm a little late getting back). It's a 1971 Torino Cobra. '71 Cobras have the body-color strip in the middle of the blacked-out hood and no cowl vent.

Thanks for the info, Martin! And that Torino..
Is that yours, or just someones you know of? Torino's are perfect right now, classic styling, but not enough of a fad to become overpriced like the Mustang/Camaro/Challenger resto projects. And let's get the game right guys! You answer correctly, you post the next one. You don't just throw in here and think you can box with Ali.

Ya, I don't know what you guys are seeing, but that's the same spitting image of a 1958 Chevy Impala, that was posted earlier.

Could it be a '57 Silver Hawk?
Golden Hawk
Aren't all those front ends identical? (Golden Hawk, Silver Hawk, Power Hawk) I likey this thread! Learning quite a bit.

Thats why I made it a rule.. If I could edit it I would make it bold, last thing we need is 3 different cars up at once.. I knew this kind of post/game would spark interest around here, I wonder how long it will get..
so lets stick to the simple rules and I think we'll have an interesting game that will go on for quite some time..
And if somebody Guesses correctly and doesnt have a picture ready to post.. Its great if you let everyone know and allow somebody else to post in your place.
Allright, no bites yet. I'll give ya another clue.
ill admit its not my area of forte - but im looking
Close, but not quite. Keep researching. There's a VERY large clue in the first pic for the year, and a larger clue in the second pic for the specific model.
am I headed in the right direction?
Keep going. Model correct, year wrong. Again, take a look at the first pic.

Close enough, that's it! The 1934 was the only year for the split bumper. The V-16 clue was given by the longer chassis and fenders, visavis the fender light on the fender.

both wrong - scream when you want more clues
AAAAAHHHH! There. More clues please.
I'll do for some clues. I'm guessing it's mid-70's vintage, but I just can't seem to pin down anything else. Could be a weird Ferrari, could be some type of Toyota, or might as well be a Lotus.
Originally posted by Horse:

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I remember seeing this car in a UK magazine a few years back (Classic & Sports Car or Classic Motorsports--whichever it is, I don't have that issue anymore). It was some sort of race/rally prototype in the late '60s. If I remember correctly, I think it has Cortina taillights.
very close - and IIRC it DOES have cortina tails
in a stretch you could say they were conceptually related.
but about 12 years later

Is
This American Or European??? We Notice There
Is No Hood Line, Which Makes Me Think It Is A Factory Add On Nose Like The Superbird.
Or
is This The Rear Of The Vehicle, Even Though That Looks Like A Sealed Halogen Beam Light Fixture (Clear).
The Closest I've Came To A Guess Is Somewhere In The Opel Range Of Vehicles. Am I Close??
It is European. And the visible light is a driving light, not the headlight.
A couple more guesses and I'll post another clue pic.
I've got nothing, I need a hint.
This is the nose, and it is stock from the factory. No special edition. As I said, the light is a driving light, not the headlight. It is a European car, and they were imported to the U.S.
Here's clue #2. It's a nice body line down the drivers door.
I was thinking some kind of Maserati, but clue 2 doesn't look much like a Maserati.......Sheesh....more clues, please.

yeah looks like a GT model with the chrome front grille

i was thinking that at first, but it doesnt look the whole grill is chrome.
just the primary "bars"
It's a 66 GTA. Which was my second car that I purchased when I was almost 18, in 1969. Mine was Yellow with black stripes and also had the Cragar SS rims. It came with a High Output 390 (same specs as the 428CJ with less displacement, it's predicessor) C-6 auto and a Ford 9" with 3.70 Locker rear.

Well, it's still the ugliest, but I have better respect for it now.

next (maybe too easy):

Possibly a 74 GTO (Ventura)?
68 Pontiac Firebird. That or a GTO of the same year. I can't think of too many others w/ a hood tack.

well since someone backed me up on that, i'll go ahead and post the next one since i wont be back to the computer for about 3 hours.
That curve reminds me of a GenIII RX-7. Maybe a 93? But the intake scoop doesn't look quite right.
Is that a functional scoop?

What split? I don't see any split.
For some reason I want to say this is a Gennetta. Even though it's not.

the trim around the rear window curvs up as it approaches the right side of the crop which appears to be the middle of the rear window
i'm out of guesses... any more clues?
Way past time for another clue.
I'm assuming thats an intake in the top of the pic. So is this a Mid-engine car?
maybe an audi of some sort. im guessing its a LeMans type car

I'm with you, but it doesn't LOOK like an intake, it's kinda shaped wierd for that. I know....it's the Batmobile, in optional coral blue metallic,LOL.

