Okay, so my foglights started working randomly, just before Spring Zing this year. I'd turn them on, and I'd hear a zapping type sound from behind the light switch. So I bought the lightswitch Hector had laying around. That wasn't it. So I dug a little further. Started playing around with the wiring with the foglight switch, set to the on position(pulled out). I'd hear some more zapping with the more I moved the wires. I finally grabbed this white fuse that was in it's connector. It really started zapping, and I could feel the static vibration through my fingers. Here is a picture of the fuse that I pulled out. Is this only to the foglights? Could anyone tell me what all this fuse controls?

Here is what it says on the fuse:

I believe that's a relay not a fuse.

According to the 1996 Ford CD, there are only three White Relays. DRL, Low beam and High beam

Hmmm. My headlights still turn on though. Haven't checked my highbeams, but I'm sure they work. It's only when I would try turning my foglights on, that it would start making a zapping noise. When I finally got my hands on it tonight, and pressed the relay into it's harness, it went apesh*t!! So I pulled the relay out. Put it back in to see if it'd do the same thing, and now it doesn't do anything. I think it's completely shot.

I'm pretty sure it is related to your foglights. If I have to make a guess, I would say high beam. The high beam goes out when you turn on the foglights.

Well Tony, you made me run out to my garage to find out! Well, the highbeams........ still turn on!

BUT!!! I do have the foglight mod, so maybe it was bypassed? Now this only controls the foglights? Because I believe I can turn on my brights, and the fogs still stay on.

This piqued my interest, so I turned to..........HAYNES.

Apparently, there are some auxilliary relays (not in the fuse boxes). And R22 is white and it is for Foglights. Unfortunately, it says the location is Interface module bracket (where ever or whatever that is).

Edit. Further down on the 1996 manual, also says that White Relay 22 (outside the Fuse Boxes) is for Foglamps.

If you have done the foglight mod, the high beams will not turn off when the foglights are on.

To answer the question, yes that mini-relay controls only the fog lamp circuit.

Schematic from the ford CD:

That white relay is the long rectangle box. Normally the power wire to trigger that relay requires the low beam to be on and the high beam to be off..that's the stuff on the top left. And finally for the fog light switch to be closed (bottom left) to complete the circuit to trigger the relay. When you do the fog lamp mod all you do is connect 12V pos (top right) to where it goes into the relay on the top left.

Anyway, i guess it's possible the relay failed somehow, but i'd suggest double checking the wiring for the fog lamp mod make sure everything is secure and tight.

Edit...and i'm pretty sure you can get those little relays from some parts stores if needed.

Mark i had the same problem with mine at one point,

Get under the dash and find the 2 wires that are crimped together, take the tape off and make sure they are making good contact or they didnt come loose, I am 100% this is your problem.
