I got a 95 model SE 24valve v6,with a 5 speed the car idles smooth, but when accelerating it stutters till you hit about 3000 r.p.m. then it smooths out, it only does this once you get it past about quarter throttle( does fine puttin around in traffic) .also it quits makin all that monsterous power at about 4700 rpm , is that normal? i thought that these motors pulled harder the farther they wound up .

sorry to here about your problem. Mine was doing the same for 3 weeks. my #3 and #6 plug wires were shot. Changed the wires, feul filter and checked the plugs - plugs needed replacing as well. Everything works great now. Hopefully you'll find the problem soon.
hopefully that will do it by the way the CEL is not on ,but this car does have 147,000 miles and i don,t know when the last time plugs or wires were changed, by the way sorry for the post this question has been answered about 1000 times in the archives . I just figured out there was a archive though !!newbie goof !! Thanks for the help
welcome to ceg!!! i have a 95 se but im stuck with the atx ...as was said try the plugs and wires..if that doesn't work try to have your catalytic conv checked it could be dying now and plugging up your exhaust

with that mileage u have im also betting that your car could use a throttle body cleaning and if u're mechanically inclined it would be a good idea to remove and clean the upper and lower intake manifolds...check the how-to section

glad to have u aboard
I also advise you to check the IMRC system. If the linkage from the dashpot is extended when at idle, the engine will run considerably worse below 3000-3500 RPM. This could cause the stutter or make an existing problem worse.
The vacuum solenoid which controls the dashpot is prone to dying although sometimes the linkages just fall off.
i put my snapon computer up to it yesterday an the only code i got was for an out of range ect or eot ,do ya,ll think that would cause the problem . I know on early 90's 3.0 an 3.8 motors it will ,But i don,t know about these motors
Lowhung, did you get the PM I sent you?
It's about the secondary linkage...
the durn linkage was broke!!! junky plastic @!#$ . Thanks for the help everyone
Check the wires and plugs, too. I had a stutter/hesitation a while back that cleared up at 3K rpm. Verdict: Plug wire #1 had popped off slightly after I had changed the plugs a couple of weeks before.

Check them!

uh ooh!!!!!!!! more problems then the linkage being off . I think i,m missing some parts here !?!? is there some sort of elctronic peice or vacuum peice with a cable that pulls this imrc open ? Is there any schematics out there so i can get a real good look at what i,m supposed to have ( i work at a car lot and we got this car in a 6 car package for 3,000 bucks for whole the package, so my boss sold me it for his price AS_IS ). I figurerd for the price i could fix a few problems an have me a nice lil tour!!!
If it would help I could try to take a picture of the IMRC on my car. It consists of a vacuum actuator and two linkage rods on our cars. When I bought mine one of the bushings that holds the linkage rod was missing and the engine had no top end.
that would help me in a major way .
photo coming
I have a picture but could not figure out how to insert it in a post. If you post your email, I'll send it to you. I do know how to do that.
I am having the same dang problem... My tour has 152,000 miles on it and has been running like crap for about 3 weeks too.

It starting acting up 4 days before I was going to drive from Wisconsin to Florida! 2 days before I went to Florida, I drove from WI to the middle of Indiana to pick up my dual exhaust from Mark Knox's svt and had troubles all the way there and back (about 650 miles).

I went to Florida with it anyway (1300+ miles)... While we were there I changed the fuel filter, air filter, plugs, and was still unsucessful. I then took it to a dealer and they ran *2* Diagnostics and all they told me is that cylinder #4 was dead... SO TELL ME WHAT THE HELL THAT MEANS!!

They said change the spark plugs - they would do it for $120 added to the $140 for the diagnostics!! I only had $220 in the bank and in my pocket combined!!

We went to autozone and got some wires and changed them in the parking lot... RAN WORSE!!

I said F**k It, and we drove back to Wisconsin (another 1300+ miles) just to have to deal with the problem all the way there.

My friend was with me and he has a honda civic... The whole time he was saying, "I told ya to buy a HONDA!" All that was doing was pissing me off...

ANYWHO... Just this past weekend some valve blew off the back of the engine because something got plugged and I lost all acceleration just about. It was like driving in 5th gear all the time!

I put a new ignition coil in, put the duals on, put my svt trunk lid on in place of my 95 lid, gutted my plugged up cat (now a straight pipe), and got that hose reattached. The car ran really great until I decided to go home with it. About half way there the dang thing started acting up again - NOW I FOUND THIS ON THE CEG SITE AND I AM GOING TO REPLACE MY PLUG WIRES WITH GOOD ONES!!

Thanks guys/girls on the info and I will post an update!

The vacuum actuator and the secondary linkage are circled. This is under the throttle body. The water pump pulley is the blurred arc on the left. The fuel line and (gunky) PCV is under the red circle.

Thanks for the pic, but I don't know what your trying to show me with it.... R U trying to show the secondary linkage? OR the area where my hose was blown off?? JOE
Secondary linkage.

The other side of the actuator shown, there is a vaccum line which supplies the necessary vacuum to pulled the secondaries shut. They are open by default when the engine is off. You should see this acutator, with a hose attaching to it from the firewall side, and the linkage coming out towards the front of the car to the LIM.

-Lance
So would you suggest changing the secondary linkage or go with the new plug wires? I have wires in the mail and should be here in a day or 2... I will let you know what happens with the new wires. Thanks, JOE
The secondary linkage is not a maintenance item. Nothing should happen to it over time.

I posted the pic for lowhungSE so he could know what the parts looked like.

This sounds much like clogged cats and the DPFE line blowing off - if this is the case you will have to gut (clean out the insides) or replace the precats and check the main cat.
Dude could you snap one a lil farther out it would really help , just so i can make sure ;But i do beleive that my whole dang vacuum accuator piece and linkage are missing. LOL that might represent a problem hehe
I gutted out the cat so now it is a straight pipe... I reconnected the hose - car ran good after that.
It was still stuttering on acceleration until 3000-3500 rpms though!
I have replaced or fixed:
-the hose thing
-plugs
-wires
-coil
-fuel filter
-air filter
-oil change
-gutted cat
-put svt duals on
*WHAT ELSE IS THERE!!
MABEY:*
-new o2 sensors
-new exhaust headers
-new Y pipe
-timing belt? (not sure what that does)
????????

Does anyone have any other ideas!?!?!
THANKS A MILLION - JOE
IT WAS THE PLUG WIRES - #1 WAS ARCING... THANKS GUYS/GIRLS - JOE
I have the same prob with my 95 mystique but it only has 61K on it. It is the v6 too. I thought it was normal. Boy I dont know what is wrong