Agreed on the LeMans. That little "intake" screams aerodynamic rear mirror to me. As well as the slant of the window and "hood" says a single seater, rear engined car. I don't know LeMans cars whatsoever, they all look the same to me, so I couldn't begin to start guessing as to what it is. Just an observation others might not be seeing, but still could be wrong.

seriously, how are you guys able to guess these cars? there is no way that you have ever even seen pics of all these.
TVR it is!
One of the best sounding tuned V8's i've ever heard. Serious punch you in the chest, not ground shaking Woodward iron and not high strung Italian. Just throaty, snarling, punch! The lump is sourced from Rover which I find a bit funny, but TVR puts a fair bit into making it their own.

I havent found any buicks that match it in the 60's
Agreed Horse, once I actually went and looked at a few pictures, and didn't just go off memory, I realized the plastic front facing piece is actually a chrome "bullet" type thing, and is MUCH larger than the plastic on that car. That leaves me with nothing! I may not know much for this game, but it sure is fun to watch! That said, somebody guess this car!

they used the reg I4 - the Elise GT1 is a converted Esprit GT1 to make it up to new regs.

you wanna Bet
My Dad worked for Lotus Race team in 1997 and did all the Chassis work on the Elise GT1 which used a lenghtened Elise Chassis to accomadate the Esprit V8 which they Couldn't use due to Homoligation reasons they had to Fit a Chevvy Short block V8 N/A
i've got a Few pics on this puter of them being Built aswell as a whole Folder of others taken at the Various Circuits
the I4 your Refering to is the Rover K-series engine fitted to standard Elise Road cars of which there are thousands and the Lotus Excige which is a hard top elise

wrong era, country, engine configuration, maker - but other than that - YES!
It looks like a Pinninfarina body. My initial thought was Maserati A6GCS, but the back window is wrong, as is the fender vent.
Also has some Ghia flavor to it.
I think it's a Zagato in some form or another. Aston comes to mind, but it's not English...
just block out everything but the hood and front end and it kinda looks like a 69 Camaro (i know that its not THAT car)
But yea, i dont think its english either, to many curves)

I had originally planned to do a taillight shot, just to confuse some people, but I couldn't find a good one (RS200 and Ford Sierra use the same taillights)

no - it cant be the 166 - the grill "mouth" isnt shaped correctly - but good guess
Ferrari 250 SWB, MM or California Spyder
1960-62 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta
thats a damn good one carpe . . .
I am totally confused
Ginetta?
your all wrong so far.. it has a very similar body style/shape as a cobra.. but were working on a different continent here..
Think Mediterranean
ok... think Italy
But it is not a Ferarri
How about a Lambo, I think it was the 250GT or something like that?
still wrong on the manufacturer here's a BIG clue..
correct it is a maserati, no it is not a 3500gt

My next clue was going to be the side pipes.. which would probably confuse even more people.. It was hard to find a good pic of the car, that's what sucked so much about it.. The original pic I chose actually had a big sign infront of the car telling what it was so I couldn't do much with it. Thats when I found the second photo and started using that one.

I think it was the Ferrari 250TR from the mid-late 50's but this maserati looks much closer to the AC cobra than the Ferrari.

It looks so tiny, kinda like an old mini, but I know that's not it.
your right, not a mini, its actually American.. it was a short lived post WWII car company.

Okay, here's another:
Gosh, so close. Year is alright (I was actually looking for 1979, but the car was around the previous year also), and the car is based on the Torino (which by the way, ended production in 1976). What is it?
Yep, I guess it was too easy.
1979 LTD II
Alright...
First clue.....NOT the Batmobile!!
Oh, yeh....I'll be on airplanes all day tomorrow, so I won't be able to post any additional clues until evening. So here's another
1947 Bently Franay Cabriolet MK VI
honestly, the only reason I knew it was because I almost used it earlier in the game.. I came across some pics of it while looking for a different car..
This one is model/year specific. but there should be enough clues here to get it fairly easily.
Good call on the Bentley....
Yours looks like a Stingray of some sort...'66 maybe...some kind of custom job...
Oh yeh...My day of flying is done.....

