Hey Guys,
I will be putting a GB together in January for the MSDS Headers. The order minimum will be exactly as before (10) and if anybody has any questions about the headers please use the SEARCH tool or
CLICK HERE to read the old GB posts, anything you could possibly want to know about these headers is covered with searching or that post, this is a GB forum (please refer technical questions to the Duratec Performance forums)
We need 10 serious buyers. Price will be finalized at the start of the New Year and the GB will end beginning of FEB.
I'm just give you all a heads up, post here for your interest. Price will be similar to the previous buy with Ypipe.
just a question are they difficult to install?
Not sure, I've never installed them.
Will this include the SC-specific headers?
I've heard they are a PITA to install because you have to drop the oil pan or something. . .

I will answer all questions PM'd to me as the year-ends. I am just posting this to get you guys ready since sometimes when we are not prepared to into a GB due to bad timing and lack of funds. There is no deposit taking at this time, just state your interest so I'll know it's worth while to pursue this in the month of January. The GB is exactly like the previous which I believe featured the Vortec spec headers as well.

Yes they are a pain in the rear to install. I just did them on my car I didn't have to drop the oil pan or anything like that but it did take me quiet a while to do. Do the rear one fist cause it is the hardest.

I Started the last GB with MSDS and Just FYI to you guys talking about the JETCOAT... The Coat that Marty puts on them directly at MSDS is what he says all you will need. He has a new guy that puts on the ceramic coating on the headers you will be getting (if they are the same Which they should be) and he said it brings the temp down of the headers tremediously. ALSO, if you get your own coating put on the headers OR you rap them, it voids the warranty MSDS provideds!

I had MSDS which rusted badly. Sent them to Marty for recoating which isn't supposed to rust.
Came back looking exactly the same as when I 1st got them with the "older" coating. 
I have talked to several other CEGers who have had the newer coating whose headers are rusting.
Get them coated.

SHOshop sells them that way for 549. Keep in mind, if you use SHOshop's y-pipe, it'll void MSDS's warranty. Also, you still have to buy MIL eliminator's, or build a set.
Is there anyway to get this started sooner? I want to buy a set NOW. My car goes in to SHOshop this Friday, and I'd like to get them by Monday.

SHOshop is building me a 3.0 with all the trimmings. UIM/LIM, P/S UD pulley, lightened flywheel and street clutch, Quaife, new motor mounts. This is why I want the headers.

He will not ship it to JetHot, you'll have to do that part yourself.

I'm getting mine Shipped uncoated and then sending mine to Jethot coatings...I haven't got a price on the coatings yet Fugg it....Kim just so you know I strongly recommend getting them uncoated and getting the jethot coatings. I have some friends with cougars that have these headers and drive there cars year round. The headers rust easy and the coating chips easy also. So, considering you have to deal with the snow/salt like us in the midwest I'd get the jethot coatings. Not dissing MSDS coatings just stating my opinion from what I've heard

How well will the Jet Hot Coatings stay on under driving conditions?
I can't think of any one in California having these problems with the coating though...
For piece of mind - Marty @ MSDS has been really good about upholding the name of his product. The Headers have a year warranty on them and in some cases he's even recoated the headers after warranty has expired.
The new coating they are using should hold up.
I'm fortunate to no longer have to drive the cougar in the snow/salt anymore due to owning the Contour, but even then I'm still wary.
I'm still quite undecided. I purchased an extended warranty on my cougar back when I first bought it (it's an atx afterall), and I'd hate to have this void the warranty.
Would MSDS sell just the headers (and if so at what price) since I already have an MSDS Y pipe?? answer used to be "no"..just checking.

This GB ends JAN 31st. If the order requirement isn't met then the GB price doesn't happen. The last GB didn't meet it's requirement either but Marty was kind enough to let them pass through at the GB price. We have to make atleast 8 or 9 and maybe, MAYBE Marty will let it slide but then again.

Well, at SHOshop, 550 gets you headers only, no MIL's, no Y-pipe. Add 60-80 for MIL's, unless you build your own for about 20 bucks, and you're closing in fast on MSDS' retail price of 660.
I would've participated, but I needed a set of headers much sooner, and Marty had a set of display headers, so I took those at a price closer to retail. He's a great person to deal with, so hopefully, this GB will happen, or at least some of you guys will get a better price.
I got in on the last GB. I'll say this about the MSDS coating, when I opened the box there were places on the headers and y-pipe where the coating was rubbed off by the shifting during shipping. I did not want to pay shipping to send them back to be recoated again and possibly have bare spots again. Instead, I sent them to Jet Hot.
I tried to install them myself but decided to wait until I have someone to help me. At this point, I'm waiting until my garage is dry enough to sweep the sand and salt out and hopefully not be cold enough to see my breath, as it is now in the midwest.
I did install the y-pipe. Better throttle response and nice sound. Cant't wait to install the headers. I have noticed the temp guage does not show the engine is running any hotter then with the stock y-pipe. I think the heat contol and longevity of the Jet Hot coating will be worth the expense in the long run. Plus the coating looks very cool.

