I'm giving it a go!!
Nazareth Raceway on October 13th. I've gone a couple of times and watched, some cool shtuff!! Nice people from what I can tell, too. Some really good drivers - hoping to learn a lot!
Anyone else want to come and show me up on my first time??

Hey there.. Good to see more coming out. If you remember
I was the guy borrowing a ride in the red SVT..
Hopefully I'll have a GS car to drive when I get there..
the Rabbit isn't prepped yet, and the Cougar is still in limbo... waiting for Ford... hrmm.
see you there.

Cool! I remember a Cougar with the rare 'multicolor wheel mod.' You? LOL

Yup that was me... car is sitting patiently waiting
for its next move(or the time it will move) Of course if Ford doesn't help me out I may have no choice but to put a
SVT engine in it(was quoted same price as reg 2.5) or maybe find someone willing to help me with the 3.0 conversion...

Dude, I'd definitely help turn wrenches if we can fit it into my shoddy work schedule.
Hope to see you there. Brian (Dude) will probably be bringing his '94 Mustang (Konis Eibachs all that) and my friend will be bringing her '94 SHO (Tokicos Eibachs subframe connectors - that car is solid). I have a funny feeling it's going to be a steep learning curve trying to keep up with you guys. You going to take my SVT out and show me how to drive it??

Well I look forward to seeing ya. BTW I can always drive it for ya What do you have done to it? Wanna try race tires (hehe) Just kidding.. the KDWs work well if thats what you've got.

Nope, haven't had the money to set the car up for track yet. Stock suspension, 17" wheels with Kumho 712's, catback and intake. Haven't had the money or the time yet for suspension and track wheels. Soon, soon.

Wow! That was a blast!
Much better than drag racing (although I will buy a drag car, too...)!!
Much thanks to Eric Ford and 'Justin', two very good instructors.
Highlights:
They stuck me in the wrong class (G Stock), probably b/c it was my first time out. I said that I had 17" wheels, slotted rotors, intake and exhaust mods but she said I would be fine for first timer.
First run: embarassing. Off course twice with only one cone womping. Yeah, great time there.
I averaged about a two second increase in time each successive run. My fifth run was consistent with most of the WRX's there. My best time was a 50.414 sec on a tore up suspension. Can't wait to finish that up!!
All in all it was a blast and I highly recommend it to anyone.
Oh, and if you're terribly new and have an easily bruised ego, I don't recommend letting someone like Eric drive your car. Cuz now I just know how much more work I have!! J/K Thanks Eric, it was nice to see the SVT spank some peoples! (Even if I wasn't driving it...)

Hey, thanks for coming out, glad you had a good time..
Its 2 weeks till the next event..
Also I'll be bringing my specialty multi-colored
rims/race tires next event for Dave to run on his
SVT.. The Ecsta V700s, get too oily and slippery
after heating up, my excuse for not getting any
faster after my first run.

I highly recommend letting someone drive your car
everytime I've let someone drive my car,
they beat me.. but that lets me know that
there is still time left out on the course to make up.

Don't worry you get used to wailing the cones..
and barely missing them too..

Now if you know of anyone who drives a High Power
exotic sports car that wants someone to drive it
once.. or twice.. I'll volunteer for that job..

And thank you for reminding me what street tires are like..
from time to time some people recommend returning back to Street tires for a taste and to fine tune skills.

LOL, I knew you'd go off course the first time. Everyone does it. The sea of cones hides the track when you're sitting down.

Glad you enjoyed it.

And also don't be afraid to tell your "instructor"
to shut up... LOL... heh...

So are you coming up this weekend? As long as dave comes he'll be riding on my race tires.. Victoracer V700 vs his Escta V700.
I need a vacation...

I'll be there - but only until I need to go to work.
YOU need a vacation?!
Posted By: chknhwk_dup1 Re: Auto X - Oct 13 - 10/22/02 09:23 PM
PS
I went off course twice!
Posted By: EricF Re: Auto X - Oct 13 - 10/23/02 01:34 AM
Yeah but Twice in the first run, only counts as once..
all your other runs were on course IIRC
Posted By: chknhwk_dup1 Re: Auto X - Oct 13 - 10/23/02 02:45 AM
Yes, I never went off course again. Only hit one more cone as well.
Personally, I'm proud of my times. I was better than several of the WRX's that were there.
Even if it was their first time, it was mine, too!!
(I seem to be a bit better at this than drag...)

Eric! I meant to ask you a question.
In my trunk I left the full stereo setup in there while autocrossing: one 12" sub in a bottom fired box and a trunk board fabricated out of 3/4" mdf As you can tell that would be quite heavy.
What would have been the benefits of removing it? As you can tell by looking at the car the suspension has settled quite a bit but the gaps looked fairly close front and rear. I think that would have done a lof for my f/r weight ratio. However, the back end did seem to get just a bit squirrely on me a couple of times.
I guess just do it again and pull the junk out? What do you think? Think I could have been into the fourties? Only needed another half a second...
Posted By: EricF Re: Auto X - Oct 13 - 10/23/02 11:39 PM
I'd Say pull it out.. Sure your F/R ratio might be better but I think that More of a disadvantage to have that stuff back there..
Being able to accellerate out of the turns is important.

As far as the rear getting Squirrely.. I'd say its normal.. My Cougar does it, Daves tour does it although his settles down quicker. And once conquered you can use it to your advantage..
