As the contour after market dwindles, performance part supplies goes down and the demand goes up. I am able to build rear strut braces similar to the ones made by HPP. These would obviously be cheaper (in price) then what they used to sell for and will be guaranteed. I know, there has been recent ideas for production on these. But is anyone insterested as of now. I could get this done very quickly. Basically what I am looking for is a minimum of 10 people.

Anyone...

I have a HPP rear strut town bar and it is worth it. I put it on and I could tell the car was turning in better. You don't need anything to mount it with either, just tighten it up where you want it and it good to go

I did have an older image that was better but it isn't online at the moment (the eibach sticker is upside down because at the time I didn't have eibachs and someone saw that there and asked me if it was made my Eibach)

and as you can see it is up out of the way

Hmmm... Bradness makes 'em - used to make 'em for BAT and SP (CTA?)
Posted By: Dr. Cross Re: Rear Strut Brace Interest Check - 12/22/05 05:05 PM
If it is the kind that just tightens in place (as Brapple said), I'm interested.

I would think that any type would just tighten in place as the idea is to put pressure on the strut towers

although I guess one similar to the omp but for the rear could be made and that would need to be bolted in

also the HPP one could be mounted but doesn't need to be
Posted By: RogerB_dup1 Re: Rear Strut Brace Interest Check - 12/22/05 05:34 PM
I need one, at some point, and you're right about suppliers dwindling. I had entertained a notion of building one myself, but depending on price and product, yes I could be interested.
Posted By: RawBurt Re: Rear Strut Brace Interest Check - 12/22/05 05:44 PM
The product will be very easy to install and require no drilling or welding and for the most part being just as effective. Like I said the price will be cheaper then, what they were sold for. I am going to be making an aluminum and steel prototype.

It'll be basically identical to the one posted by brapple...

I really like the idea of not having to bolt it in, just tighten it.

Welding the end plates with a simple bead on each one would be ideal though so it doesn't wiggle loose. Any exhaust shop could do that in 10 minutes, max - that's what I did with mine.

sounds like good insurance, but I don't think mine has moved, but I haven't autocrossed my car or anything, just pretty normal driving
Posted By: Harrry Re: Rear Strut Brace Interest Check - 12/22/05 08:41 PM
i cranked mine down really good. hasn't moved!! I could hang off mine literally, and i am 175 pounds!! no drilling or welds. But if u decide to do autocross racing and u mean buissness i say weld it. Security is always good!!

I have the same bar red too!! Works great and u can feel the back end feeling more solid. Less slack in the rear especially when u turn the corner and hit a bump. It feels solid!!

If you seriously autocross, check the rules wrt welding. Even full cages have to be bolt-in until you get pretty far up the class scale.

There will be plates on the ends... They are curved and will fit onto the strut towers, that way you dont need to worry about drilling or anything.

Just wondering but are you going to paint them too?
Posted By: RawBurt Re: Rear Strut Brace Interest Check - 12/23/05 02:46 PM
That is up in the air right now. If we end up using the aluminum, it will not be painted because the aluminum looks good... kind of like chrome. But if we end up using steel, which I doubt we will, they will be painted black. OR, you can invest 5 bucks into a can of spray paint.

Once we have 10 people that are serious about this, we will be making a steel and aluminum prototype.

That is correct, I started gathering materials yesterday. But still need to get a few things. Once the first one is completed it will be tested out in a certain CEG'ers car. Once my design is verified, we'll be able to get this going.

We ran into a bit of a slowdown with locating some necassary parts. But after alot of calling and searching everything is sqaured away. All the grunt work is done, so that is good. Basically once the parts come in, everything will be ready to be assembled. I need a 10 person minimum on this for it to happen, so... If you are "IN" then update the list. The price is $110 shipped.

Do you know what the HPP STB looks like? If so, picture that... It'll be close in design, only we have made changes, that'll make it more robust.

I will not be able to snap any pics until this weekend. The shop that we are doing this at isnt exactly close by. And as of right now, it is a weekend project until all parts are recieved. But for sure, we'll have pics of one this weekend.

I think these group buys would actually have much better success if they were spaced out a little more.

I have no choice but to turn down the Xcal 2, and Weapon R headers because of some of the other group buys.

Bill- Keep in mind that, that was the first proto... The second one will be revised slightly.
It's not looking good for me.

I honestly didn't expect you to move this quickly. I think your price is fair and reasonable, but dude, it's right after Christmas.

