I was thinking last night and I've had the Tour for 6 years now. Got it in April 1998 with 40K (now 85K) on the odometer, was a fleet car. I remember looking for Contours (back then there wasn't a lot of cool sedans like today). Had my eye on a blue zetec. Glad I went with the one I got.

Had it's problems:
Waterpump
Heater fan resistor
Bad front sway bar links (replaced twice)
99MO3 wiring recall
New cats
Replacment radiator fans
New ball joints (KC roads suck)
IRMC linkage clips replaced (thanks CEG for that insight!)

Wrecked her once, not too bad. She'll need a new fuel pump & wheel bearings soon. Plus tires & struts.

New cars sure are looking better every day and I'm really thinking of getting something new. But I think I'll keep the Contour. They won't give me squat on a trade and besides, she's long since paid off and always gets me from A to B.

How long have you had yours?

You know it MAY have been 30K. I know it wasn't 20K. I'll have to check my records again. That's a good observation. I know I drive more than 7500 a year!!

Since August 2000. She's gotten her share of love, all 75,000 miles of it. Picked her up for about $7500 with 55k on the odometer, now she's passing 123k miles, and she still purs like the day I bought her

I ordered it brand new in October 98 (I think) and picked it up at the dealer in January 99. It had 11 miles on it because they took it for a test drive. Now it has about 63,000 miles and its finally paid off.

I got mine in Sept 1997 with about 17,500 miles on it--it was a fleet or lease return. And I paid it off over a year ago!

Oh, I have have about 119,500 miles on it now.
Posted By: MysticFreak Re: I've had my Tour for 6 years! - 03/11/04 06:22 PM
I've had mine for three years and I love her more than when I first bought her. She still looks great ...people often ask me if she's new. Oh, and she's almost up to 80k. She's aging better than I am!
Posted By: Contourgirl_dup1 Re: I've had my Tour for 6 years! - 03/11/04 06:36 PM
I've had mine since November 1997, and she had 40,000 miles.
Now she is pushing 200,000 miles. By next week she'll be there.
So I was only able to put on 160,000 miles, the first 40,000 was by someone else.
Posted By: abwamo_dup1 Re: I've had my Tour for 6 years! - 03/11/04 06:41 PM
since may 1998.
she had 108k kms back then. now 250k kms and she's still ticking, well after 2 heart transplants.

Traded it in for the '00, have had 2.5 yrs.

I think Lance K. ,the site owner, has had his '95 for 9 years now, anyone else have an original 1995 since new?

Parents bought with 24K miles shortly before I registered on this site in 2001. I drove it daily till August '02, when my sister took over. Now my dad drives it daily and I get it on weekends or certain occassions, such as this week for spring break. Almost 56K now, which yields approximately 10K miles a year (slightly biased since it got driven a lot less this past year). We're coming up on the anniversary of ownership as well as you.

Bought New in 12/14/99 1999 CSVT T-Red #410

So its been 52 months and 51,000 miles.

No major issues outside of a broken shift tower, warped dash, and a few paint flaws all fixed under warranty.

Deferred maintenace is starting to rack up tho

Btw, out of curiousity who has the lowest mileage on here? I know this thread has been established in the past, but I'm too lazy to go search for it; if anyone has it on the top of their head

Damn that was hard.
Laziness will get you nowhere.

Ordered February '97. Picked up with less than 10 miles on the clock in March of '97. 70,000 Miles right now. Way too many recalls. Couldn't start it one morning after my wife ran it for about 30 seconds the day before without warmup. Towed. New waterpump as a precaution @ 45K. Panel dimmer went. Front wheel bearing went. Couldn't fill the tank for a while because of flapper valve problem. Hit twice in rear bumper. Waiting for new main cat to arrive to be replaced under warranty. Car is getting rattles and squeeks. Rear suspension always made funny noises. Moosing. O2 sensor died. Shifter feels like tranny is packed with crushed ice!

But... Hasn't used a drop of oil. 23MPG over life of the car. Usually runs like a top! I guess I like it!
Posted By: perry_dup1 Re: I've had my Tour for 6 years! - 03/12/04 04:13 AM
Bought it in June of 97 with about 20k miles on it. It was made in March of 96.

Re: the original post's comment about how there are more "cool looking sedans" available today: I disagree. The 'Tour/'Stique is much cleaner than just about any sedan you can buy. Just park next to a Mazda 6, BMW 3 series, Volvo S60, Nissan Altima, Subaru WRX, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, you name it. Compare the proportions of the hood and truck, the fender lines, the overall sleekness. Other sedans are clumsy-looking boxes compared to our cars. The only non-exotic sedan I will maybe possibly consider as a having lines better than a Contour: the Mercedes S500 . That's why most of us still own our 'Tours; they are dang hard to replace.

I didn't say anything about today. In 98 when I bought the car there wasn't a whole lot I like THEN.

Today's style seems to be a messy jumble on a lot of cars. Have you seen the Maxima? Seen it's interior? YIKES

You know, I was just bringing up this point with my wife the other day. My car is 8 years old, and it needs some new suspension parts.

My first car was an 8 year old 74 Capri. The body was rusted through, all of the front suspension and steering linkages had lost their dust boots and were subsequently shot, and the drive shaft u-joints were bad, as well. The seats were cracked, too.

Nothing old about these cars.

Since Oct. '03 from 34k to about 41.5k. I wanted somthing smaller than my SUV for gas milage, but still fun and can hall some stuff, you know college life. The sight of the gold "Sport" caught my eye on the lot and the spoiler said GO. Once I test drove the Duratech manual, the power gadgets and moonroof made me want it. It didn't hurt that I was raised to love Fords.

Got mine Last November with 44k, it has 50k on it right now. I bought it, and almost immediately had to put it away for the winter

Hopefully I learn to love it again when I start driving it shortly...as it is, I picked up a '91 SHO+ as a parts car for another project of mine, but I've been driving that now, and I can say I like it more than the 'tour at this point
Posted By: joverhiser Re: I've had my Tour for 6 years! - 03/16/04 02:19 PM
I got mine new in april 1997, now it has 139k on the odo.

o2 sensor
imrc
2 water pumps (one broken impeller and one leaky seal)
