first off, i would like to thank harold and gerard from morette france who traveled across the world to bring us these lights. i would like to thank patrick from morette usa for bringing the morette name to this side of the pond. i wish both companies nothing but continued success in their pursuits.

now the images...

these awesome images hardly do these lights justice. you have to see these things in person and you will lose your mind. my face hurts from the grin i had on my face all day long.

AWESOME! You rock Mike.

Where are the details?

Available when?
Bulb type(s)?
etc.
etc.

Posted By: MapOfTaziFoSho Re: morettes fitted - 06/10/05 01:39 AM
I want em now.

Is that some bumper sag? Oh and now you have to paint that oval and mesh it. Doesn't look right in stock form with those headlights.
Posted By: Sl33stak Re: morettes fitted - 06/10/05 01:40 AM
yup.................sign me up!!!!!! Rough estimate on price?
And are they HID? or 900 series bulbs?
Posted By: Tuned3900SFI Re: morettes fitted - 06/10/05 01:42 AM
I like them in black a lot, too. Some slight angle shots and side shots would almost change my perspective greatly. Still an amazing looking product Mikey, congrats on the good work to all of you, and can't wait to hear final info so I may buy a pair from them.

gerard and harold both from morette france hard at work on a hot day.

Mikey you did a great job setting everything up.
Posted By: unisys12 Re: morettes fitted - 06/10/05 01:46 AM
Mikey, those are so awsome!

Again, a special thanks to harold and gerard from morette france, as well as patrick from morette usa.

Oh yeah.. the black one's looks like a photoshop design that Mikey did awhile back on a true cold air intake design.

Awesome,

Now the only problem is sorting out my HID Situations.

The way the previous owner did the retro fit, will probably require me to get some new bulbs at the least.

Wonder what the black ones would look like ona silver car...

I think the black one pictured is a comparison of Mondeo vs Contour.....

looks great for a first fitting! i am assuming, however, that they will still be revised? i assume that the answer will be yes, but just thought i would ask. the gaps are just a tad large.

really looks great though. thats awesome that morette is actually going the mile (+ some as far as im concerned) for contours. something only a few companies are willing to do for us these days.

again, AWESOME!!!

p.s. less than we thought, huh?! thats GREAT news!

yeah this is the first time that these guys have ever been in front of the contour. the only lights they have seen were the ones i sent them in april.

this was an awesome first test fitting and i wish i would have gotten a pic of the cm by cm measurements that were taken to fill in the gaps. gerard was meticulous with these lights. morette is a first class company with first class employees. it was a pleasure to host them for this fitting.

see the morette usa booth at sema this year.

You said they will cost less than we think...How did that come about? Did they tell you a price, or did you say "this is how much people are estimating the final cost to be" and they said "it will be less than that."

I have to agree. I expressed concerns about how the plastic tabs on the OEM housings easily break (I have at least one broken tab on all four of my housings). Both Herold and Gerard explained (well, Gerard could only show since he doesn't speak English) how they took that into consideration when fabricating the prototypes. The mounts are much more flexible than OEM ones. I was also impressed with how well the prototypes looked despite Morette designing them without ever having touched a Contour until today. Mikey was right; Gerard did a lot of work today and I know that the final product will be first class.

I know some are concerned about cost, but I have to say after seeing them in person I'm completely sold on these. We need to show these guys that we are serious about our aftermarket. If cash is a concern for you, do what pole120 and I are doing and start saving now.

Found just a few pages back. They WILL have to be spliced.. and I am going to assume that the bulb harness will have to be cut, spliced, and taped to work, although there are companies that make conversion kits from 9005 to h7, etc. Possibly Morette will either incldue or offer these for sale on their site or what ever.

My thoughts too!! And to repeat an earlier question, what's the deal with H4/H7 bulbs? Are they supposed to be better than H3's, etc, or is it just a different base? Even tho Chad says he saw where the wires would have to be spliced, I didn't see it. Is he right or did I miss something?

