Today, I am lucky to be alive. Today, I am lucky to not be seriously hurt. Today, my Contour died. At around 4:45, I was coming back home from getting a hair cut. I was traveling down roads I have driven through a million times before. It was just another and a good day so far. As I made a turn down a side street I saw a Ford Excursion (or whatever that big damn truck's name is) Coming to a stop sign. I was very close to the stop sign and saw the truck not stop for the sign but keep going into the street. Stupid me, I thought people were supposed to stop for those. By the time I was in the intersection so was he. I layed on my horn but he must have never saw me because he never hit the brakes. I was hit at atleast 30mph but I think it was much faster. The truck nailed me square in between the drivers side front and rear doors. I then was sent spinning around and careening into a light pole. It happened in seconds.

When the car finally stopped thats when I started to get really pissed. I believe, "what the [censored] do you think you're doing came out of my mouth". I was rightfully mad and the guy new that. All he said was, "all my fault". You damn right it was. This guy blew a stop sign didn't look either way and didn't even slow down till after he hit me. I swear, there are too many dumb [censored] drivers out there. So I called my Dad from work and the manager of the McDonalds next door called the cops and an ambulance came to. I asked him why he didn't stop for the stop sign and he became very defensive and pissy saying that he said he was sorry and that it was his fault. Bottom line was I was pissed and rightfully so.

Now for the damage to the car. It is obviously totaled out. entire drivers side is caved in and smashed to [censored]. My passenger side back tire is turned sideways from where I hit the light pole. There is obviously heavy frame damage. Oh yea, there is a crack in the windshield from the frame getting twisted I bet. Rear deck window, and both driver's side windows shattered and the two side mirrors were ripped off. It was sad seeing the tow truck tow my car and listening to that bent tire squeal. I am okay, I went to the ER and got checked out. Just some very light pain in my shoulder and my neck in kinda stiff and sore. I am taking off these next 2 days of work to get everything figured out with my insurance company and getting a loaner car and taking all my belongings out of my beloved Contour. What is really sad is that I just installed Hella Optilux foglights the day before this and just got the angel eyes working 45min before the accident. Isn't that the pits?

Goodbye my friend. I will always remember you..and I will always miss you. R.I.P. 5/95 - 7/11/06

Holy hell. At least you weren't seriously injured. That's all that matters.

That is really all that matters and that is why I am so thankful that I wasn't seriously injured. The car protected me very well.

Glad that you were not hurt.

Cars can be replaced, no matter how special they are. Your life is the most important thing.

Glad to hear you are ok. Sorry about your car!
So your talking about your car? Your car is your "friend"?????

Not a good post to make, plance. You obviously get the gist from reading the post.

Gstone, man.. I am SO glad you are still here to even tell us about it. She did what she was SUPPOSED to do! She protected you.

May you have a speedy recovery from the damage, and from any pain you may have.

Holy hell is right. So what is the driver going to get? Maybe an at fault ticket. Big deal. I'd take that jackass to the cleaners.
Posted By: G Stone Re: Today, I lost a very close friend - 07/12/06 03:23 AM
The cops said that they are going to charge him with either failing to yield to a stop sign or inattentive driving. I was thinking later on that he should atleast get careless driving. Inattentive driving is like blowing a stop sign because they were not paying attention. Careless driving is when you actually hit someone. I am going to the police dept. tomorrow morning to get the police report and to try to get him with careless driving. Dumb ass cops.

Very sorry to hear about the car, but at least your alright!
Drama Queen! Thanks for trivializing the death of a person by referring to a car. It's a car!

I feel your pain.

I had an incident like that many years ago except I made an effort to stop. I had skid marks to witness my good intentions. It was an intersection without a stop sign, and I was on the right.

Because of my effort to stop, I hit him. I got the ticket. The cop said that the other driver must have got to the intersection first and it didn't matter if I was on the right side or not as long as it looked like he entered the intersection first he had the right away.