Hope you get your ten, and I hope you (or somebody) does this again. These things are getting hard to find.

I'll keep an eye on this thread, though. Never know.

I realize its right after xmas, and the timing sucks. But if it would help, what I could do is have people that are in for sure send a small deposit. Once I get the minimum, I'll go to work... However long it may take. That should give you guys some time to better your expenses.

I'm interested as well. So basically how does this compare to the BAT and/or any other ones available. I autocross so it does kind of matter which one is best, and no I cannot use the entire rear strut tower brace that has the crossbraces, only and horizontal bar style like this one.

I don't know if this GB is going through (too may posts to read), but I'll sell my RSTB to anyone that is interested. It's the one streetflight used to sell. PM me.

Ummmm actually this GB is, and I would appreciate if you kept your sales somewhere else. Besides these will be more effecient then the streetflight bars...

People, I am still waiting on a shipment of aluminum tube. This stuff was very hard to track down because I wanted to use a very thick wall. Hang in there, and expect pics this weekend, even if they are just progress pics. Thanks

Are these strong enough to attach racing harnesses to?

These are mounted in the trunk so i'm not quite sure how you plan to attach it.
Posted By: Kremithefrog Re: Rear Strut Brace Interest Check - 01/29/06 12:07 AM
I would not advise attaching a harness to the RSTB, both because of it's location and how it's usually secured (usually not welded in). You need a bar behind the seats running between the B-pillars if you want a bar, though there are other less permanent ways to install a harness correctly.

This bar would not be suitable.

You could use a welded strut bar as a harness bar, but then that would probably break the rules in a lot of classes.

Flip down or remove the rear seat, yo!

Alright, yeah, I agree, one not welded in or super secure like an ST200 would not make sense. I was just kicking ideas around, i'm still interested nonetheless.

Alright, got the aluminum on friday... So this should be picking up in progress soon
Posted By: GI8U2racing Re: Rear Strut Brace Interest Check - 02/06/06 10:21 PM
Alright, well I am definitely in. I was wondering, since it looks like it just keeps tention in the towers by pushing them out, would there be a benefit to putting bolts/nuts through the tower to make sure it never moves or gets loose in a tough turn?

I don't think our towers move THAT much! I had one on my first Contour & ran it hard. No problems with it moving at all, so you should be just fine.

If you don't have enough compression to keep the bar in place, or your towers flex so much that the bar gets loose, then you've got problems a bar will not help and should have you car checked out before it splits in half.

so what is the news with this gb? I've been watching it and considering, but I haven't see any updates!
Posted By: RawBurt Re: Rear Strut Brace Interest Check - 02/12/06 06:46 PM
Okay heres an update:

The aluminum is in and ready to be tapped. The weather has been slowing us down, ummmm monday or tuesday im picking up some left hand nuts and we should be ready to build after that

If we are definitely in, would you like our money now?

No, not yet. Now that I have the aluminum for the final product... I will be posting pics of it once its done. Then I will ask for a 20 deposit. Once they are done, I'll have you send the rest of the money and I'll ship it. Sound good?

Posted By: RawBurt Re: Rear Strut Brace Interest Check (update) - 02/14/06 02:40 PM
I know I have flip flopped around a bit about the price, but I am going to set it at $120 + Shipping. The reason I have set it at this is because the only supply of aluminum stock we could find with a very thick wall was PRICEY!!! Its about 10 times what we paid for the steel. As far as payments go, i'm guessing it'll either be paypal or money order. And just to let you guys know, I have scheduled two days for this weekend in the shop, so expect some major progress/ rsb's ready to ship. Thanks
Sounds good, but why not just set a shipped price, maybe $130 shipped? As long as this is a very high quality bar, I know I am not affected by the price increase, if I didn't want the best I would have had another one by now.
Posted By: RawBurt Re: Rear Strut Brace Interest Check (update) - 02/14/06 03:12 PM
Shipping will vary... Let me check into what some prices would be to ship these and then I'll get back to ya on setting a standard price like that. Because that is definetely the route I wanted to take initially

Got a Question?
Me and Tim are going to try this so he just left to get his tools...

What if I was making a 3.2 (SHO) Twin turbo rear mount, with a 150 shot of xeon, with that mondeo 6 speed RWD all mounted in the trunk, Will there be clearance issues with the strut tower brace? (will we have to make an adapter bracket because I have some OSB sitting around the shop)