And Mike, I know it's been said before but will continue to be said for many months to come, "Mike, you've really gone and done it now!!!" A sincere, heartfelt thanks to you for what you've done for CEG. After years of crying and complaining about not being able to get Morettes, IT'S ALMOST OVER!!!!!! i am farrrrrr from loaded, i have a wife and 2 kids and a nagging ex wife so i am farr from loaded. i wanna have different styles for my car for different set ups. some think i am crazy but i eventually wanna have an oem cf hood and a pre 98 cf trunk so i will have 2 of each since my cf trunk w/spoiler is on its way and i already have the cowl cf hood. it will be good for shows to be able to go to 2 different shows in 1 day and look different,ya know.hey what do i say i am unique

No no.. thats cool. I'm jealous, for sure! I've been thinking about buying one of those "dion" trunk lids. I liek them. I think that combined with the CF cowl hood, black morettes, and black trim rims would look really hot.
Posted By: Y2KSVT Re: morettes fitted *colors changed - 06/10/05 06:37 PM
Ryan,
Take into consideration the pain in the arse it might be with swapping headlights for every car show, or everytime your mood changes. If you have to splice wires to make the Morette's work, do you really want to mess with it everytime you want to change headlights? I say buy the Morettes and DON'T LOOK BACK!

Mark

i think it would man so the "dion" cf trunk lid with my cowl hood + morrettes will be the wild svt and the oem cf hood and pre 98 cf trunk + either the projectors or oem headlights will be the mild svt

A) None of those CF products will last very long if they are removed/installed repeatedly.

B) They are not quick swap items and will require major fine tuning. All require fabrication and hood latch adjustment.

Your desires are well noted, but completely unrealistic.

This is going to turn into the new 'must have' mod for the SVT :P.

The new K&N Ru3530

*edit* I also think the photochop of the black lights on the silver car looks a bit funky. Ill have to wait and let someone else do it, and actually see it on the car before i decide.

Well I dunno, come to think of it, that might look weird on a pre98 Stique, anyone that could photochop one with these?

yeah this is the first time that these guys have ever been in front of the contour. the only lights they have seen were the ones i sent them in april.

this was an awesome first test fitting and i wish i would have gotten a pic of the cm by cm measurements that were taken to fill in the gaps. gerard was meticulous with these lights. morette is a first class company with first class employees. it was a pleasure to host them for this fitting.

see the morette usa booth at sema this year.

Mikey,
That is the best coordination job I have ever seen for a product on these cars! My hat is off to you and I will definitely put a set of those silver ones on my list. I couldn't imagine paying for another set of factory crap that is going to craze, glaze over or fog up.

Wow. I hope they can be used with standard bulbs..or affordable bulbs. Will they?

The should be affordable. I know the HID's were like 400. Reg bulbs should be 25 ea. And by regular I mean silverstars.

Keep in mind that the fasteners for the hood are molded in and repeatedly changing the hood will eventually cause them to loosen and/or break out. The trunk fasteners are probably the same. They're just not something to be constantly screwing with.

Uh, no. You are incorrect.

If you read my post regarding this, you would realize that different latch adjustments are needed for each type of hood - spacers, dremeling, latch height adjustments, etc.

Have you ever had a CF hood on your car? Have you ever installed one? Have you seen how the hood mounts on the hinges?

I know, he has the cowl hood - which from the 4 that I have seen in person - require modifications. The OEM CF hood require mods that differ than the cowl hood.

I've installed 2 different types of OEM CF hoods and both required different mods to the latches - different from each other and different than the cowl hood. Getting the hoods to line up perfectly front-back and side-side was not easy either.

Maybe it's me, but I've never heard anyone claim that it's easy to swap hoods.

