PRE-98 CARBON FIBER HOODS

i'm interested and may have another guy interested

The company is in Cali. They are a reputable company. Some of there work is sold through www.zxtuner.com. All I need is a small deposit to get these started. Just 10 people. I am also working with the same people on getting custom ceramic headers. I believe that was 5 people including myself so far. We only need 5 more. The hood is an exact of the oem just made of carbon fiber. It will fit the exact way the oem one does now. Thank you guys for your support and remember just 5 more.

I think there is another GB setup for the carbon fiber hoods through zxtuner for the same price and same thing

I already talked to him before starting up this g/b. That one he had fell through because they did not have a car in the area to get a hood for, for prototyping. I am now stepping up and trying to get one done and I really don't have the money to buy all 10 otherwise I would. If I did decide to by 10 I would definitely have to raise the price on the other 9 and I don't want to do that.

I don't remember saying that there wasn't a person willing to donate a hood...I had three people willing to. Anyways thanks for trying to get this thing on its feet. I picked a bad time to get a group buy started.X-mas is not the best time i guess huh

Would the deposit be payed directly to Rob Green(ZXtuner)? presumably it'd be like a $100 deposit? If this is the case, I'm definatly in! And if for some reason you cannot give your hood as a donor, I am also in SoCal, and my car is not a daily driver(hell its hardly driven at all).

OK the deposits would be $100 p/hood. The time frame is ging to be about 4-6 wks. It will be an axact replica of the oem just lighter. It will have the same brackets and everything. Shipping on these hoods is going to be $94 if we can get the hood in a box that is 58x50x6. I am also talking to one other gut right now that might be able to make them the same way, show quality and all for a lower price. We'll see what happens. I will keep you guys informed.

Well if those ten are seriously in, they never Emailed him....

Sorry guys. I have been away out of town and away from my computer. I had to take a business trip. I have not got an estimate of time yet because I have not found the 10 people needed. I do not know if they can be painted. I do know you can get a color one made in color carbon fiber, but it is an extra $100 and you would need 10 more for that particular color. You are right I did mean 4-5 people. I have only received 5 emails to get this thing started. I am really trying to get things done for our cars, but you other guys out there and ladies have to want to help.

Man..... I'm tempted to say I'll buy two(and sell the second after the GB) just so long as I could pay both deposits in one go, and then the remainder for each hood a month after eachother....

could we, after we get the hood, cut a hole in it? would this totally take away from the structural integrity? would i be flying down the highway with it waving up and down?

Guys we have 8 people right now. I have talked to Rob and if we get 1 more we can get this going!

The other little problem is we need a hood for a sample. So let me know if you have a hood that they can use to make the mold. This hood would have to be in a mint condition with no dents and such, and if you live in California area it would be the best!

There won't be any windshield washer holes. But you can easly put them in if you like. I am thinking of moving my nozzles to the windshield wipers like some cars

The only reason I took over was because you weren't getting back from Rob quickly and Rob even had trouble contacting you!... And by the way just to let you know you didn't start this GB through Rob... It was Jim (tourman113) who started it initially which then you took over with out even saying anything.

He said he did not have enough time to do everything because he was in school. If I donate my hood will I get the original back after everything is done? I didn't want this to turn into a battle. It is just I have been working on getting something done for these cars for years and I finally find a contact and someone steps all over me. So lets get this thing going................

Can you paint these hoods? Black C/F hood on my Dark T-red car wouldn't look that great.

If you want to paint it I would go with the fiberglass version for $225.

I'll ask about if the c/f is paintable.

Not to burst any bubbles, but do we even have a donated hood? I talked to Rob and said I was going there on Mon. to show my hood. In the beginning of this process until now though something happened. My hood has a small dent in it. I think somebody sat on it and dimpled it in. I am trying to pop it out this weekend. If that doesn't work I am trying to get a new hood from my friends Ford dealership.

it's pretty close to the same size, i wouldn't figure our hoods are $54 bigger.

