What's in the mystery can? Is it really from the 1920's?
If you've been following this thread, and would like to find out, Elky has agreed to take donations of $1 per person minimum for those curious to see the contents of the can. Thread link for those who may have missed it.
All funds collected will go toward the contour.org forum fund, and the grand opening will take place at Spring Zing 2006 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Funds can be donated through PayPal: elky83 @ comcast .net

***** Include your CEG name w/ your donation! *****

Want to see the mystery can opened live? Register for Spring Zing and stick around after the banquet on Saturday.

I meant to note that i can not accept credit card payments thru Paypal. I dont have a business account.
if a transfer from a bank account or paypal balance can't be made, you can use the e-check option thru paypal. it takes a few days to clear, but i can accept them.

And watch the room clear because of the horrid smell of a 50 year old can of beans

Too bad i'm not going to SZ... that'd almost be worth it lol

Ha! I was just going to say that this was going to be the most expensive can of beans ever. I hope that they are magic beans at least.

probably not. the whole reason of canning food is because it stops bacteria like that from growing.

Just beware of any cans that are starting to expand. That usually means that the contents are spoiling for some reason.

Ummmm... Going to watch an old can get opened is worth it. But the car/ enthusiasts coming together for a weekend full of related events isnt????

Go knaub your car
I'm thinking even if the can's contents do stink, no one will notice. Especially with the likes of Stazi and SQL there with their beer and Arby's poo-gas (and the rest of you Arby's eaters).

Paypal sent, though I won't be at SZ. either way, its worth it to support the communnity, plus: getting all of you guys to puke? BONUS!

2nd try. PayPal sent.

I think Geraldo should be there to open it like when he opened that Egyptian tomb or whatever it was on TV.
If its going to be opened at SZ I bet there is bananas in that can!

It would be cool to have side bets going on to see if someone can guess the contents. If not Jim and Mark should give one of the many donations to SZ as a prize for the winner that guesses the contents.

No Arby's stink-bombs from me this year

Besides, we're at a different hotel this year so is there any other place to eat late at night within walking distance of the new hotel?...Hopefully it ain't taco bell
I don't want to know what is in Elky's can... I'm guessing lots of poo?

As of 7:15 this morning we have $20 donated.
c'mon guys, you have the time to post about the can, so take a couple of minutes and send a buck or two over.

That sounds like a great idea. Maybe you should charge a submission fee for submitting formal guesses on the contents. Make it like $5-10 or so. Drum up some more revenue for the site. Make it a good prize, something most people would want.

The only problem I can see with that is what to do in the case of multiple correct guesses. Maybe the first submitted correct guess take the prize?

Update: $45 donated so far!!

i also want to ask that you put your CEG Screen name with the paypal, so i can compile a list of who donated and give credit where credit is due. (just screen names will be listed not $$)

Unless of course everyone would prefer to keep it entirely anonymous.
real name - Mark Rowe although you should be able to tell who I am from my email address.

Thats from Spaceballs (towards the end) and a WB Cartoon on Looney Toons.
If I decide to sign up for SZ I'll be sure to donate, it's worth the $1 to see what is in the can.
This kind of stuff is what makes CEG so great.

this is great guys, we have almost $70 already!

its only a buck (or more if you want) and if the majority of us donate $1 we will get a ton of cake to donate to the site.
Now put a picture of it on Ebay & sell a future vid clip of the mystery can when it gets opened at SZ! You'll generate THOUSANDS!
I / Team Ford are in. $1 on the way.

This ought to be fun.

Allright can opener (and spare) CHECK.
Digi camera?
CAN?

I still think you could make some more moolah for the forum by taking bets on the contents. Start maybe an hour or two prior and let people examine the can. Make it like $10 or something. Winner (or winners) tkae 50% of the take, rest goes to the forum.

An idea.

ENJOY ALL YOU ZINGERS ! Take lots of photos for us non-attendees. No more Banana BS.

Elky got owned by the can opener..... *points and laughs at Elky*
I'm suspecting the stuff was not tar. It is more likely black mastic. NASTY stuff. I had to get rid of a bunch of it that was used to hold down the wood flooring in my house. Rented a 400 pound electric power scraper and bought 3 new blades. Still didn't get it all up, but enough to minimize the smell & put down carpet & tile.

im gonna have to agree with the mastik comment. was there any type of flooring that would have used that in the room?? i've accidentally sealed a bunch of crap in walls during my days of swinging a hammer.
wait til you see the pics of me wearing it as warpaint.
It may have been "tar appearing", but I think it should be tested in a lab to find out for sure. Being a conasouier or stripes, the black stripes on FrenchBlue's face from that very can looked great

it is defintly roof tar.

i wonder how much a lab test would cost? i think if it were food, it would still resemble food when opened, since it wouldn't rot unless the can was opened.

yeah it was pretty nasty.
I washed it right off.
gooey face FTW!
