My 3rd gear started grinding(when shifting into gear) two days ago,the tranny only has 67k miles on it
I can live with it like that but will it get worest and the whole tranny gone
95sev6 5speed
Mine's been doing that forever. Now it's doing it in 4th gear as well.
I've discovered a secret, when shifting into 3rd or 4th, hold the clutch in and before putting it in gear, just wait about a 1/10 a second then put it in gear, that works for me.
When you're running hard and smashing through the gears it's hard to remember to do that (I still grind all the time) But that moment's hesitation will prolong the synchro's for a little longer.
change the fluid in the trans...
my mystique had a slight grinding noise when shifting in to second in the cold weather, or sometimes when the trans was cold. so far new fluid and friction modifier have doen the trick, will see how it goes this winter.
the grinding is the syncronizer for third gear is blown i have the same problem with second gear and the thing is everytime you grind the gear is is destroying the gear itself so eventualy you will have to rebuild the tranny my suggestion is either get it rebuilt now or dont use the gear as much as possible untill you can get the tranny rebuilt
or you can double clutch...put the stick in nuetral position...give it some gas...and then shift into gear...that would work wouldn't it
if you shift from 2nd gear to 3rd gear at low RPMs you wont grind it...when I'm high on the RPM band of if I tach my car out it grinds really bad. I highly reccomend a tranny fluid change and adding slick50 trans treatment really does wonders!
I hope mine will last for a long time, cause I'm not in any position for any type of tranny rebuild.