you were much closer on your first guess.. But you got closer on the year.
here's a big hint.. this version was only produced in two different years.. but the time between those productions was 33 years..
'63 Corvette Grand Sport?
Winner! You can also get dealer mod'd "clone" GS C6, kind of along the lines of what a Yenko Camaro was in the late 60's
Alright, next up;

EDIT: Grrrr why do images NEVER work for me? I guess you'll just have to click the link.
can't use a bitmap. needs to be a jpeg or gif. as for the car... ummm... no idea... but it looks like a lotus...
Not a Lotus, but it is European. And I see, too bad I don't have PS on this computer and had to use the crappiest program evAr, MS Paint.

I thought some of the GT-40's used 7.0L engines.. well at least we can tell its an endurance race car.
Here's another.. the number is part of the answer..
Here 'tis:
1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona 427 Super Coupe
I remember reading about this car in Super Ford magazine some years ago.
By the way, if I'm correct, someone can go ahead and post a picture.
Ive got one that will put a spin on this game.. let me get it loaded quick.
That's the car.. looks like it is your turn..
damnit,, photobucket keeps resizing my uploads to thumbnails for no reason.. but here was my plan.. I was going to post a photo of an everyday car.. but one that had been in a really bad accident with only a few clues remaining as to what it is.. If anybody else wants to put this spin on the game go ahead..
Try Imageshack.....
Imageshack
That was easy enough thanks.. ok, heres the next one then I guess.
there is a very distinctive hint in this photo
yeah the rim does look like that of a delorean.
If it is a DeLorean, I am not seeing a flux capacitor anywhere..
That's a DeLorean hands down.
ill back him on this one -
that is a PRV V6 engine and a delorean wheel -
post up my son and keep this going

Airflow it is.. Chrysler Style
haha...that's the third time the Airflow has been in the game.
Really? I must have overlooked a page or two in the past 98..
Here's one for you...
Wheels look like a VW pickup, but the front looks different.
is it an old mack delivery truck?
oh nooow i can see it...im lost
OK.. here is the entire vehicle.. no exactly a give-away. One hint.. the shape of the front logo is part of the company name.
Logo looks like a Diamond T, but I don't remember them making a small delivery truck.
so its a diamond international? I can find some dairy truck and panel trucks but I can't find any thing that looks like that one..
You got it.. 1939 "Diamond T" Package Car. First one I had ever seen this small, as Diamond T typically made much larger trucks.
Here's the next one. This should be easy.

Actually, I feel like I have to accept that because it is identical, however what I actually had was this:
"Built for the Canadian market was this 1956 Mercury Meteor Rideau Victoria hardtop."
And the linky.....

I LOVE this thread!!
Haha.. now I feel even more embarassed. I run the show in that link, and even invited that car!!

Since I got passed over a couple of times when it was my turn, here's one. The number is significant.
1911 Marmon Wasp driven by Ray Harroun, winner of first Indy 500
Here's another:
I won't be able to check back in until this afternoon.
Yup, 1911 Marmon Wasp.
1968 Mk 111 Riley Elf.
In the early seventies, I was in the Army, stationed in Germany. I had a 1966 Mini Cooper with a 72 motor in it and set up for racing. I had so much fun with that car.

