I have a 98 contour i have spent alot of money on it. The major problem i have is the battery light comes on and off. Most of the time it is on. I have checked all ground and hot connections. I have had the alt. checked I have replaced the belt...and battery. Also the car has got to the point wher you can be driving and it will just shut off all the lights on the dash will come on. It will restart with no problems..and drive on. It seems to be worse when we run the a/c. it does idle a little funny also we have changed the air and gas filters does anybody have a clue?

if the battery light is on it 90% of the time means the alternator isn't charging/working

and if you have foglights, check the connectors at the fog lights and check Fuse 5 in the Power Distribution Box next to the battery.

problem I just solved, check tension on the belt. even a new belt, if the tensioner's shot then your accessories will be, how to say, unhappy.

You will usually hear a belt screeching sound in the morning (when it is humid) if the tensioner is bad.

usually and from my experience that means you need an alternator buddy. There may be a quicker fix, but the cure all fix for that problem is the alternator.

"Off topic alert". RawBurt, need to finalize a name before 8-17-06 or you will be known as BatteryLight

Now, back on topic.

Also check megafuse if the battery light is constantly lit.

This is what the megafuse looks like.

It appears that the Zetec I4 megafuse might be in the same location as the Duratec V6.

And if you haven't done so, download an Owners' Manual (free) www.fleet.ford.com

Where is the MEGA FUSE located? I have to check that myself to get my lights working.
