I had a post about this a week ago, but I haven't been able to get the problem resolved, so I am reposting. The problematic car is my '96 2.5L MTX Contour. After my UIM/LIM rebuild, I have been getting a code for my IAC. I lost the Code but I believe it was P1506 (Idle Air Control overspeed) or something. I replaced the IAC 2 twice since then and I am getting the same code. My engine likes to idle close to 2000k. I don't know what to do next. Should I replace my TPS? The IAC gasket it practically brand new, but I could throw some gasket sealant on it to make sure it isn't leaking through the gasket... which I highly doubt.

Any ideas!?!?

Thanks,

Previous thread

Scan it again and post the correct code.

Did you buy a new IAC gasket or did the old one look "practically brand new"?

I just had a buddy scan it and it is in fact P1506 Idle Air Control overspeed. The gasket that I had on the car looked fine, but I had a spare one laying around that looked perfect and I honestly can't remember where it came from. I remember being told that is was "practically brand new." The car throws the code with both gaskets anywho (and yes I reset the PCM). I just didn't want to order the gasket from Ford and wait a week for it to come it. Can I just buy the stuff that forms its own gasket and not even use the IAC gasket!?!?

Thanks.

u can get the gasket at any auto store. it'll be listed as "throttle body air bypass gasket" if they cant find it as iac gasket. bring one of the old ones u have just to compare the shape to the new one.

Are there no Ford/Mercury dealers in SE Michigan?
Go to a dealer, pick up a IAC valve gasket and a Throttle body gasket. Change the IAC valve gasket. If that does not take care of the problem, then clean the TB and put in a new TB gasket too.

TB cleaning and install a new gasket when done.

Thanks guys... but if I go to the dealer, won't I have to wait for them to ship it!??! Is it possible that they keep them in stock?

Thanks again.

Some will. And if they don't, they will usually be able to tell you who within town or the next town has it in stock.
