I saw all the pictures of peoples engines that have a carbon fiber engine cover. After asking around I finally got a lead on who made them. I sent them an email and they still have the mold and would rather make more then one so who would be interested? Heres a copy of the email they send to me as well as the email I sent to them:
------------------------
Mike,
You are correct. We made the engine covers for the Contour Enthusiasts group. it is amazing that anybody remembered since we haven't had an order in over a year. I was beginning to think that they had all the engine covers they were ever gonna buy. I would be happy to make an engine cover for you. We would rather make several of them since the mold is put away on the rack, it takes a few hours just to dig it out.
If we can get a few orders, it would make it more worth our while. I am going to get a single part price together and also a 5 part and part group order price together. If we can at least do 5 parts it makes it more cost effective to pull the mold down and set-up a run.
Let me know if you are interested.

Subject: Contour SVT engine cover...

Hi I'm a CEG (www.contour.org) member looking for some information about carbon fiber parts you may have made in the past. I was told my Chris (cawong11) another member on CEG that you at one point made engine covers for some people. I was wondering if you could sell me a cover as well. I've attached a picture of what I'm talking about I hope it helps. Let me know if you can help me out.
Thanks for your time.

-Mike Ries

Here was the picture of Chris's engine that I attached to show the engine cover:

-----------------------------------

So who wants in? I'm also going to see if they can do other colors.

I have one from a the original group buy which was for the Coug but was offered over here at the same time..

I'm in if the price is about the same.. I think I paid 125.00 but waited like 8 months.. (but this was thru NorCalCoug and Wayson)
I will also ask about the price and wait patiently

Here's what the red one looks like. I've since put a vent in it with Elky mesh. I think they really add to the look of the engine.

What needs to be done to keep them from yellowing? I saw a couple of them at Spring Zing, and they looked like they didn't like the heat very well.

It comes down to what resin is used and how the part is manufactured.

a bunch of info about composites Go to the fibretalk section which is their forums. There is another website that is better but I can't remember it right now.

EDIT: www.icancomposites.com And I also want to say that I'm not attempting to hijack.

Ick.. thats definately the resin they used.. My Wayson one looks perfect and has not changed in color at all.. Weave is flawless as well.. unfortunately waiting 8+ months for a container to arrive from overseas sorta discourages me..

as an FYI - Krazy Kustomz sells one for the Cougar which is the same thing -- perhaps we should hit them up instead for a group buy to reduce the normal cost?

$175.00 from Krazy Kustomz

i'm in...
As many others have said, if the price is reasonable, count me in as well.

I got mine in the original GB from John (chknhawk) and it looks as good today as it did the day I opened the box.
Mu buddy has a blue one and it is basically yellow now.
so are we doing these
i think it was NorMich99 that had one at SZ last year that looked like it had gotten thrashed on, yellowed and cracked galore.
Posted By: Goonz SVT Re: Carbon Fiber engine covers (Duratec) - 11/21/05 01:34 AM
well if this stuff is gonna crack and yellow on me, then forget that..
Guys, the information in post #1 is in fact the guy I was doing business with for the original IMRC group buys. Doug is an absolutely wonderful guy to deal with and I'm sure if somebody brings up the issue with the yellowing he will strive to ensure that doesn't happen in the future.
Here's an article he sent me a while back: http://www.detnews.com/2005/nngrosseile/0509/15/R04-312060.htm
And here's a few of his other projects: http://doogie48084.yafro.com/

If you are interested I encourage you to contact him and discuss your issues with Doug. I have the utmost confidence in his business. Plus it's nice to keep our business on this side of the pond.
If he's willing to guarentee a quality product or be willing to work with someone who is dis-pleased i'd have no problem doing buisness with him, as long as the price is reasonable.

I'd jsut like to state that i'm in no way trying to kill or dog this GB, i love the look of these, the guy that had his crack and yellow may have gotten it through a bad GB or someone who uses cheap materials.

I'm still waiting for some information to come my way. He replied back to me on Thurs. Hopefully I'll have a response by Monday/Tuesday. Like I said I'll keep you guys posted as soon as I get a price.

I will also look into Krazy Kustomz to see what they can do for us. Not sure if the quality will be the same though... so who knows.

Was someone thinking of using CF1 for this? I didnt think they had anything to do with the engine covers.

Nope, Goonz is just a drama queen
Posted By: NVMYSVT Re: Carbon Fiber engine covers (Duratec) - 11/22/05 12:09 PM
I'll whip an email to Craig Flango to see what he can do for us on these.. he gave me a hell of a deal on my new hood the other week...

I will report back on what I find out and what he can offer us on those covers up there from either KIT or KrazyKustoms as he is involved with both.

Heres the latest and greatest folks:
----------------------------------------
Yeah,
I just found out that the prices for carbon fiber went nuts. I hate to do this, but I can't sell the parts for less than $180 retail, but if you can get 10 buyers, I can go for $167.
If you can get 20 buyers, I can do them for $157.00. Shipping is extra. Use 48180 for the shipping area code and for a weight use 3 pounds.
and box size is 24x12x6 approx.
I am located in Taylor Michigan and can do approximately 7 parts per week. First come first served.

I'm out.

I looked at this GB before and thought it kind of goofy to carbon fiber a part that only weighs less then a pound. It looks nice, but for 167 dollars! Heck you're almost at a set of headers(200 for bare set). I can foresee this GB dieing real fast.

unfortunatly, it was worth the effort, atleat now we know how much they go for..

Of course it was worth the effort. The CF peice looks nice. It a shame it cost so much!
Posted By: CSVT#49 Re: Carbon Fiber engine covers (Duratec) - 11/23/05 06:14 PM
I agree. The cost is high, which is why I said does anyone still want in on this. Because frankly I personally don't feel like buying in on this. $167 for purely detailing up the engine bay is not worth it. I'm satisfied with my painted cover at this point. Although I will continue with this GB if people still want to buy in, I just won't be one of them.
Posted By: NVMYSVT Re: Carbon Fiber engine covers (Duratec) - 11/28/05 12:02 PM
I'm just whippin back in there to let you guys know that I did get a response back from Craig Flango at KIT/KrazyKustoms and he reported back that Wayson is no longer making CF parts and he does not have another source for the parts..

Sorry guys.
Thats a real shame as the CF cover looks excellent, here's a few pics of mine

Mark,
where did you get all those shiny bits at?
Posted By: Pole120 Re: Carbon Fiber engine covers (Duratec) - 12/04/05 06:05 PM
Where did you get the fitted colored hoses?
69Boss302 - I had the ST200 UIM chromed by a mate. The covers came from various places over here in sunny England. If you have a look at www.miragestainlessstyling.co.uk you will see most of teh bits. Otherwise keep an eye on eBay.co.uk as bits appear on there all the time.

I'm not sure if we can get these in the UK now. I know they where a group buy over here so i dont see why they wont do another GB if there is enough interest. I could find out if you like?

Btw there is a guy over on fordmondeo.org named Wotty who make the stainless covers much cheaper

If anyone needs help with stuff over here i will be glad to offer my help.

Mark
Mark T, your engine bay looks great! Where'd you get the cover from?

Anyway, thought you guys would like to see some of 3G's other CF work: 3G's resume.

He never tells me before hand! Focker. LOL

Samco
What we need to do is get a group buy on these hoses. I would definately be in for a red set. Anyone want to make the call?
I just looked at the Samco website and they are onlty about 30 minutes drive from me.
If you want me to find out more info on these and maybe get a GB going i would be glad to help.

Let me know your thoughts and i'll take a drive there.

Mark
Do that Id like a set in RED.
