G'Morning

I understand that the a/c and heat blowing through the defrost only is a common problem with the contours. Could someone please post any recall numbers at this site to assist us having this problem. Right now my mechanic is telling me its about $800.00 for the work to fix this problem. Much appreciated. ~£ãçý~

Welcome onboard.

Had you reviewed the FAQ section on home page you would have seen this info air blows from defrost .

If that is not the cause then checking vacuum reservoir (pass side footwell) or engine vacuum hoses/connections is usually the next step.

You might want to try another mechanic or dealer since a one hour diagnostic charge would be reasonable to determine cause, not $800.

Thank you for your suggestion but the problem with my contour has nothing to do with a leak in the vacuum hose under the dash. If you refer to TSB 97-15-4 that explains the problem. Now Im not that knowledgable about cars but in lay mans ( womans ) terms there is an arm that is connected to some kind of box in the heating system. The arm commonly breaks, and the part is not available from Ford, you are required to buy the entire heating system thing, which costs $450.00 canadian and about $350.00 labor. Im wondering if anyone is aware of a recall on this ( as previously suggested ). Thank you for your help. ~Lacy~

Not familiar with that TSB, nor do I have access to them, but am also not aware that actuator arms (rods) from vacuum motors to plennum doors have been a problem, other than cases when rod has been accidently knocked off.

Perhaps you could be more specific or quote from the TSB. Not aware of any recalls for this item on my cars. Going to a dealer with your VIN best way to check outstanding recalls on your car.

Removal of heating system behind dash is of course a major job. Replacement part from wrecker always a possibility.

Please provide car info.
