I find it hard to believe, but I drove my 95 off the lot ten years ago today. Time sure flies!

It's got just under 110K miles and desperately needs some TLC in the maintenance dept!

Congrats Lance. now where's that dancing banana when I need it...

Sweet. My '97 should have right about the same mileage as your '95 when it's 10th birthday rolls around. It's hard to think that I've been riding and driving this car for almost a decade.

Better get that wire harness issue checked.
Posted By: Hydramatic Re: 10 Year Milestone - 11/16/05 10:11 PM
He has 110K so he can't get it done free. However, I'm sure Lance would've checked before now.

Congrats!! I hope my car makes it that far. "knocking on wood"

Congrats on ten happy years . What an impression that car made on you . Enough to create a whole website in it's honor !! Thanks for the effort , Lance !!

Now, Lance.. look back ten years.. to the day you got it..

Did you, once, stop and think, "Gee.. I think I'll make a website about this car.. maybe 12,000 people will join it, too!!!"

Again, I am so thankful that you took those steps back then, and that you are allowing it to continue, even now.

Here's to a wonderfully underappreciated platform, and those that are able to see them for what they are...

To be honest, Lance, I never thought you were going to keep the car this long ... Christy used to hint that a Subaru was in your future, about three years ago. Congrats for keeping it ... being the first owner .. amazing!

I think you should keep it forever ... you've had it so long now

It's ironic that in this case a manufacturer made the best car in the first year of production!

It probably has to do with OBD I and II. Us OBD II Contours have more CEL codes to deal with.

Yeah. Ignorance is bliss.

My 10th anni comes up in January, but I think my car was already built by the time Lance bought his. (Sep 95 build date.) I just ticked over 75k.

I think I found CEG sometime in 1998. It was after the Contour-L mailing list days, but it was a pretty primitive BB.

Ahh. Memories.

Now those are memories. First time I remember opening my mailbox to find like 126 emails in 24 hours. Then I switched to digest format lol

But those were the days. I remember Lance, Ray McNairy, and others who just loved these cars.
Posted By: BrApple_dup1 Re: 10 Year Milestone - 11/17/05 07:23 PM
the car definately has to have something special for an owner to keep it for ten years ... great job and as others have said thank you for this site, it is a great resource

and on a side not, I got my 95 Mystique in 2000 but it has a September 94 build date

it still purs away and handle 165 miles a day like it was new and it has 160k on it and I got it with 83k

Uhhmm.. no. This site is made & populated by people interested in one particular model of Ford. Most of us don't really care about the F-150 or Crown Vic, and for those who do, there are plenty of forums for those and pretty much every other model.

However it would be nice if there were a general Ford site that was any good.. GM has two very nice forums (gminsidenews.com, cheersandgears.com), it would be nice if there was a Ford equivalent.

I drove my Pacific Green 1995 GL off of the lot a little over 10 years ago as well. Two years and a half years later, I traded it in on a 96 SE in Cabernet Red. I had well over 130K miles on it.

How do you guys manage to drive so little? I have had my 2000 SE Sport since Sept 11th, 2002 and I have 123K now. It had 47K when I bought it.

My 96 GL has it's 10th birthday sometime this month.

I'm assuming you have another one besides the 98 Black SVT otherwise your calculator needs new batteries.

And Lance, thank you very much to the contributions you've made and helped make to the world of the Ford Contour. This site and it's members have helped me immensely through the past 2 years. Props to you, man, and to us.

i think goonz is going by his build date which for one of the first 98's,late 96 sounds about right for his build date...

I thought you could only call it a 1998 model if it was built after Jan 1, 1997.
Posted By: rouar Re: 10 Year Milestone - 11/18/05 03:14 PM
Now Goonz has to scan in his SVT certificate to prove it to you guys.

His SVT is #9 (yes, one of the first ones built), and was indeed built on Nov. 11, 1996.

Checked it out at 99K and noticed some very slight cracking in one spot that was easily repairable by me if it got worse.

I did not feel like dealing with the hassle and the possibility that the dealership would really screw it up.

My build date is 6/21/95 -- it sat on the lot for quite a while before I bought it as a previous year leftover.

Gosh lance maybe you should read here Last Ford-funded 95 wiring harness recall?...

The cutoff on mileage is 100K. Lance has 110K. Ole'?

Now that is something I'd really like to see.....a 1998 SVT built in late 1996.

Lance: May I ask how you know the exact build date of your Contour? I didn't know there was a way to verify the day on our plain old GLs/LXs/SEs ... and all my door jamb sticker gives is the month ...
Posted By: Auto-X Fil Re: 10 Year Milestone - 11/20/05 05:55 PM
I'm pretty sure mine is April 1995. 160k on the chassis, but the original engine gave up the ghost at 110k. Faster than ever - and no CELs for the time being!
Posted By: frenchblueC2_dup1 Re: 10 Year Milestone - 11/20/05 06:32 PM
look at your last service receipt from the dealership.
it'll be right on there near where they list out the VIN.

my cars 10 birthday was last month..(build date) although i've had it since december 17th of 2000...and i've been a member since jan.or 01
Posted By: zetec herman Re: 10 Year Milestone - 11/21/05 02:32 AM
I never knew the month. I looked at a dealer receipt and noticed it was Novemeber 10, 1995. It is now November 20. I missed his birthday by 10 days.