Well currently, it looks as though I may be the hood donor, but its a good 2+ hour drive down there, so I can't really justify making that trip unless all the deposits are in... So please pay it ASAP!!!!

i was starting to feel teh same way, with plans for sims, bodykit, cf hood, etc

now im researching/planning on a 3L and putting rims off till a later date (still gonna get the hood and body kit, but not install it for a while)

Not everyone likes purple... personally I don't like it either but it is all that would go with the dark purple/eggplant color of the car - yes, the mondeo mirrors bolt straight up, it was the easiest mod I have done to date. I know you didn't say my car was rice - and I replyed about the hoods and group buys as showing class... I'm not nockin on anyones tour at all - by the way your tour is "clean"! JOE
p.s. I would suggest the carbon fiber black hood for you... just because that would look the best and you wouldn't need to tell everyone that you got a fiberglass hood or here them ask about it... This way they can just look at the carbon fiber one and go "damn" after you tell them that there are like only 10 ever made!

I am taking my car to a shop either later today or tomorrow. They are going to try to see what they can do about the dent and also fix my clutch. Once out of there which should be by Fri. I am going to take it to Rob. So what I am saying is we should be starting making these hoods within the next 2 weeks at the latest. Thanks to everyone...........I also think the only reason a lot of us are saying it is too ricey is because all the rice got them before we even had a chance. I think it will bring a lot of class to the car and will increase eta's for those racing with something lighter.

i've emailed rob, and within a few days I got a reply. The hood situation is being worked on. I've learned to be patient after joining hella's body kit GB. i believe plastique synthetix has become too busy to get his hood there, but showtime is working on it.

No no no... I'm not too busy, I live about 3 hours away, whereas 1sweetride lives in the same city at Rob/ ZxTuner.... If i don't hear anything from sweet ride within the next week, then I will plan to take my hood down there(on the weekend since that's the only days I have time....). Don't get pissed, like he said have patience..... The groub buy for the CF pre98 front bumper took more than 6 months from start to finish, and I'm not going to let this go, I've waited too long for this.. Please understand my position. I will make that trip if there is no easier alternative...

Sorry guys....I don't know why you haven't got any response back from Rob. I talked to him on Thursday explaining the situation and what was going on with my car. I am working as quick as I can. I only have weekends off from work and even though I am in the same area it takes me a while in the mornings to get there. My main problem right now is once I drop off my hood I need another one so I can drive my car around. I know that's not your guys' problem. I hope to have a second hood for me this week. I too am getting the car repainted in a month or so and am getting estimates now.

Needing this hood now on a 1-10 scale I am up to about a 9.5!

I need to know the hoods have been started and that I have dibs on one of the first few and the same prolly goes for tour96se....

think about it like this, either you get this hood when it's made, or you get no CF hood at all. go ahead and get ya'll cars painted and tell them to not paint the hood.

Guess what guys... I finally got a hold of Rob! Here is the scoop:
The person who was originally donating a hood kinda disapeared and someone was going to pick up the slack with there hood.
Well there hood was somewhat dented and they didn't want to take that in because it would make a sh!tty mold.

GOOD NEWS TOO!

Rob said that he has enough deposits to go and buy a new hood for the mold if it's not too expensive or he is going to see if the dealership will let him borrow one. Either way it will probably start in 2 weeks or so

He was thinking that it would take a total of 6 weeks to send the first hood out.

I have been trying to call Rob since Mon. I have left messages with him. Any way I have been having problems getting a hood to borrow once I send mine into Rob. I have also been trying to call him just to let him know waht is going on. My car was supposed to be the donor hood. Even it was straight and didn't have the dent in it I would still be having the problems I have been having. I can't seem to get my car to stay out of the shop for more than 2 days. I am trying to get this thing to work. Sorry

I really want this hood but not at the end of the summer

The newest news is that I talked to Rob. We had discussed going out and just purchasing a new hood to get the mold started. Problem is the cost on it was $550 wholesale. I was supposed to be getting a hood from a friends shop to borrow. Again ran into a problem. The owner of the car decided after being gone for 4 months on vacation they wanted there car back. Anyway bottom line is that there is a hood going to go to the manufacture to start this within 1 week. Sorry guys this is taking so long. It has been one problem after another. We will have these by kits being done and started going out to the buyers by the middle of next month. Again thanks for all the support.

