LOL we will wait to wait and see what his next post is like I ofter floor the pedal right to the floor.
I floor it often, usually at least once a day to keep the cobwebs away
"How often do you floor it?"
...Every time....nobody notices though, because it's so slow.

LOL! better be careful , I know how them Petosky Police are .
How is this a Duratec Performance Modifcation post?
...Now being moved to General Discussion...
Why would I buy a CSVT if I inteded to floor it ?

Yeah, but you got a Duratec, I got a Zetec, I'm pretty sure you'd notice it more in the Duratec then in the Zetec.
For me? Its NEVER been floored or taken over 3000 RPM. Don't believe in abusing machinery.

Can you even shift under 3000 rpms ? ?
But back to the topic, I also beat the hell out of my car. I have been known now and then to downshift just so i can floor it. If I wanted a nice car to baby i wouldnt have bought a Ford Contour SVT.

yes you can..I do it all the time!
Dude I'm flooring it right now.
Smack that biotch daddio...
I used to get it up to 4.5-5K occasionally until my ATX started hesitating between first and second. Since that began (about a year ago) I've been treating it much nicer, although once in a blue moon I'll take it up again to feel the power of the V6 under my hood.
I would say about 2-3 times a day. Haven't done it much lately because I'm on a fuel economy roll after my UIM/LIM/new spark plugs and wires procedure. I'm getting aroung 25mpg mostly city driving.

For me, the only reason I bought a Mystique was that I wanted a luxurious compact economy car. I wanted something close to my old BWM 325e when it came to luxury and size. and performance was not a factor for me. I'm middle aged, so I just wanted an econobox to commute to work.

While I can commend you for the absolute change in driving habit it would take to drive in your manner at ALL times, I would have to state that I see "abuse" differently than you, I guess.
I can't imagine the gunk built up on your secondaries (never been opened, you say), the wear your car WOULD see IF you ever took her that high, now (never been broken in, old materials now would wear something fierce!!), or the mileage reduction you "should" be getting from LACK of use. Considering the powerband of this engine, I would think that you'd be doing ALOT more harm than good driving it beneath the major portion of the powerband at all times. (not saying that you are killing your car.. that wasn't a fixed point of reference, more relative, actually.)
Ray
Floor it all the time in the contour just to get into traffic. In the escort, it depends. It doesn't get quite as good gas mileage when dogging on it as the zetec does, so I try to go easy on it. Those burnouts tonite were fun though.

I completely agree. As long as the engine isnt overrevved, its within its limits, and youre not hurting a thing.
I know I am selling my car, but I wanna chip it just because it feels so good up to the rev limiter. I know she has more in her.

Dude, WTF is up with these threads? I've been staying out of it but i'm gonna give you an answer to this one and the one where you asked when to powershift!
Heres what you do, go out and floor it bounce off the rev limiter in first and powershift to second, do the same in second then come out of it before you get wound up in 3rd, I dont want you to hurt yourself. Don't let off the gas, Just shift after you bounce off the limiter acouple of times! Come back and tell us how it went, or how long your car lasts!
At least then we might get apost asking what does that knocking sound mean?
OH! by the way I floor it every chance I get!
Just beat it!

Only 4.5-5k? I take mine up over 6, sometimes 7k.
i love to floor it, i floor it all the time, it just sounds so good!
i dont get this guy. Same guy that asks where to powershift yet says he doesnt like to floor it.
The only thing from keeping me flooring mine more than I do is gas mileage. You can almost watch the gas gauge drop after a wot pull.
Yeah I like never floor it, mostly for gas mileage, although I don't want to run it at such low rpms that it gunks things up.
I havent taken mine all the way up in a long time. Ive got a bad connecting rod and every time I get the revs up Im afraid Im going to shoot the rod through the block.
Someone sell me a 2.5 with low miles. PLEASE
at 95% of stoplights. and my car has 166,000 miles and has not been in the shop once =)
About everytime i drive it she gets some love, not always up to red, but i like to make sure all the passage ways are cleared out.
I floor mine a lot, since it's a Zetec.
well considering my right fooot is made of lead ifloor it almost all the time besides for when a pig is following me

Yeah, Ray you got a point. I had this on my old car, the original owners (who we bought it from) did not get on this car at all, I could tell because when my sister had it before me she would baby it and it'd run like crap, my dad told her not to baby the car so much she did a lot but got on it once in a while. When I got it that car DID NOT get babied (well it did when I first learned to drive) then it started opening up better but not like it should have, I even ran STP fuel injector cleaner thru it and it ran better after a few times. Blew out carbon from the exhaust like mad.
DO NOT [Repeat] DO NOT ALWAYS BABY YOUR CAR!
I've had my Stique for almost 3 years now, and it hardly ever gets babbied, and it runs great.
I don't. Well I didn't with my automatic 2L contour. Had i have floored it, i would be dead right now from where the wreck happened. On the svt, I will open it to maybe 4500 some days but most days it stays under 4k. Maybe once a week it see's 6k.

