I drove in my first AutoX event.

This was the mid july AutoX held by the Mazda Sportscar Club of Washington at rosecroft raceway in MD on July 18th 2004.

My car looked a little different then
2000 Ford Contour SE V6 MTX (Silver Frost) - STS - Stock except for wheels and short shifter, 142,000 miles. = Body roll.

on brand New Kumho MX's (Install on friday, race on sunday)

My video from that first run has almost given people motion sickness
1st Run Video

FTD at that AutoX was taken by some guy in a silver miata.

One year and 36+(lost track of number last year) AutoX events later my car(s) look a little different.

1990 Miata (Classic Red) - ES/STS2 - Koni's, Racing Beat front sway bar, CG lock, Hoosier A3S03's/Kumho V710's, RT-215 Falken Azenis.

Did you actually stay on course?

Yes that was the course. MSCW is pretty much a Miata/RX7 club but they are working on branching out to the Protege/3/6 groups.

They are known for having tight courses. That was just abused 142,000 mile suspension rolling way more than the course did.

Wow, it looked like you spun out, you turned so much!

My course Sunday was super-tight. It was two laps of a figure-eight, and I only hit 2nd on one of the diagonals, and just before the finish. There were three hairpin turns that were 120 degrees or more, and not over a very long area. Top speeds were about 45 mph, maybe a hair more for the Z06. It was desinged by Karters. The last even with this club was a an airstrip: 9/10 of a mile, a 40mph slalom, a couple tight spots, and redline in second at FOUR different spots. It's amazing how much differently the car handles in a 50mph sweeper vs. a 10mph hairpin!

I dont know how you guys do it. Every once in a while I saw AutoX events when I was in OKC. Im too chicken to try it out. Its so confusing, how do you know where to turn and not get lost?

If that were me I would have just plowed cones trying to get to the finish.

when you are actually on course its a lot less confusing!! they usually give you some time before hand to walk the course as well. the one i have participated in had faint chalk lines outlining the course. however, we didnt have any figure 8s or anything like that.