Okay, here is the current situation...... I got the hood off my car, and made a box the right size for it ready to ship it off. That evening, Tuesday, one of my helpful neighbors notifies me that the home owner's association will fine me for having an "imobilized" car in the driveway. I am therefore going to be ordering a car cover, and as soon as that arrives will ship my hood. Please don't be pissed with me.... I'm ticked off myself, cause I said I would do this and every time I try something messed up my plans...
but there... just to let you know, Sweetride and I are trying our hardest to get an undamaged hood to Rob ASAP.....

I've been in contact with the people handling this GB for a while. I know it's taking a while and it's frustrating (I'm in the body kit GB, I know how frustrating waiting is), but it really seems they're working hard to get it done very soon. I've got things I want the hood for too, but if it doesn't get here in time, then oh well. If it never gets here because people dropped out of the GB, then that will be a real shame. If it never gets done because nobody ever gets a hood to zxtuner to be molded, then that will just suck. If anybody here wants this done and has a good hood, please try getting it there if you want it done soon. My hood is full of dents, or I would try to figure out a way to get mine to california.

This is bull! There is no way that they are trying as hard as everyone is describing!

Getting a hood to a shop for this would take a week, two at most with the troubles we have all been hearing.

It's up to somebody in the GB to get a hood to them so a mold can be made. These people handling this GB are just like me and you and have lives and some need the hood to be on their cars. If we buy one from junkyard or dealer the price of the hoods will go up. If you are tired of waiting then get a hood out to california so a mold can be made. Like I said, there are other GBs taking MUCH LONGER. And if this gets finished by the end of the year then I'll be happy, of course I'd be happier if it got done sooner. But I can't get my hood out there so I can't complain too much. It would be a shame if you backed outta this cuz then there would be no CF hood for pre98s EVER.

Please people. We are not BSing anyone. We are working on getting this hood down here. Even though it is only about 2 hrs. away from me the owner can't drive without a hood in cali. You get a ticket for that. Until he can get his other vehicle to drive while we have his hood we are stuck. Apart from the fact I live at least two hours away from ZXtuner, I also have a full time job and a very busy life. I offered my hood, to help things go smoother, despite the fact it WILL inconvenience me, and despite the fact that right now its looking like I won't even be able to afford one of these hoods myself. If someone can get a hood there sooner, be my guest, I am trying my hardest. I could cry you a long sob story about why its turning out to be so hard for me to get it down there, but I don't need to. Well it is a deposit, and this GB is still sorta going. A deposit is sorta non-refundable. A new hood would be about $300. So if eveyone would be willing to pay $20-$30 more, we could get this done. What ya'll think?

If anybody in California could pick up a hood from fordpartsonline.com's dealer at take it ro riverside, we could save $100+ on shipping and get the best deal on a new hood. It's about 5 hours one way.

Also, anybody wanting to get in on this GB still can. The more people we have, the less it will cost everyone.

I would get in on this if I wasn't buying a body kit.

It was up to someone in the GB to get the hood to zxtuner. I'll want my money back of course if this doesn't happen by the end of the year, but like I said it was up to one of us to get the hood to him. I'm trying to talk to him about purchasing a hood, but if people drop outta the GB and noone else gets in, the price will raise to high for the rest of us to be able to get the hood.

Ok people...Here is an update. Just got off the phone w/Rob. We had someone come out to pull the 2 dents. Well after seeing what they could do on a car they were sent home. So now we are taking it to another place. The bottom line is the first hood should be ready in about 6 weeks. Sorry for the bad and yet good news. I know we are all waiting in anticipation for this.

Are these hoods going to be like OEM or custom design? I looked through but didn't see any pictures. Are there pictures? Just curious thats all.

They're like OEM in shape, but show quality carbon fiber. Contact rob at zxtuner.com about getting in on the GB now. So far, everyone has only put deposits in, but it may just me another month or two before the full price is needed.