Cars are generally designed to be run within their limits. Bone stock there is very little you can do to damage it by pushing it hard.
Trannies ... now that's a different story, but if you do it RIGHT then you should be okay.
I floor the gas every time I get it the car. The only time the pedal stays off the floor is if theres a cop around. All the cars I drive are still alive so I guess it doesn't hurt it too much.

I floored it on accident once.
Mark
That must have been on the dyno mark
But since it wasnt you who floored it, you're techincally ok!
I don't think I have ever babied any of my cars. I don't ALWAYS floor it but I normally get up on that pedal to the speed limit and then go a little over. Then I cruise around in fifth gear.
BTW, this is my Honda *sees a clearing form around him*
Yea, buncha smack talkers. Anyway,
I do floor mine on a daily basis and more than once or twice or even three times. I've never had a problem with her and here is one thing of proof I guess you could say.
I just read up on the SeaFoam treatment. I bought a can of this stuff a while ago to help me crack some exhaust manifold bolts on my wife's old Grand Prix. [censored] worked like a charm. I then heard that you can use it in your intake manifold. I did mine yesterday and I blew smoke out of my 200,000 mile engine for about 15 seconds. I'm hearing about people blowing smoke for like 10-15 minutes. So whatever I'm doing, (flooring it) it's working.
BTW, I do still miss my old mystique and once this Honda's ticket is up, My butt is finding me an SVT.

Well Ray, my engine is running just fine at 180,000 miles, and if its gunked up, I don't really care. I didn't buy it specifically for the power. To get the leather interior in the Mystique, the V-6 was mandatory. I drove my BMW 325 for 253,000 miles, never flooring it either or taking it close to redline, and it ran just great. I don't buy you guy's reasons to drive these engines to the extreme. To each his own!! Besides, I'm still getting 30 MPG on the highway. I bought this car purely as a compact economy car, and nobody is going to convice me that its anything more than that.
You know, I rarely feel the need to floor it anymore, what with that uncomfortable-sounding faux-supercharger sound my car builds up after 5K RPM. Usually 3/4 throttle gets me the exact same results as WOT. Pathetic right?

Lol, I did that the 1st few times just to hear the whine What is that anyhow?? the Engine sucking in massive air, or the tranny screaming mercy
Anhow, I rarely floor it anymore...

My '96 ATX V6 shifts at 6250. And I've always wondered what that whine/ringy sound was. I noticed it on my '95 Zetec and my '96 V6 both. But it's nonexistant on my dad's '01 Sable with the "good" 3.0. Anybody know why? I find it really annoying, so i treasure every moment i spend with the Sable floored. Which isn't often, seeing as how I'm specifically not insured on it.
How often do you breathe?

How in the world do you drive under 4K? Unless I'm in town or around cops, I'm at 80 before I know it. I'm invariably at 5000 or 5500 all the time. Hitting higher rev's is so easy (and fun), I honestly don't know how someone can have a car capable of doing what our's do and not drive it quickly. No disrepect intended, it's just hard to understand. I guess it's funny how I think the way I drive is normal then I look in my mirror and everybody is fading away. I'm not reckless, I just get up to speed quickly.
It could also be because I'm a Gemini. While the post is rambling and wordy, it's still interesting. And it describes me very well.
"The number one worst drivers were Geminis, "typically described as restless, easily bored and frustrated by things moving slowly," explained Warren Duke, Suncorp's national manager of personal insurance. "They had more car accidents than any other sign.""
I've been lucky as far as accidents are concerned, mainly because I try to remain aware of my surroundings and not make any stupid moves.

Premium is expensive, I am getting paid crap this summer, and college is eating any left over money
Besides top, going slow is how i keep it so clean
Originally posted by Digital Slacker:

Premium is an average of $2 to maybe $2.50 per tank more. (i.e. a drop in the bucket, a trip to vendo land, or half a fast food meal )
With premium fuel you get better gas mileage and performance. Even if you only get 1 mpg better efficiency running the "proper" fuel grade that equals .5 to .7 gallons less fuel for the same mileage per tank. That's is $1.25 to $1.50 saved.
So how much money are you really saving running the wrong grade fuel? Maybe 75 cents a tankfull. Yippee...
If you drop 2mpg you are losing money!!!
Don't even get me started on the BS ethanol or re-oxygenated crap that is a steaming load of beaurocratic nonsense. That is ALWAYS a lose, lose proposition. Power, mileage, emissions, and cost!

Demon,
I don't think he was stating that he runs less than premium.. actually.. oppositely:
He runs premium, but it is expensive, and that is his justification for running the car at 4K or less (which the next poster was wondering how its possible to drive in such a manner...)
We all know you don't read the thread, just whichever posts happen to be visible on your screen when you are on the last post. We won't hold it against ya!

Why don't you quote half a sentence out a context a little more.
Read the entire sentence please. You know the "more per tankful" part.

Actually my response was for this whole thread.
Umm maybe not...
I have two pages up at the same time and I could have sworn this was the one about not running premium in the SVT because the owner was being a cheap ass and not thinking it through...
Damn pain killers...
Well my comment is still valid.
