So these 3 options have been running through my head. Thoughts, suggestions... comments...

What to do?
Sell the SVT and buy turbo'd car
3L and maybe turbo the SVT
Keep the SVT as is

Posted By: OneSlowSVT99 Re: What to do? - 08/28/06 04:58 PM
keep it.

SVT's are becoming less and less common and hopefully someday will be something worth value

I'm kind of facing the same thing.
Keep it as is for a DD, save some cash, then decide what to get as a "fun car".

Recently I have been seriously considering selling mine too, but then my rear subframe broke. I couldnt resist the urge to mod the hell out of the rear suspension, so now I guess Im going to keep it for a while. Meh, we'll see. Shes probably got another year in her for me AFAIC.

I have decided that Im going to stop being such a puss with it and finally start to track/autox with it.

If your SVT is running in 15-20 years and has less than 50,000 miles, then maybe, but I wouldn't bet on it.

If you want something that is fast then get something that can actually put the power down to the ground.

Right, if I sell the SVT... I have a pretty good idea of what will be next. And NO, it won't be an evo/ sti.

Also, I'd like to know what people are voting for the second option?

Show me WTF I told anyone to make a decision for me? I'm not asking for decision, I'm seeing how others feel as well. If that was supposed to be a joke, then how about you put a smilie at the end.

I see this mentioned quite a bit. I think it's a mistake for its possible collectors status to be a factor in purchasing a SVT Contour.

A $10k car (what you can find a nice SVT for) is probably not worth the cost of storing and maintaining for 20 years out of hope that it will one day be worth more. Merely owning a car generates overhead that over 20 years will negate its possible appreciation.

I'm not saying nobody should collect and maintain SVT Contours for 20+ years, but it should be out of the love of the vehicle, not it's unlikely status as a collector's item.

Bravo!

Think about this for a second. The Yugo. Back in the '80s, dealerships couldn't GIVE this car away. I specifically remember a Denver dealer doing a buy one-get one. Buy a car and get a Yugo FREE. Now one of these in decent shape can bring as much as 3-4 thou on ebay. It just goes to show that you never know what people will be willing to pay and for what. That said, I still wouldn't have bought/taken one back then, even knowing there would be a demand some 20 years later.

Keep the car or don't. Just don't expect it to be worth more than you can get for it this minute. Next year it'll probably be worth less, and the year after even less. If you want to sell, I'd do it now while there seems to be a decent market for clean SVTCs. Only go the 3.0L route if you're planning on keeping the car till the wheels fall off. Not worth it as an investment, only for the love of the ride.

i voted for #2

if youve got the money...and the knowhow, then id deffinatly go for the 3L turbo. these cars impress and suprize people as it is, and they are cool cars to boot...just my 2 cents.

That's because I'm not in a smiling mood.

And you've had posts on here about which wheels you should get, what you should do with the Camaro, which guy you should date, etc...

Here's your smilie..

Posts like this come up all the time. If you don't like me asking for fellow CEG'ers advice then don't reply to the posts. Your mother should have taught you, "If you dont have anything nice to say, then dont say anything at all."

I pretty much tell everyone this who considers selling their Contique.

If you've ever thought of selling it. Do it and just get it over with.
How many times have you talked about selling it and then held onto it for a little longer, only to go back to thinking of selling again?
You've wasted a bunch of your own time IMO.
Sell it and stop the endless cycle.

And DEFINITELY don't hold onto a car just because you like the enthusiast's site. Also, don't sell a car just because you hate the enthusiast's site (I've seen this happen on the Cougar boards and it still makes me laugh my ass off at how pathetic that is).

I'll be keeping it to myself, until the time comes. It'll be hard to find.
