I have a 96 Zetec, with in the last couple of weeks it tends to idle around 1500 or so, I tried cleaning the throttle body, i cleaned the IAT, and the MAFS. any clues here guys? It would be fine if i was gonna spend my day at the track, but it sucks how i can ride in 3rd gear at 35 mph and not even touch the gas.

Is the check engine light on?

Try pulling the connector to the iac valve. I would suspect it is stuck. You can clean it with good results using brake cleaner.

Sounds like the IAC valve.....how many miles do you have on the car.....you might want to replace it then try cleaning it.....it is a real PITA to get to.

Would you quit [censored] complaiing about how hard it is to get to in every post that there is about it? If it is so hard than take it to a shop for god sakes, just stop your complaining!

Lol HitMan, he does have a good point about these cars being hard to work on at home. I don't think it's a problem with just these Ford cars though. There is all this new pressure to build cars with better gas miles, less noise, better crash results and all of this makes less room.

If I had the money I'd dig up an older car that holds a V8-Hime and have the engine overhauled while putting in an all new wire harness system and the works. I mean if you could put in your own engine would you put in a Zetec?