Yes. The real test for the heat control aspect of the coating will come when the headers are on as well as the y-pipe and I'm stuck in traffic in mid-July but so far the coated y-pipe does not seem to heat the oil in the oil pan any more than the stock pipe. If I rememer correctly, it cost about $220 for the three pieces and shipping.
Doesn't seem like it bro. It's bad timing though. After Christmas and with so much other stuff going on it's hard to pull somethin' off at this time.
I have to buy the headers for my 3L build up but I'll try to start one prior to summer time.
i dont think its the g/b's or the people here that are disappointing...its the timing...600 is kinda alot to spend right after xmas and many people are trying to either get headers or body kit or something
i remember nyceboi asking in a poll what would people like to see in a g/b and im guessing the headers won...i voted for something else cheaper but it obviously didn't win
and msds doesn't allow for much time for the g/b...they basically gave us less than 30 days to send the money in...i woulda been in if the time limit hadn't been so damn short, but i dont have 600 to spare in that short amount of time
i've been thinking that if they would let me subtract the y-pipe, the coating and the shipping/insurance charge since they are close enuff for me to pick up it would be in the 400's and that would much more manageable, but its' too late now either way....its time to buy a new washer and dryer and get my tags and damn i want them but.....

From previous posts it is clear that the worst that could happen is that MSDS will cancel the group-buy (GB) due to lack of participation. In that case, the hard-core guys that really want these headers will have to make their own individual arrangements (I will simply call ShoShop since I donâ??t need the Y-pipe or MIL eliminators)
Thinkmoto, why on earth would you make a separate full price MSDS header purchase so close to the GB submittal date (and post the fact here)!? IMHO this seems rude to nyceboi and our group in general and is clearly a blatant attempt to undermine the GB. The fact that you actually posted this in the group-buy thread really makes it worse. I could be wrong, but I think all youâ??ve done is somewhat reduce the chance for others that this GB will work.
Hey, from everything Iâ??ve read, for non-supercharged cars these headers and Y-pipe really do make a noticeable difference across the entire power band. Ignoring cost, they are probably the single most effective mod you can make as they will enhance every other improvement. Duratecs really love an unrestricted exhaust. I hope to post pics of my new group buy discounted headers in a month or so!

Just to mention it, if anyone is interested in a really high quality cat-back system, check out the Bosal GB that also expires Jan 31 ($500 shipped to your door). I bought one of these under that GB and received it Friday, two days ago. REALLY impressive looking system (all polished stainless steel) and from other peoples posts it sounds great and makes noticeable power. I canâ??t wait to bolt-on all my new exhaust pieces and take a test drive!
Thinkmoto, why on earth would you make a separate full price MSDS header purchase so close to the GB submittal date (and post the fact here)!? IMHO this seems rude to nyceboi and our group in general and is clearly a blatant attempt to undermine the GB. The fact that you actually posted this in the group-buy thread really makes it worse. I could be wrong, but I think all youâ??ve done is somewhat reduce the chance for others that this GB will work.

So [censored] off don't tell me I'm undermining the GB, I talked to Marty at MSDS and he wasn't to pleased with this GB either. Considering this is what happened in the last one. People trying to get extensions on the pay period etc...That's not how it works in the real world!! Marty doesn't need to give us a discount on his products, they're definately worth there price. I was going to buy this headers no matter what and I did. And about being rude, you're the one being rude questioning me??? Get bent I paid along time ago and as far as I know I'm still the only one that paid. So, how does that make me undermine the GB??? I sent the extra money to Marty, I had already sent him money for GB price.
And people wonder why manufacturers get pissed about these GB's. Look at Mirko he doesn't even want to deal with the CEG!! Next time you decide to bash me think again, I held up my part of the deal. My money was sent so marty wouldn't have to sit there wondering if this was going to happen. Which it seems it's not, because I had no word on anymore people being in on it. And if by some act of god, 8 more people send in payments by Friday I'm sure marty will refund me the extra cash I sent him. Personally I don't really care if he does or not because these headers are the best one's you can get in my opinion.