Kinda looks like a Morgan, maybe?
That's the front. Hint, it's American, pre WW II.
1940/41 Crosley?
damn - ill say you nailed it - I had NO clue
I was looking at mid to late 30's cars like pierce and packard and couldnt find a dang thing
I guess that's clarification enough.
Here's what's next:
One hint, this car has got to have one of the greatest names in all of automobiledom.
Man, that looks like some model of Checker....assuming it's American, not a Russian car of some ilk....like a Zil 111.....Unless, of course, it's a Hongqi CA770....
Actually, it was a 39 Crosley, but close enough.
It's from "across the pond", although this particular example was spotted in Dayton, Ohio.
No one knows this apparently
....a hint maybe??
Part of this car's model name is also that of an animal that is hunted quite often but never caught. Usually kids on camping trips are tricked into "hunting" for this animal down by the swamp(it's a bird, by the way) using nothing but one's wits and a burlap sack. This particular bird is very hard to catch (or shoot) because of it's irregular flight pattern.
To know the full model name of this car, think of one of these birds having extraordinary powers.
Okay.......Humber Super Snipe!!
Now I have to find one.....
Since I have to get up at 4 A.M. to be at work in Cincinnati at 7, I'll go ahead and post this. It'll probably be tomorrow evening before I can check again, so if someone guesses it and can post a pic to confirm, then go ahead and keep this going. Here it is:
Here's the full pic of the Humber Super Snipe(I love that name!):
I'm trying to remember where I've seen leather bonnet clasps like that..
Here's a hint....the color is a clue to the nationality of this car....
Right country, wrong car brand.....
I really suck at this game
Is it an Allard J2X LeMans?
I would say you nailed that one!
Here we go................
My knee-jerk thought was Nash Metropolitan, but it's grill doesn't extend out under the headlights like that.
Sorry for the delay everyone...I've been at work for 28 of the last 40 hours. Obviously, from the picture it's right...good call.
First thing that popped into my head was "old Volvo" but I can't seem to find one like that.
kind of looks like a late 50's Peugeot 403
It is 50's vintage, not American, I don't believe they were even imported.
Another hint, current US automaker that is in trouble has this brand under umbrella.
1952 Vauxhall Velox
Someone else can post the next one.
Here's the next one:
Hint: mid engine, three seater.
The only 3 seater I know is the MacLaeren F1, but I kinda doubt that's it, LOL.

Let's try this one:
The funky shape makes me think of a Citroen (sp???), but it's just a guess.
It's not French, Italian, British, German, or American. It's not Asian either. With the engine sitting way in back, it's not made for spirited cornering (as some Germans found out while driving this make many years ago).

I dont know if this is accurate enough of a confirmation
It's not a GT...it's an LX w/ painted moldings, late 80's yes, I'd say '89
I dunno...I didn't think they color-coded moldings until 1990-91
It looks like Alex's (minichang) rustang...I figured his were not originally painted either. I had an '89 LX 5.0 as my first new car, I know that wasn't an option...
My son's 90 LX coupe did not have the color matched mouldings. These look to be painted to match car.
Here is your verification, 89 Mustang LX 5.0
Originally posted by SVTGT350:

That is not an accurate representation of a stock '89 5.0. It is not a completely original car. As I said...I believe they (side moldings) were painted on that car above and those are definitely not original wheels for that year.
Well, it's been 5 hours and no one's grabbed the reigns, so I'll throw one out there:
Shouldn't be too hard.
'75 Gran Torino Elite. Or later they just called it the Ford Elite.
Close! It's a '74. It was my parents' wedding car in '77, they've kept it to this day. It's got the original paint, 351W/2V, interior, AM radio, everything.
Keep this going!

My parents bought a '75 Elite new. It was Polar white with red cloth interior. Options included power windows, AM/FM radio, tachometer/gauges, A/C, and wire hubcaps. It was a great car, they traded it in for a new 1983 Cougar. When I was about six or seven, I could easily tell the year of a particular Elite: '74s had Gran Torino emblems, '75s only had the "Elite" badge, and '76s had half-vinyl tops.

You can see it in the background of the picture of the elite. My dad got it a couple years ago with 10K miles on it, I think it's in the low 20's now. He babies that thing. Every time I drive it it makes me want a 3L soooo bad.
I always used to joke with him about how he doesn't drive it enough so I should take it off his hands. Then suddenly I got a girlfriend who's allergic to leather, so there goes that idea. Also means I can't have an ordinary CSVT. Oh well.

Yeah...her skin breaks out in a severe rash and in the worst cases it will crack and peel off after extended contact. Same thing happens with most shampoos, laundry detergents, green dyes, etc.

Possible. I originally thought that was a roll bar, but now that I look at it more it looks like a normal c-pillar.
That's the car I meant, but a different year?????
Nope, can't be. The later models were all wide-body. And the flat-body didn't have a flare around the wheel-well like the car in the picture does.
Looking at your sig, I'll take your word that I'm wrong.
you guys are close.....but not close enough lol

This is by far a record for taking the longest to guess.
My fault, I misunderstood. Any more hints?

But he said "mass produced." The Cord's were small-run cars that only the very wealthy could afford. When I think mass produced, to me that means any Joe Schmoe w/ a little bank can pick one up. Following that definition, the Toronado definitely is the first.
The answer is the "Toro" and it started production in 1966. Jay Leno has one, but its all Corvette underneath
If you get a chance to check one out at a car show, do so because its WAY ahead of its time, especially the speedo

Olds Cutlass Calais?
I saw the Leno Toronado build up on "Rides." That thing is just crazy sweet! I've always loved the look of the 66's and 67's. One day I shall own one. You can sometimes find decent ones on ebay going for a few thousand.

