Anyone have a listing of airbag codes? If so, what's code 32?

I recently installed a tilt steering column in my car and have triggered this code.

Thanks.

Probably the clockspring was damaged... How's your horn and the cruise system?

You know what... I didn't try either of them. I don't want to accidentally trigger the airbag, so I'm waiting to see what the code is before I start playing with "stuff".

Quote:

Pinpoint Tests â?? Air Bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)

PINPOINT TEST J: : LFC 32/DTC B1932 - DRIVER AIR BAG CIRCUIT RESISTANCE HIGH

Note:
Normal Operation. The restraint control module (RCM) monitors the resistance for the driver air bag ignitor by measuring the resistance between Pins 3 and 4. If the RCM detects high resistance between these pins, it will store a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B1932 in its memory and flash a lamp fault code (LFC) 32 (or higher priority code if one exists) on the air bag indicator.

Note:
Possible Causes. Driver air bag high resistance can be caused by:- a poor connection or corrosion in the driver air bag module circuits or the air bag sliding contact.- an open circuit or high resistance in the air bag sliding contact windings.- an open circuit or high resistance in the wiring harness.- an open circuit or high resistance in the driver air bag module.- an RCM internal fault.
?² J1: RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCS FROM BOTH CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST
?² J2: CHECK THE DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE
?² J3: CHECK THE DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE CIRCUIT
?² J4: CHECK THE CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE AIR BAG SLIDING CONTACT C21 AND RCM C20
?² J5: CHECK FOR AN INTERMITTENT FAULT
?² J6: CHECK FOR ADDITIONAL DTCS

The replacement comlumn, escpecially if it was used, likely came with a broken clockspring. It could also have been damaged if the steering wheel have been rotated too many times from the spring's "neutral" position.

Try the horn and the cruise. Those features also utilize the clockspring and often also fail when the clockspring ciruit opens (depends on exact failure mode).

What Steve means is to press the horn and see if it works and drive and turn on the cruise control to see if it works.
He doesn't mean for you to open up the horn or cruise assembly (not yet anyway ).

Thanks for the diagnostic Steve.

I did try the horn and it's OK, but didn't try the cruise yet.

I'll keep digging and keep you informed.

I'm also having a similar problem - airbag light flashing (haven't checked for a code yet), horn and cruise control also not working. This implies the clockspring ciruit is opened? What kind of fix does this require? Thanks.

The horn and cruise share a common ciruit path with part of the airbag circuit. If all three have faults, it is a strong liklihood that the clockspring is the fault.

I seem to recakk that replacement instructions have been posted previously. I'm on a slooooow connection today, so I'm not going to to the SEARCH.

There are other things besides the clockspring that can cause the AIRBAG light to flash a code sequence, but the clockspring is a pretty common failure. Count your flash sequences so you can determine what the code is.

Yes, it is a 32 code (3 flashes, pause, then 2 flashes).

I've searched this forum in both the current and archived, but could not locate any previously posted clockspring replacement instructions. I'd appreciate if someone could point me to them. Thanks.

Urrrgggg....my apologies, I forgot to change the Date Range parameter on the search. Yeah there are alot of threads discussing this topics. Thanks much!
