I am in. I'm pissed I missed the Brullen cat back G/B. I'm in the Y-pipe one though and was going to get the headers anyway..

Anyone know if there are any fitment issues with the MSDS headers and other brand Y pipes?

I would be but don't have the money right now, sorry

MSDS comes with it's own y-pipe.

IIRC, dyno proven that MSDS headers in conjunction with the y-pipe it comes with provided more horsepower than the SHO y. Plus you void the warranty if you use any other y-pipe with the headers. HTH

Id be interested in the headers but, I would also like to make sure that these are the ones that have the coating problem fixed.

I'd like to, but it wouldn't fit.

what kind of power gains do they make?
Posted By: SVTCuervo Re: MSDS HEADERS - 05/20/03 11:42 AM
There is a dyno plot on the page:

MSDS
Posted By: GR8SVT_dup1 Re: MSDS HEADERS - 05/20/03 11:47 AM
Their dyno plot has been a topic of much discussion around here. I would not expect their "claimed" gains at all.
I gained 11hp ~9tq w/ the headers and their y-pipe over stock manifolds and sho-y-pipe (w/ cat).
If I could ever find my dyno plots on my system, I would post them...(i'm at work right now). I don't have a "true" baseline...so I don't know what its like stock vs. headers w/ y-pipe...

As far as being more expensive.

not really.

if you consider he's giving you the option for "Jet-Hot" like coating for $40....that is SUPER cheap.
I paid $220 to get my headers/y-pipe coated. That right there is a high savings.

Take into consideration that SHO-Shop is selling just the headers (no y-pipe) for (iirc) $545....You are getting the y-pipe for $50!! Remember, these headers from MSDS go for $660 on their site....

Even if they do go up a little more, its still a good deal.
Also, I paid w/ a CC for security reasons, and that cost me some more $$$....This is a good deal - Same price as before (maybe a tad higher)

Posted By: FlechaAutoSports Re: MSDS HEADERS - 05/20/03 11:53 AM
Someone posted just recently the "NEW" coatings DO NOT WORK! How much uncoated?

eric
Posted By: GR8SVT_dup1 Re: MSDS HEADERS - 05/20/03 12:04 PM
there have been multiple coatings...

the original coating plain and simple sucked....it was a ceramic coating that was worth about 3 cents.

the next coating was crap as well. Although Marty said the coating was thicker and better, it was not holding up either. A lot of people had issues with their coatings. I had this particular coating (which was the "NEW" one at the time). I had them Jet coated....

The "NEW" coating is an OPTION.....You must pay for their NEW OPTIONAL coatings. It is the same as Jet-Hot according to Marty and others who have seen it. This is what he is charging an extra $40 for. If you do not want it, you don't need to have it.

I hope that helps in explaining.....
Posted By: Swazo Re: MSDS HEADERS - 05/20/03 02:43 PM
If it's like a "jet hot" coating count me in for sure!

Can you get the 'bigger' inlet MSDS headers?

LOL. I know what that image is....I just didn't know why that comment 'Like Jet Hot' was ROTFL.
Posted By: Speed Demons_dup1 Re: MSDS HEADERS - 05/21/03 03:49 PM
Sorry it's just funny that everything is compared to the quality of Jet Hot. But many of us find ways of going through others and later complaing about the quality of work. (Just comparing to the last job MSDS did)
I bet they fixed it though... so Good luck, wish I had a set of headers.

Wow, just 4 people so far?
Posted By: FlechaAutoSports Re: MSDS HEADERS - 05/22/03 11:35 AM
Someone here in fact used the "like Jet Hot" coating, the very latest one and it still didn't work, the one with the silver +$40 dollar one.

How much totally uncoated (once more).

Eric
Posted By: GR8SVT_dup1 Re: MSDS HEADERS - 05/22/03 12:03 PM
fletch - I'm not sure you can get them totally uncoated.
I would contact Marty to confirm your question - this might be a good option for those of us that would want to just send it in to jet-hot. Hopefully its cheaper.

If you were going to jet-hot them, then the price they quote you includes stripping/cleaning off the headers.

I had mine jet-hot coated...I bought them off of the last group buy and just sent them to jet-hot to have them recoated .... the good way.

also - i wasn't aware that someone already went through the coating of the new "jet-like" coating that MSDS is offering.
I thought this coating was just released a few weeks ago as an option from MSDS?

I know there are 1 or 2 people from NECO that got the new coating when it first came out.
I haven't heard any problems yet. Couldn't hurt to search just to be sure.

Send or post a pic of it.

ok. Did the search...Here is the only one I can find right now.

New MSDS Coating

edit - found another one.

New MSDS Coating II

This should answer any questions...if not, just call Marty and post the results.

Fletch - if you could, please post a link to the post where this newest optional coating has failed already. I couldn't find it.......and I'm tired of searching. lol.

Ok...I see where the confusion is.

the MSDS Headers had an original ceramic coating that was very thin. Most had issues with rust. This was the first generation coating.

Then, last year, Marty came out with a new coating - we'll call it the second generation. This is what came on my headers. Supposedly they were supposed to withstand a lot more salt and be more rust resistant. But as you can see by your link, and others complaints, it was not the case for some of us. Some have had no problems, however, some have had terrible luck.

Now...A few weeks back (IIRC, end of March, early April) Marty began offering an optional "third" generation coating from I believe, a third party vendor. This "Third" generation optional coating is being compared to likes of Jet-Hott. This is the one I was talking about....You were talking about the "second generation" coating.....I think we're straight now.

