Who here knows how hot a Zetec engine should be when the fan turns on? Damn mitchell does not have the answer...

I knew that info at one time. It should be posted somewhere in the archives, but I can't remember where. I do know that there are two fan speeds. I'm going to make a guess about the exact temp. I think the first fan turns on somewhere around 200-205, and runs until the temp gets down to around 190-195 or so. If the temp gets hotter, let's say 210-215, the high speed fan should turn on, and run until the temp drops down to around 200-205 or so, at which point the low speed should take over. Don't hold me to these temps, but I'm somewhere close.

We had mine hooked to the OBDII and my fan came on @ 211 IIRC. Cruiseing temp was 199 and that was the M. 211 was at the high end of L. Bearing in mind everyones guage is surely different.

I got 213 when I noticed the Scanner tool say the Low Speed fan enabled.... wonder how i can make it turn on at somewhere around 190 F...

Was that your LOW speed cooling fan? I've owned my Tour since Dec 03, it's staring to warm up now and seeing the Temp guage creep toward the L while sitting in city traffic is terrifying. I thought I had a problem with low speed cooling fan (maybe there is) because of the high temp but I have tested by jumping Pins 3 and 5 on the fan relay, fan powered up, unless there is a problem with my Coolant Temp Sens
High temp fan works as well, tested by unpluging Coolant Temp Sens. Still unsure if the AUTO mode is working.

On an HIJACKING note , I know the low speed fan should come on when the AC is engaged, mine dosen't but my AC is not working either. Question is if the AC is not working because of AC system charge well the low speed fan still activate when you take your HVAC to MAX AC?

Thanks

Now back to our regular scheduled program.

Well, I was having that problem, I wanted to be safe and hooked my contour up to the school's Snap-On Scanner tool, was monitoring the progess of the engine temp, and fans, After my needle hit about L, thats when the engine temp was around 210 F, I wanted to be safe to know that it actually wasnt an electrical problem, or overheating problem

I believe the high speed fan turns on with the A/C, but no, the fan will not turn on unless the a/c system is functionally correctly. If you have no a/c refrigerant or no a/c system, the fan will not turn on in relation to the HVAC settings.