The dash is classic late '80s GM, and the back window is too deep to be a Grand Am or a Calais. Theirs were narrower (tighter back seat!).
Remember the Terrifying Toronado, one of the most ill handling cars in drag racing history. 66 Toronado with twin supercharged engines, all wheel drive.
It's not a GM product.
Hint: The roof is what makes this car stand out(and not in a particularly good way, imho). That dashboard was in production a loooooooong time.
WTH?? I was certain that was GM! Hmmmm.......
Jays car was delivered to him with 1200 hp, but they "turned it down" to 700 hp to make it more streetable
looks like a dodge something
Nope.

Wow...I don't think I've ever seen one of those before. You're right though, that roofline does NOT match the rest of the body. That roof by itself just screams GM! Good tricky pic!

Not a 275, nor is a Ferrari. I chose the color to confuse some of you. >:)
I'm thinking we need another hint, Im at work and bored as hell and want to know where to start searching.
That very well could be an Opel GT. I'm still confused though. That same taillight was used on the Ferrari's. Which means whatever car that is off of had to use the same manufacturer. The Opel GT was the closest resembling I could find, the lip spoiler doesn't quite seem to be the same as the Opel GT though.
Doesn't the Opel GT have the orange turn signal in the location of the brake light in that photo?
Was built in 1966. I had 64 siblings in 1966, exceeding the FIA homologation requirement. Most of my examples had 6 cylinder motors. A few had 8 cylinder lumps. I wear a perspex (plexiglass) cover over my engine compartment. While I was used by a fortuenate few on the road, most of my work was on the famous tracks of Europe.

Porsche 906
The Porsche 906 or Carrera 6 was the last street-legal racing car from Porsche. 65 were produced in 1966.
A successor to the Porsche 904, and designed under Ferdinand Pi«ch's new regime at Porsche R&D, the 906 replaced the boxed steel structure of the 904 which used the fiberglass body for extra structural strength with a tubular space frame and unstressed fiberglass body. The fiberglass itself was laid up by hand, producing consistent results, instead of the uneven spraying technique used on the 904.
The result was a car that weighted 580 kg, approximately 250 lb (113 kg) lighter than the 904/6 (the 6-cylinder 904). The engine regularly fitted was the 901/20 6-cylinder lightweight racing engine with 220 hp and carburetors, although some examples that were raced by the factory team received fuel injected or 8-cylinder engines, especially in hillclimbing events where Porsche competed with Ferrari Dinos for the European championship.
Unlike previous racing Porsches, the 906's body was tested in a wind tunnel, resulting in a top speed of 280 km/h at Le Mans, quite fast for a 2-liter engine car. It shows already a close resemblance to future Porsche racing cars. As in the Mercedes-Benz 300SL, Gull-wing doors were fitted, and the engine at the rear was covered with a large plexiglas cover.
In its debut in the 1966 24 Hours of Daytona, the Carrera 6 could finish 6th overall, and win its class against Ferrari Dino 206 Ps. At the 12 Hours of Sebring, Hans Herrmann/Gerhard Mitter finished forth overall and won the class, as at the 1000 km of Monza.
The 1000 km at Spa were disappointing, as were the 1000 km N¼rburgring were the Dinos were only beaten by the Chevrolet-V8-powered Chaparral. A privately entered 906 secured an overall victory at the 1966 Targa Florio when the factory cars failed.
At the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Ford GT40 won 1-2-3 ahead of the Porsches which could beat all of the previously dominating V12-Ferrari Ps for the first time.
In order to save money, spare suspensions produced in advance for a possible new series of Porsche 904 had to be used for the 906, along with big 15 inch wheels. Yet, Formula One used lighter 13 inch wheels, and Porsche had already used Team Lotus suspension parts in earlier years. The wheels were bolted on with 5 nuts as in a road car, which cost time in pitstops compared to a single central nut.
To take advantage of the lighter wheels and F1 tyres, the Porsche 910 was developed and entered in mid-season of 1966, starting with the hillclimb from Sierre to Crans-Montana in Switzerland.