I've been watching this thread for some time...all I have to say is wow, I don't know how you guys can just stick through it.

When you really want something and there is no other way to get it, you stick with it. It shouldn't be much longer now as the factory actually has a hood there, just gotta wait on them.

It is not too late to order a hood. If you order one now it is better because than you wouldn't have to wait as long as most of us that have been waiting about 9 months now. I read through the post, is the fiber-glass version that can be painted still available for $225+shipping? Or is there a CF version that can be painted? Just looking for the right hood to get as I need my to be able to be painted, and ready for paint preferably

Not sure about the fiberglass one, but the CF one can be painted it'll just cost a lot more to get painted because of the prep work required.

I am down for a hood if everything works out for the GB.

Then you need to let Rob know. I don't think he'll be selling them after the GB.

As an update if you all don't know, the mold should be done in the next week or so, and he'll ship the first CF hoods in about 2-3 weeks. I won't get mine till end of january though :/ Oh well.

$100 deposit now, the rest when is charged when it ships. Call or email rob.

You can also get colored c/f. It is available in red, blue, yellow and silver. Cost is $100 more. We should find out tomorrow if the hood is done yet or when the whole thing will be done. Thanks again

So what's going on with this?

When I placed my order for my fiberglass paintable hood, he said late January before it would ship in all likelyhood. that was a few weeks ago though, maybe someone else has called more recently.

I can only guess that the hoods should be ready soon,
since the bodykits have been shipped.

This has nothing to do with body kits, totally different company. I emailed Rob the other day on another subject though I asked about the hoods though no reply. I'm sure it won't be too much longer. I hope not as my stock hood looks like crap. Happy New Year, and I'll try to contact Rob soon.

Lucky for you I called today. They have finished the top mold, and are working on the bottom mold. Rob says they should be ready to ship in 10 days. He also asked me to let you guys know that you should email him. http://www.zx2racing.com/store/

I have called him 5-6 times already and spoke with him once and left messages all the other times.... I have already heard that the hoods will be shipped in 10 days... ABOUT 8 MONTHS AGO! These should have been shipped in June or July of '03... it is any issue about them being lazy or not prioritizing our order. It just needs to happen, soon. - JOE

You know, I am kinda thirsty but I gave my last $100 to this damn group buy! hehe - I have vented sooo many times already that I am sick. For awhile I forgot I was even getting this hood! c'mon guys lets get this show on the road already.

I just called Rob for you lazy bastids.

Top mold is done, as of last month. They're in process with the bottom mold, which should've been done this week.

Turns out the origional guy that was doing this left the company or whatever, so Rob is just trying to keep the pressure on the new guy to get the mold finished.

He was shooting to have hoods ship out this week, but since the bottom mold isn't done, it's a no go. He's trying to get it out next week.

the ceg is the worst thing to happen to manufacturers i guess. when we get a GB going on something it usually leads to something horrible happening to whoever is making the parts for us. strange huh.

I hope to get the second or third hood made, so maybe I can get you some pics. I think the guy that helped get the hood needed for the mold will be getting the first hood, especially since he can pick it up there in cali.

are you going to leave it as is or paint it?

Leave it,, cost too much to get painted. Maybe one day I can get money and work out a design for it. I plan on throwing some more CF on the car, got a CF/chrome shift know, and hopefully can get sail panels,, sorta tie it all together.

are we going to be able to buy them after they ship some out so I can see pics

Hello guys...Sorry I haven't been on here for a while. I haven't really called Rob since about the first of the yr. I had to let him know that I am no longer getting a hood due to the fact of my car being stolen in Dec. So unfortunately I will not be the first one with it. Last time I talked to Rob he did say the same thing. That the bottom was done and they were going to be doing the top soon. The company that Rob went to is very busy making hoods for other cars that have a larger volume and that is why it is taking so long.

That sucks that your car got stolen,, with all the work done, it seems like it'd be sorta easy to find, unless they took it to a chop shop.
