Rear Strut Tower Braces for the Contour.. someone mentioned it in a PM and I just wondered if there was enough interest in it to bring up the subject with Albert.

If you guys are at all interested let me have a show of hands so I can talk numbers with Albert and see if it's a viable project.

I want one!!! I want one!!!

The one for the Cougar looks very functional and just plain sexy!

It's not even a forgone conclusion that Mirko will even produce one, I'm just getting a show of interest to see if it's worth exploring the possibility... if there are enough seriously interested peeps, I'll bring the subject up next time I am down there.

If it can be sold for less than $150, Im definately interested.

I'm getting one soon, So I might wait for this one depending on comparison to others, including price.

ok since there are two prods being talked about in here can you guys be specific about whether it's a futire Mirko Bar or the HPP mentioned by Keyser that you are interested in, so I don't get confused and take the wrong figures to Mirko.

No point in me telling him you are interested and getting him to think about it if we don't have good figures.

Thanks guys... sorry about that. Keyser do me a favor and start a diff thread on a GB for HPP RSTB's if you want to do one. Ta

I am definately interested in a MIRKO rear strut brace assuming it is of similar construction and price to the Cougar brace pictured above.

I'm in.. Pending the details.

The Mirko Cougar RSTB looks nice and I'd be interested in one for my SVT Contour if it is similar in design.
Posted By: MissyB Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/05/03 08:43 PM
Ok I emailed Albert about this so he knows there is interest in the project.. Stay tuned, I'll let you know if I get anything concrete back. Be patient, he is busy at the moment on other projects too.

So far I have:

LuckyTour95
Kremithefrog
CRZYDRVR
bk4293
ATL-SVT

as interested parties... anyone else ?? If you aren't seriously interested in this let me know to be fair to evryone else involved.

Also as far as I know ( normal routine ) Albert will be needing a test car if this project gets the green light.. anyone in the San Jose /Morgan Hill area interested in lending their car for fittings if he needs one?
Posted By: AirKnight Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/05/03 10:28 PM
Just a tip to you, make sure you get all the deposite before committing anything to Mirko. Just speaking it from my mind knowing how a lot of CEG'ers are on group buys.
Posted By: MissyB Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/06/03 02:14 AM
Thanks for the tip, but without some solid committment I doubt it would go into production, I think past experience with groups, not necessarily this one has made that almost unavoidable... this is just to see if there is enough interest to even consider the project.

Posted By: Nick98CSVT Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/06/03 04:11 AM
Any way we can get a front and rear deal? I would like to get both at the same time.
Posted By: ButtonPuncher_dup1 Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/06/03 05:34 AM
Interested depending upon cost and looks. I'm look for something that will mount fairly high in order to clear my sub box.

Please send me an e-mail at buttonpuncher@wi.rr.com when the details are ironed out.

Thanks,

hesitation is understandable, I'm in for a non-weld RSTB. . .or maybe if it came with plates with the option of welding. . .I've been waiting for a descent design. . .

Posted By: MissyB Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/06/03 06:45 AM
A front Strut Tower Brace has been discussed briefly in the past for other CDW-27 vehicles

If you want to voice an interest in a Front STB start a new thread and let's see some numbers.

to be honest I have no idea.. I haven't got a contour I'd bet it doesn't though or someone would have tried it by now... and I am sure Albert would have said something if it did... but I will ask to be sure

No it won't. Contour strut towers are slightly farther apart.
Posted By: NorMich99SE_dup1 Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/07/03 12:31 AM
PLus the Cougar has some little "wings" or somehting on the rear towers, that the bar mounts to. Or so i remember hearing..

ok, so how many of you are interested in a Front Strut Brace.. that is also something that is being considered depending on the level of interest.

Also is anyone interested in supplying the donor car for fittings?
Posted By: BK4293_dup1 Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/07/03 06:45 PM
Where does it have to be donated to?
Posted By: MotorCity Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/07/03 11:31 PM
I may be interested depending on price and design.

I would want one that bolts to the strut towers and not just where the strut is bolted.
Posted By: chknhwk_dup1 Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/07/03 11:51 PM
I'd be totally interested (already am, honestly) if they match and the FSTB fit the BAT caster/camber kit.
Posted By: AirKnight Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/08/03 01:03 AM
That being said, I'll be interested as well. I will not be ready to pay until Summer. But if I'm in a Group Buy, you can count on me paying up unlike a large number of other people on CEG. Let me know if something more solid comes up, how much it'll cost, what it'll come with, and other options.

ok if anyone's seriously interested in getting a front strut tower brace manufactured hop over and show your face in the Mirko Forum, if there is enough interest I'll take the idea to Mirko and see whether it's viable. So lets see a show of hands if you guys really want this stuff.

Posted By: csc99svt Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/08/03 03:30 PM
you guys could do both front and rear stb's as like a package, would be cool to have matching braces with battery tied downs and the splitter on my car.....very nice.....def interested and willing to pay up front!

I thought this WAS the Mirko forum? Where do we need to go? I'm lost... I thought this thread was for guaging interest...