You're right, I didn't initially read every post in this thread. Posts that have two or three or more red angry rage icons I skip since rants aren't usually very interesting - or informative. But on your advice I have gone back and read the ENTIRE thing.
The one post I did initially read seemed to pretty clearly say to heck with this GB and everyone in it. Now though, having read EVERYTHING I see that there is a much more extensive and colorful and angry history behind these remarks...

I think GBs are all about the opportunity to purchase cool equipment for our cars at a discount - while having fun doing it. People will participate in a GB if the quality is there, the price is right and its FUN. Nobody is going to join one of these because they've been bullied or pushed into it.
How did so much anger get mixed into this GB? From previous posts (the ones I didn't read the first time through) it seems even the vendor is unhappy. Big mistake. We shouldn't upset a quality GB vendor. Even if there are not enough participants we should just thank the vendor kindly, let them know they are always welcome here and encourage them to try again when the timing is better. I think that vendors don't do enthusiast GBs so much for profit as for the good product visibility!

I try to remember this is a hobby and that we work on and improve our cars because it's fun! If being a car enthusiast starts inducing rage, it's definitely time to take a break.

sorry guys, but I've had to duck out on this one, you wouldnt believe what I've been through this month. On the 4th I was hit on the highway by a man who in turn lied about the accident and with no wittnesses, that makes me screwed. So as of now I have a wrecked zetec, a slipped disc in my back, and two adjoingin rotated discs in my lower neck. And I found out last wedneday the motherf*cker is trying to sue me... I cant believe this world at times. I hope you guys enjoy your 20 or so hp so for now I'll just be settling for some gutted precats....

ouch man, i'm sorry to hear that. On of my friends was in an accident WITH witnesses. He was not at fault but a year later that person tried sueing him! Just someone probably going through financial trouble and thinking "hey, i'll sue that guy I hit!", lucky the insurace company came through for him.

The group buy (GB) is still on, MSDS is accepting group-buy order forms (posted way above) until close of business Friday. I priority mailed my form on Monday and it seems at least a few others have joined. For convenience, I also chose to pay by credit card (4.5% fee).
From previous posts it seems the worst that could happen is that MSDS will cancel the GB due to lack of participation (less than 10 orders). In that case, the hard-core guys like you and me that really want these headers can make own individual arrangements (I will likely call ShoShop since I don't need the Y-pipe or MIL eliminators).
As far as I know we did not meet the GB. Since I'm putting headers on both my cars I found a deal somewhere else (plus I can avoid CC charges and California taxes
(I hate Gray Davis, our governor).
But thanks everybody for atleast trying to make this happen. Timing is everything and after the holidays it just isn't mod season.
I don't need the MIL eliminators, but I don't know if I want to use the SHO Shop pipe or not

When can we expect them to be sent out? Are they easy to install, who should I look to to get them installed. Average price of installation? I know that seems like a few too many but i'd really appreciate any answers you guys could provide, thanks in advance.

Did MSDS cancel the group buy early?
I understood that they would wait until close of business Friday, 31 Jan, to make a determination. I assume of course that MSDS told you a couple days early that your two orders would not put us over the top. (It would be ironic if we only missed it by two!) This is an unusual GB in so many ways.
Since I already submitted an order form and payment, I am curious to know for sure either way.
I am also looking at two sets of header purchases this year (one right now and one late in the year). Where did you make your purchase? Iâ??d like to contact the same vendor and most likely place an order as soon as I find out for sure that this GB is dead.

my deal is not sealed but just buying in California is expensive for me (taxes increased cuz B!tch Davis doesn't know how to run the 5th largest economy in the world). I make most of my purchases online in other states since it in fact does come out cheaper even with shipping (I don't want my money going to Davis totally exposed corupt government)
I'm attempting to buy one used and one new right now. If I can't get the used one I will be buying both through CTA Motorsports where I make most of my purchases. Chris is a pleasure to deal with plus he has first had experience with most of all the mods on his website with dyno results! Something I havn't seen other vendors do - so he gets my business. I havn't asked him nor Marty at MSDS for a deal just on two. But you would should be able to save on shipping alone.

I bought a set at Marty's "Meet-in -the-middle" price. I encouraged him to not get discouraged with CEG Group buys and to try again later this year. Marty did notice that the CEGer who started this GB dropped out before the end...

i got mine and they are on there way too jet hot coatings already. I bought my headers early because I knew the GB was gonna fail. But anyways yeah