Is it just me, or does it look like the line on the Contours side (Runs from quarter panel to rear quarter panel, kinda creats a little flat shelf on the doors right under the windows) is missing on the Mondeo? Sorry if this has been asked before, and maybe my eyes are deceiving(sp?) me, but it looks like that, is that why body parts from the Mondeo don't match up with the Contour?
Posted By: Tuned3900SFI Re: morettes fitted *colors changed - 06/13/05 07:49 PM
Amongst MANY other things, yes. I hear that the overhead console and the rear tailight bulbs are about the only compatible parts.

Didn't see it answered yet, so I looked it up:

H7: 55w 1350 lumens, +/- 12%
H4(low): 55w 910 lumens, +/- 10%
H4(high): 60w 1500 lumens, +/- 10%

9006: 55w 1000 lumens, +/- 15%
9005: 65w 1700 lumens, +/- 15%

Source.

Those are Silverstars, btw. I'm kinda confuzed on what would be on when you have it on low beam... all 4 lights on with the H4s on low, or just the H4s on low? Oh well, something we'll just have to find out...

Since the lumen output is lower on the H4/H7, I'll have to assume the round reflector is more efficient, which is why the lamps put out less lumens.

Anyhow, Maybe if I order a set of these I can just pick my set up at the factory (if they're made in France) since I'll probly be in Germany by the time these are being produced...

Posted By: hmouta_dup1 Re: morettes fitted - 06/14/05 03:06 AM
any chance they will consider making a version with a clear lense like the stock lights. i just dont think i like the "openness" of the lights. the curvature of the lenses and matching up to the curvature of the bumper is lost because now the front of the light is recessed back further than where a clear lense cover would sit. i like the dual light look just better with a clear lense over it.

so what are everyones thoughts about putting HIDs in those? is that possible with an exposed bulb or would that be retarded blinding? for some reason i think retarded blinding, but i havent ever seen a light housing like that in person.

if it isnt possible, i may have to attempt a projector retrofit because i really dont want to go back to halogens. im spoiled like that

you can put HIDs in those, you'd have to get a D2R bulb so you dont blind people THAT badly..lol

the gap in the pics is caused by a bit of interference with a portion of the bumper, my understanding is there will be a template supplied to remove the offending piece. they removed it on mikes car, but after the pics, very simple to do.

Mark
Posted By: PeppermintPatty Re: morettes fitted - 06/17/05 08:45 PM
Sounds like a portion of the bumper (under the lights may have been pushing up on the housings) will need to be trimmed, hence the template. I hope this trimmed portion would not be seen if factory headlights have to be reinstalled at any time.
Posted By: Y2KSVT Re: morettes fitted - 06/17/05 08:50 PM
I seriously hope this is NOT the case. If so, count me out as I'm not hacking up my bumper to make them fit. Say it aint so!

I'd have to agree about that...
Posted By: m!key Re: morettes fitted - 06/17/05 09:07 PM
there is a tab under the lights that needs to be trimmed off with a dremmel that took less time then it takes me to type this. i am now running stock housings and there is absolutely no problem. thank you for your concern.
Posted By: Y2KSVT Re: morettes fitted - 06/17/05 09:27 PM
Thanks for the call Mikey! I now know what Pole was "trying" to say . There is a small tab on the bumper, where the headlights mount that will need to be trimmed. Once this is trimmed, the headlights will be able to come down and rest on the bumper as if it were stock.

Mike, can you take a pic of the area trimmed?
Posted By: posthuman63t Re: morettes fitted - 06/18/05 02:02 AM
you buncha wimps!! backing out because you have to trim something a little? Whayt I gather is that there is a small piece of bumper (picture a small raised poertion on the bumper) that is not allowing the bottom on the light to sit flush. Simply take a dremel, or a file even (depending) and get it flush with the bumper. Then it wont be pushing up on the light, and there will be no gap. It's a 5 second modification. Jeesh...
Posted By: Y2KSVT Re: morettes fitted - 06/18/05 02:08 AM
Ummmm no.. From my first conclusion, I was under the impression that we had to get the hacksaw out and go to town which = me not wanting to fark my bumper up.. Mikey called me and verified that the only thing that needs cut, is the mounting tab on the bumper..

