Hey,
I need to recalibrate my tach and need to know what the average normal idle is in rpms (500, 1000). Also, could you let me know roughly where the tach should read at 65 mph on cruise so I can double check. I recently removed the needle and it now seems a bit low.
Thanks!

My idle is about 800-850. IIRC, I think 70 mph is about 3000.

Thanks, I think the 95s are different than the rest of the years (according to the Chilton Book - 800 rpm). My wife's Duratec idles at 1000 rpm. I guess it would also have to be an automatic to get an accurate reading for my car too. The 95 MTX is slightly higher (880) according to the book.

700-800 is perfectly normal for a Zetec engine...the Duratecs idle is a little different because of the different setup the intake/exhaust system has that the Zetec does not. Typically the Duratec idles slightly higher from what I've seen.

With 2 more cylinders the duratec should idle lower than the zetec.

My duratec idles at 750 rpm (used to be 550rpm)
My zetec idles around 850-900 rpm.
Both are MTX.
