Scenario:

Driving on highway, car started making rattling sound from engine bay. Pulled off highway and car quickly overheated. Parked car and had towed to my home. Now the car will not start. Any ideas?

Anything amiss in the engine bay? Open up duratec cover and check condition of the WP belt/pulley/tensioner. Also check serpentine belt on the other side.

If you can get a hold of a scanner, scan for CEL codes and post.

Won't start is (1) cranks and engine turns over but will not fire up or (2) will not crank and engine does not turn over at all

Turns over, but sounds kind of rough doing so.

Suspect headgasket.

Do the el cheap headgasket test.

Fill antifreeze to the brim on recovery tank (leave cap off). Remove all spark plug wires. Remove all but one spark plug and have someone crank the engine. If the antifreeze bubbles over, there is leak from that portion of the engine (or cylinder). If not, go to the next cylinder, and then the next.... Note, it could be more than one area or more than one cylinder.

Maybe you should get the water pump checked out.

check your oil dipstick to see if there are any water bubbles on it. if there are water bubbles on it then your headgasket is probably toast.

That was my first thought, but I would think the car would start (and quickly overheat) with the waterpump blown.