Personally - I just went with Jet-Hott. They offer a great gaurantee on their work.....especially on NEW headers.
It cost me around $220 to get mine coated through Jet-Hott.

Regards.

Looks like this is going to happen! I wonder what the shipping to Ireland will be? Would you guys recommend that nickel plated coating? I am not sure to order that as well or not. As these things easy to fit?
Posted By: Swazo Re: MSDS HEADERS - 05/29/03 06:17 PM
I'm getting the coating for looks/reliability.

It's a pain to remove the rear exhaust manifold, but the front one is pretty easy. With an extra set of hands/eyes, it makes things much easier.

Depending on where the headers are shipped from, it might not be that bad. To get an idea use a midwest zip code and use Fed Ex or UPS international shipping calculators they have on their sites to get an idea. Does anyone have a guesstimate on the weight for the headers and y-pipe??

Wow, coating looks pretty crappy in certain places, particularly on the y-pipe. What's up with that V-shaped pipe weld from the rear bank going into the Y? From all the hype I've heard on this board, I was expecting better. I was hoping to get these one day, but I'm not convinced I should ante up for this anymore.
Posted By: Swazo Re: MSDS HEADERS - 06/07/03 10:08 PM
Dude, calm down. those are re-coated with the new coating. The old one failed, it pitted from some rusting and then it was cleaned up and recoated. That's what you're seeing in the coating. New headers should look like glass

Maybe I will stay away from this One It doesn't sound Good And I can't find Out when It ends.

How many people have paid???
Posted By: Ronan_dup1 Re: MSDS HEADERS - 06/24/03 05:50 PM
I just got a phone call from Martin in MSDS and he says that he recieved my order which is cool. He also mentioned that he is still waiting for the remaining people to send in their orders, so all seems on track. I guess he must not have all ten orders so far. He has mine anyways!
Posted By: Swazo Re: MSDS HEADERS - 06/24/03 11:45 PM
Did he tell you if you're still going to get that price for the headers no matter what?
Posted By: Swazo Re: MSDS HEADERS - 06/25/03 05:14 AM
I'm still in of course as I have faith in this GB. I will make payment by this saturday.

My '99 is a 3 bolt.

Also for those of you who have not paid yet, payments must be recieved by MSDS TODAY. If you have not done so, pick up the phone and give 'em your credit card number.

To recap, 10 said they would take part. They were:
1. Russell
2. Drew
3. Swazo
4. Friction (Chris Hinds)
5. Axio from NECO
6. Ronan
7. AndrewR
8. motownSVT
9. nggalant
10. papadage

Then superperk and FlechaAutoSports jumped in shortly after that list was posted. So far 5 people have posted that they sent in payments. That would be:
1. Russell
2. Swazo
3. Ronan
4. AndrewR
5. Superperk

Was there a point to me typing this? I don't know.

EDIT: Added the list.

YEAH, what he said!

Oh man would I be pissed if anyone who said they would, didn't follow through. I understand things come up, trust me I know. BUT, there is almost no excuse to bail out. Death is about the only one I'd accept

I've tried calling my order in all day. Finally, I faxed it in and got a confirmation from their fax machine. I am still trying to call and make sure it is counted in the group buy..

OK..Marty called. I am confirmed..
Posted By: Swazo Re: MSDS HEADERS - 06/30/03 10:14 PM
Yup, I just talked to Marty also...he said "yes this was a smaller GB than originally planned....buuuuuuuut we'll go ahead and stick with our end of the deal." Great, good news!

Also he said to expect them at the end of July or the beginning of August.

I'm just really glad we still got the good pricing
Posted By: Russell-3L Re: MSDS HEADERS - 07/01/03 02:39 AM
i talked to amrty today, its NOT too late to still get in on this !!
Posted By: papadage_dup1 Re: MSDS HEADERS - 07/01/03 03:45 AM
OK, now big question...

Since I missed the Brullen group buy. What catback to pair with the headers. Also, is there a bolt-on hi flow cat that would work pretty easily with these?
Posted By: Swazo Re: MSDS HEADERS - 07/01/03 04:27 AM
Look into the True Bendz true dual exhaust GB that's getting off the ground.
Posted By: Ronan_dup1 Re: MSDS HEADERS - 07/01/03 08:28 PM
Cant wait to get these, its going to be hard to wait a month. I think I will be the first car in Ireland to have a set! Does anyone know what kind of gains one can expect with headers , bearing in mind that I am running a twin exhaust with a cat replacemnt pipe, and a induction kit with a pro-flow75maff? I am being pesimistic and guessing around 10-ish, maybe a bit less, but I am hearing at much at 30???
Posted By: Swazo Re: MSDS HEADERS - 07/02/03 02:23 AM
I've heard it's about 10-12 HP dyno proven gains..........but I wonder what the torque gains would be....
To the search button ::do do doooooo!::
Posted By: Swazo Re: MSDS HEADERS - 07/05/03 05:39 PM
Keep in mind these are MSDS headers that have been used and then recoated, so that's why there is SOME roughness on them. But this is the new coating they offer and if you ordered them, this is pretty much what they're going to look like Sorry, I can't wait to get my set

Posted By: Swazo Re: MSDS HEADERS - 07/15/03 07:52 AM
OK, I got a receipt and a "Vtec smoked by DURATEC" sticker from MSDS today......does that mean I'll be getting my headers any day now????

Funny thing is - When I ordered my headers through the last Group Buy that went on, I got that mailing w/ sticker a day AFTER I received my headers!!

So I would say - Any Day now....Any Day now.