Nah. I believe in reversible mods. Everything I have done to my car is reversible. So, Mike if you can, please provide a pic.

Thanks!
Posted By: warmonger_dup1 Re: morettes fitted - 06/18/05 02:54 PM
If you have ever had the bumper off you'll see that there is an alignment tab for the stock headlamp assembly. It is redundant because the screw holes are what align the lamp. Anyway, it is nothing to remove it, won't affect the bumper integrity in any way, doesn't have any clearcoat paint on it or shouldn't and won't affect either light system in any case.
Don't worry about it.
Posted By: Y2KSVT Re: morettes fitted - 06/18/05 08:44 PM
I later found that out. I don't mind cutting a small tab. But like I said, had we needed to chop away a portion of the bumper cover itself, I'd be out. With the cost of a front bumper, I wouldn't do it. I also like reversable mods. Thank God we don't have to worry about it though!

Hmmm, Morettes!! If the fit and finish is anything like this, I'd have to do it. It should, from all the measuring it seemed they were doing.

BTW, picture from chillduke's post.

light installed...

tab cut out of header panel (quarter for size reference)...

looking straight down...

so that is the modification that had to be done to get the prototype lights to sit down on the bumper. it took about 10 seconds with a dremmel and it is to the header panel not the bumper itself.

pic taken without the tab cut out. sorry no pics of the after. my bad...

Is that a small bulb down on the one side? What's it for? And if this is new technology, what is the availability (and subsequent cost) of replacement lens, bulbs, housings, etc? Questions you probably don't have answers for...yet.

And BTW, !

It's a city light. From what I read about the base I'm going to in Germany, you have to turn these on when you park in certain areas b/c there are no street lights.

They said to not park an American spec car in those areas b/c you'd have to leave your parking lights on all night.

I think they're just little LEDs, but could be a bulb like the ones in the 3rd brake light and door handles.

Shows what they do...

That brings back some memories. I was stationed in Germany while in the Army. I bought an Opel GT (looked like a mini Vette) while I was over there. One of the features was in the turn signal stalk. With the ignition off, you could put the stalk in left or right "turn mode" and the front and rear signal lamps would stay on. They would act as markers for the car in darker areas. Mine were fairly bright so they really got the attention of passing drivers. The car also had a rear fog lamp that was much brighter than the tail lights for driving in foggy areas. Couple of good ideas we could use on our cars here.

Also, Mazda has a set of those in their headlights in the high beam area if I'm not mistaken. They are on whenever the lights are on and gives a nice little output that complements the lights nicely. IIRC it is the Mazda 6?

I think they also are able to stay on when/if your bulb blows so that people don't think you're a motorcycle.

im guessing you can expect about 600. if they are less than that i would be surprised, and i dont think they will be tons more if they are indeed more.

i dont expect a product until at least SEMA, when they said they would be back IIRC.

Will we end up buying them from this group buy. Or will they just let us know when we can get them from morette. Or will we have to go through a third party distributor

as far as i know there wont be a "group buy" as such but it will just be announced that they are ready to sell the units. i am sure that there will be 3rd party distributors that will buy up a lot of these lights to sell to people that arent on the sites. there are contour owners that arent on the ceg?

look for an update very very soon.

Because I have money thats why! I put an extra $1000 in savings so that I could get these without spending the current savings. There is like a 1% change it will be more, and I think thats pushing it even.

haha yeah I use to have a 800 dollar spending pillow, but now that i'm going to school, there really isn't a pillow and its all going towards that. kinda sad though because I thought maybe they'd be around 300, but 600 is no where near what i'd pay. I would go buy headers first.
Posted By: foldthecorners Re: morettes fitted - 07/06/05 02:34 PM
I know there hasn't been a price posted for these yet,, but I see that we are talking probably over $500 right?

Maybe it's just me, but that seems like way too much for some headlights. These headlights are probably worth that much, but still, like the other poster said.. I'd buy some headers. Atleast they'll do something for your car other than just look good.