Their is a forum on www.mirkoracing.com

It is, but I can't update the list on here.. so it's easier if you add you name there too and then I can update it so everyone can tell how close to GB numbers you are. If you don't I have to keep copying people over.. it's no biggie.

Posted By: MissyB Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/10/03 07:19 PM
ok anyone got any more comments about this project before I take it to Mirko to see if it's viable?

I'm not promising anything, so I can't say if you'll get an RSTB GB, a FSTB GB or a Combob GB... or squat diddily.

If anyone signed up as interested, that really isn't, say now.. otherwise it looks bad on everyone in the Group if I go take him facts and stuff and it falls flat on it's face like some past projects have with some GB's.

Don't forget this isn't a re-run, this is a new project, so even if Mirko take up the project it won't happen overnight.

Thanks to everyone who has already commented.. Good Luck guys, I hope you get what you want. If it's half as good as the Cougar RSTB it's going to be wicked !
Posted By: csc99svt Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/11/03 04:43 AM
werd.......i am down no matter what......

time is of the essence or some crap like that

like i said, i am willing to pay up front! holla.
Posted By: MissyB Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/11/03 04:58 AM
for all 20??? just kidding

Okie, well I'll talk to Mirko over the coming week/weekend, hopefully between machines he'll have time to take a peek see what you guys want and see what he can do to make it happen for you all.

Will be kinda cool to have some more SVT's in the Mirko Enhanced Streetcar Gallery.. so I hope you guys are going to be installing and taking lotsa pics I'm working on adding a few of you in already.. so keep em coming.

Posted By: Dan Nixon_dup1 Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/11/03 02:03 PM
I will throw this out.....

Could Mirko develope rear strut tower "wings" (what his STB and the ST200 4-point brace bolts to) similar to what the Cougar has? At least a few CEGers have built homemade wings to weld on to STB so they could mount the ST200 rear STB. This would allow you to use the Cougar rear STB already available on Contours..reduced R&D cost I would think..I would buy a pair so I could mount my ST200 brace..I rather do this than fabricate.

These wings could be bolt in or weld in...
Posted By: csc99svt Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/11/03 02:22 PM
yes it does mean less r&d for mirko but what about cost for us.......

i mean no offense and all, but lets look at it this way....mirko produces fantastic quality products, i love em.....but since their battery tie down is 40 bucks on special, dont you think you might be able to gauge some future prices here......i would expect something like this to cost at least 50 bucks or more....plus a separate stb.......

just doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me......

not knocking mirko in anyway (i promise missy ) but i think i would rather have a stb.

no offense taken.... so where do you live exactly??

Mirko is always open to suggestions, if there is enough interest then it's always worth considering. So see how much interest you have for the rear strut tower "wings" and if you get enough people interested I'll talk to Mirko about it.

I don't think you know what he's refering to. The Cougar ST200 rear STB is a much better design. He's refering to have Mikro make something so we can fit it in our car. The Cougar ST200 rear STB is going to be way better than any single STB out there I'd say. So if they make an adapter (how about using that word instead of the word "wing"), I'd rather get that and the ST200 STB (or they can make it themselves and I'll get it from them) than a single bar STB.
Posted By: Dan Nixon_dup1 Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/12/03 07:00 PM
Correct..in addition, the Mirko Cougar bar also bolts to the wings/adapter. I think that if Mirko made (relatively simple)adapters, then Contour owners could use either the Mirko Cougar bar or the ST200 4-point bar. By lower developement cost, I mean that Mirko would not have to design a whole new bar, just the adapter...which would be steel & easier to work with than the aluminum bar. I think this would be less total R&D cost than a whole new bar. This should increase the volume of sales on his existing Cougar bar which might bring cost down slightly.
Posted By: MissyB Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/12/03 07:38 PM
Well I can ask, but I don't know whether he would be interested in making parts to fit " other " parts. If that is what you want start a new topic for wings/adaptors on the Mirko Forum so we can keep it easy to follow who wants what.

personal view That's almost as bad as someone asking if they can have parts off his cougars to send to someone else to make a competitive part, knowing that Mirko was also doing that... and that went down like a tonne of bricks. To be honest I'm not really comfortable asking him to make wings, but I will if that is what you guys want because it's my job.
Posted By: Dan Nixon_dup1 Re: Any interest in ....... - 01/13/03 07:37 PM
Its up to you...

The idea was make the wing/adapter to fit the Contour strut towers so that MIRKO'S OWN COUGAR STB would bolt to it. Because Mirko's bar looks EXACTLY like to top portion of the ST200 front STB..I assume it will work with that as well (though it may not). The ST200 bars are I believe all sold out or maybe a few left. They are not really competition for Mirko at this point..they were left over euro production parts, so no more will be made.

I did not want to buy ANY other existing rear STB, because they all rely on flimsy srcews with no bolts or backing plates. The ST200 bar bolted with backing plates to the metal wings (welded factory parts on Cougar) giving a secrue attachment. A better system & Only way to go IMO. But if nobody else is interested, no big deal I would just fabricate some...

Ok, I mis-understood your meaning, I thought you wanted to be able to use other parts with it. I'm glad you clarified that for everyone.
