Hi, I was just wondering what is the current mileage on your current Ford Contour if you don't mind me asking. I am just doing a poll versus a Ponitac Grand Am (95-97). My buddy claim that Grand AMs can get to a higher mileage before they go out (without any major repairs).
Year and mileage will do just fine.
thanks. I hope that our contour last longer
1998 SVT 94,xxx miles before 1st problem(waterpump)
1999 SVT 44,xxx miles no problems
1998 SVT #1 = 66k
1998 SVT #2 = 137k
1998 svt contour: 33,xxx
no big problems yet
99 CSVT - 118k
I blew my diff, but that was my own fault.
1999 Contour LX 4 cylinder - 82,000 miles
'98 SVT - hit 72k this morning. changed one oxygen sensor around 70k, no other probs.

There's no way for either of you to "win" that argument unless you're sampling numbers in the hundreds of thousands. For the record, there are individuals here with over 250,000 miles.
My 98 CSVT just turned 80,000 miles.
My CSVT has 119K miles and still running strong. But my parents' Grand am had 245K when my brothers girlfriend totaled it. Just my .02, but those Grand-am's seem to run forever.
98 SVT, 113k miles, engine replaced at 93k.
1997 Contour GL 4 Cycl.
103K but has to rebuid my transmission
96' GL zetec 143k
first major repair was the waterpump (130k) replaced the timing belt after that.. other stuff was just basic maintenece or recall work.
115k on my v6. At 104k replaced head gaskets, Wife didn't think of asking me what the lights on the dash ment.
140300 on the dot! only had to put in a new tranny and clutch since it was out. other then minor fix's a few sensors..
CSVT 187,000 and counting...most of the suspension has been replaced and the motor has around 60k on it...still running strong...
100k, only had to replace valve cover gasket.
98 SVT - 49K... water pump blew twice in 2 months, but now its fixed and thats my only problem.. knock on wood
Dang near 82K 97 4 banger ATX, no MAJOR problems yet. Just a few sensors here and there. Knocks on wood as well.
183925.9 miles on the 96 Mistake
201,100 today on my '95 V6 MTX tour
1998 SVT Contour 153,000 miles, engine runs really strong.
Cat's went, got headers now, alt. went, and starter went.
And yes i still race it, autocross and open track events.
157,500 running great just a few dents now from the deer!!
131,955 99 contour se zetec.
97,XXX on the 1999 LX
The thermostat died....and have had the timming belt replaced just recently. The AC compressor died a couple years ago, hasn't been fixed.
~80,000 miles when the tranny gave up. TH said it must have been a bad build, which probly means that someone had torn it apart and sucked at putting it back together, which caused my early failure.
Currently at 100,500 miles and needing my Team Ford parts to show up (damn APO mail!) so I can throw on some headers and rebuild the intake to get rid of my pesky vacuum leaks.
1995 Contour GL Duratec MTX - 300 892km when it went to the junk yard. Purchased at 260 800km. Pretty much had to replace everything from water pump to transmission.
1998 Mystique GS Sport Zetec MTX - 253 411km when I traded it in. Purchased at 210 000km. Had to do front brake rotors, temp sender and thermostat.
Currently - '95 Contour GL Zetec MTX - 265 200km. Bought it with 264 300km. Needs a clutch and probably a wheel bearing on the driver's side. Otherwise, runs extremely well.
I heart teh Zetec.

Sorry Joe but i got you beat.
'97 GL MTX has 220,768
the only thing thats been done is maintance, including the timeing belt twice, and front and rear struts
My '00 SE has nearly 167K. The ONLY things that have been replaced (other than brakes, fluids, tires, sparkplugs/wires, filters) are the battery (once), alternator (once), IAC valve, throttle positioner sensor, HVAC fan resistor, A/C condensor (damn raccoon), struts/springs (replaced with a BAT kit 100K miles ago), windshield (damn buzzard), exhaust.
My '97 SE has nearly 119K. The things that have been replaced was the whole exhaust system.
& now both the spark plugs & battery need to be replaced.

Dang!!!! Do you drive for a living? You really know how to treat a car.
98 CSVT with ~175,000 miles on the clock. Original motor, tranny, clutch, exhaust, cats, etc. On the second set of spark plugs and brakes. I did a brake job around 95k and tune up at 120k. The original owner did no work on the car. Most expensive repair was replacing some bushings in the front suspension, $600 or so. Its on the second water pump and starter. I've done a couple wheel bearings also. Other than that it has been just regular maintenance and/or little things.
It sees redline at least half a dozen times a day and I cruise at about 85 mph to and from work, except where the speed traps are
The SVT is quite tough, but it is starting to get a lot of squeaks and rattles though.
2000 with 77K. Since it was purchased last June, I've only changed oil, and waxed it four times.... Bought it with 75K.

no i dont drive for a living. the car was actually my dads and he drove it about 800-1000 miles a week from late 97-03. we got the car with 12k on it and he gave it to me with about 175k in 03 and ive been driving it ever since.
98 SVT with 84,500. ABS problem and CEL on. Both currently getting checked out.
Hit 65,000 today. Got it with 30,000 in June '03. Only thing really done, besides mods and normal stuff like fluid changes, tires, brakes, etc, was a tie rod.
I've got about 88,775 miles on my ride.
No issues. **knocks wood*
I've done the preventive stuff like change out the waterpump, belts, tensioner, tranny fluid, brake fluid and coolant flushes. I change the oil (Mobil 1) at regular intervals also.

Ive owned a Mystique which we all know is basicly a contour, and I own a 94 grand am se 2.3l 5spd which to be honest with you is the most unreliable chevy or gm made product i have ever owned. And to get parts for that pos you can forget it. I can find parts for a 1980 chevy monza easier then i can the crap am

Exactly. Plus you would have to consider the different engines/tranny's offered. I know with the G'am's quad 4 there were a lot of failures!
But an overall total would be cool.
Current 98' has 110,000 miles
SVT was also a 98' with 189,000 and still running with original clutch and all.
110 000 miles 3third owner