It's just you.

Dayum folks, this car has been out of production for 5 (FIVE!) years and a company is stepping up to manufacture a kickass part that is nominally more than you'd pay for FoMoCo lights at the dealer. Do you see anyone else making lights for this car?

Just STFU about pricing already. It is what it is and we should be happy Morette has taken up this venture for what will surely be MINIMAL profit.

Don't know if anyone has brought this up already but, while these lights do look amazing, I'm wondering just how well they will hold up to paint chips, rocks, etc. I'd hate to paint them and then have to re-paint every couple of months. If only there was a lens on the outside that covers the entire housing, they would be perfect.

Is there a lense on the outside of your front bumper and hood? I'd be more worried about repainting an entire bumper(~$300) or hood(~$150) than a headlight(~$50).

That would work for lights I guess... but it doesn't shine up that well. I had a friend that had it on his mazda 3, as a clear bra and even after a wax it didn't shine like the rest of the car

no not really its compairing headlights w/ headlights and which ones were designed properly. It has nothing to do with the cars themselves.

you should be thankful that someone is even making these....there are no aftermarket lights for this car besides the ebay crap.....if you dont like them or dont think they are a good idea then dont buy them....its as simple as that.

yes, really.

contour=car that has been out of prodction for 5 years, and was a $15-24K car at the time.

c6 corvette=brand new production, and $50K car.

don't get me started on the ferarri.

plus, these are @$500 aftermarket headlamp assemblies, not oem at near supercar levels (go price them out if you would like to compare).

Not designed properly? Give me a f***in break! Until YOU come out with, or find a company to produce a better set, STFU! A lot of people(including myself) like the look of the Morettes, and the recessed lenses. But honestly, take a look at the lights, look really hard! How much painted surface is there to get rock chips? Not a lot! So like I said, if you get enough rock chips to require repainting them, you're out ~$50 or less. But if you want to tailgate every car to the point that you get THAT many rock chips, you deserve it anyway.

Not 100% sure, but I would suspect on Corvette and Ferrari, those covers serve much more of an aerodynamic purpose than a paint protection one. Kind of how the old Jag E types had covers over their lenses.

If only there was a lens on the outside that covers the entire housing, they would be perfect.

I wonder if clear GTS light covers would fit???????

Actually that's a good idea. Wouldn't be something I would do but it might work. Wonder if they still make clear ones for the Contour.

i will be painting the housings if they arent sent to me already painted. i will be reporting everything good and bad about the lights as i run around with them on the car. i will also be doing a tour of meets in the midwest so that you guys can see them in person.

you got it.
Posted By: warmonger_dup1 Re: morettes fitted: update - 07/10/05 02:38 PM
Think the old lens covers from our old headlights could be put over them?
Nevermind, most everyones will be fogged over anyway. I love the look of the morettes and I don't want to buy new OEM lenses every three years. THat is mainly why I want to buy these.
Posted By: warmonger_dup1 Re: morettes fitted: update - 07/10/05 02:41 PM
Mike,

Where are you going to be? Actually, if you are passing anywhere close to Alabama, Mississippi, or near there, let see if you can make one or two stops.
I'll buy your coke for you!
I really want to see them in person. Also, is it too late to get in on whatever initial list of group buy you made? I realize that I may have to wait and buy them later at full price but I'm really interested if someone backs out and assuming the price isn't outrageous.

Hey Mike, are you going to b stopping by our sept. 3 big bash?
Posted By: m!key Re: morettes fitted - 07/10/05 03:31 PM
hey tom i dont think there will necessarily be a group buy as we know group buys. the product is already being made without any investment from us. i posted this in the group buy section because it is a new product development and there is less turn over in threads in this section than, lets say, the pics and vids section. everyone will be paying the same price and i dont know what that price is going to be yet. when they are released everyone gets a pair that wants one.

How long you have owned a vehicle isn't the only indicator of being a noob.