My advise is to let the cops do their job and just let it alone. No matter what, you will have more trouble moving on with life if you allow yourself to stay emotionally involved.

You're alive and well. Count your blessings and move on with life. You can find another "friend".

First, thank God you are alright, second, people who dont know how to drive should have the firing squad called on them, third, I know how freaky the accident must have been, but the human mind will tend to forget, in time, the extent of the traumatic experience one has gone through. Fourthly, pooor pooor contour. If that happened to my 96 lx I would cry. Damn and its a shame it happened to a first year 95 lx with a 2.5, damn damn damn. Stupid ass retarded careless drivers.

Yea, but that means that his car did it's job. It's been said before and i will say it again...a Contour will be one of the safest cars you will drive. Sorry for your loss, but the 'tour can be replaced. Glad you weren't seriously injured. Time to get an SVT

and don't pay any attention to the people that say it's "just a car." i don't love my car that i have now that much, but i did love my very first car. so i know the feeling
It's always reassuring to hear about how well Contours can take hits. Glad you're OK, sorry to hear about it, though.

You are lucky to be alive.
Posted By: G Stone Re: Today, I lost a very close friend - 07/12/06 02:57 PM
I feel very lucky that my injuries were not more severe. When you see the car I think it looks like someone would have gotten injured in it for sure. I woke up this morning to a stiff neck and a small bruise in the middle of my back, right by my spine. I feel lucky that this is all that happened. I am going to take pictures of the car today and I am going to try to get a copy of the pictures the police took. I will post them on here for sure.

As for another car, I admit, an SVT would be very nice and is very tempting to me but I think I am going to stay away from Ford's for awhile. My parents and I have a had some bad luck with their dealerships, cars, and customer service over the last couple years and I think it is time for a change. Today I am going to get insurance quotes on some other cars out there. What I am leaning towards looking at are : 2000+ Mitsubishi Eclipses, 2000+ Volvo's, 2000+ Cadillac Sevilles (with the price of gas who knows), and I guess some other stuff along the way if it strikes my interest. I am lucky to be here and I thank you all for your concerns and well wishes.

I love car-shopping. Is MY2000 your cutoff? What's your price range? That's a wide variety of vehicles you mention, there. What are your requirements? I would think Maximas and even some BMWs might be within scope.

I would have to say 2000 would be my cutoff. I like a lot of cars out there and the new Maximas and BMW's are real nice. I am trying to stay around $200 per month on a car. I am planning on making a $5000 down payment, depending on how much I get for my car and everything in it that got ruined. Seems like the new Maxima's are a bit out of my price range. I don't really care for the older bodystyle. I am looking at some BMW's online but it seems for about 12-14k I can only get a Beemer with close to 100k miles on the clock. Hopefully I can find a car pretty quickly, as I will be driving my mom's 2000 Taurus for the time being. Still having to wait to get a loaner car.

An interesting note on my accident is that I found out the guy who hit me owns one of the banks in this town. The truck he was driving was actually in the bank's name. He's got money thats for sure and my insurance agent says he expects him to try to get this all worked out pretty quick.

Well things can happen down the road with back pain and such. I'm being serious. Just make sure you don't close the deal in case something happens. Make sure you are checked out to bottom by a couple specialists.

Sorry your Tour took one for you, but at least she saved your life.

Anyone know some good cars in the $12,000 or lower range? THe only car that I can really find that is pretty nice is a 2001 Mazda Millenia S with 48,000 miles for $8500. I am looking for some more ideas because I just want to get a bigger arrange of options raher than just focusing down on one right now. TIA!

Exactly, tell this to Ray...
You can look at Olds Auroras for that price range. I got my '01 w/29K miles for about that. Think of it as a baby Seville.

Just be glad you're alive...

I know how you feel, I lost one of my first cars (1979 Celica GT Coupe) when it went right into a '76 Montecarlo (kid didn't see the stop sign)

It's only metal & plastic after all...

You could've ended dead (or in a wheelchair)

I feel for your loss...
