Hey all-

What would you recommend using to get the headlight covers on my 98 SE Duratec back to the original clear? They have yellowed with oxidation over time and I'd like to get them back to as close to new as possible. I used a little bit of fine cut cleanser on them and that cut out a small amout of the oxidation, but I still think I can do better.

Thanks for your help.

what worked for me was a buffer and pad with a little purple power. put the purple power on and let it sit about 5 min then use the buffer to get it clean.mine look new i think the buffer gets in the cracks better than anything else to pull out the dirt.

I have been working on mine for a while now, here and there. I just did a second pass on Satruday night. I got a kit at an Auto Parts store. It has some sheets of high grit sandpaper, and some polish. I started with the 1000, went to 1500, 2000 then 2500, wet sanding. Then finished with the liquid polish. I didn't work hard enough on it the first time, it was improved but not quite right. It looks MUCH better after I spent a good hour on them Saturday. I may need one more time concentrating in certain areas.

Then I will protect them in the future with regluar waxings.

Do a search, there are several products/methods that have been covered. The best and lasting solution is to buy new ones and apply wax on a regular basis. They will cost you about $205.00 a set, shipping included.

I used 1500 and 2000 wet sanding techniques and then finished it off with Meguiars "Plas-X" polish with an orbital (not a rotary) polisher....they look quite good now

What is "purple power" and where do you get it?
