Who has (or had) high miles on their Contour? What engine do you have?
Posted By: Big Daddy Kane Re: Who has High Miles ? - 04/15/05 04:15 PM
96 Zetec ATX w/ 160K miles...

Problem list:
-All suspension bushings shot (and I do mean ALL... couldn't even align it due to that).
-very loud valvetrain tick
-didn't idle well (2 foot while stopping was the norm)
-normal temp was right on the edge of the red
-tranny would overheat and bang shift
-rear brakes junk (replaced all parts, still didn't work worth a crap)
-power locks didn't work

Otherwise was a good beater car IMO, I'm sure if I kept it I could have got well over 200K out of it.

Oh, and welcome to CEG...

I've got over 103K miles on my Duratec V6. There are others on here with higher miles.

Just shy of 200K on my 95 V6 with MTX.

160K miles on mine and the thing ran great (minus the leaky injector) until I hit that deer on sunday. Well, actually I still managed to drive it back 50 miles with a leaky radiator and it still ran great!

125,000 mi.

1 Alternator
1 set of exh. manifolds (luckily under warranty)
2 sets of upstream O2 sensors
1 oil pan (voluntarily)

More foglight bulbs than I care to count.

163,xxx miles
problem list:
nothing
Posted By: Driver Re: Who has High Miles ? - 04/15/05 06:54 PM
Maintenance and problems since car was out of 36,000 mile warrantee.

Fuel Pump at 57,000 miles. Removed bottom screen and no problems since.

Upstream firewall O2 sensor at 59,000 miles.

IAC valve at 87,000 miles.

Alternator at 95,000 miles.

IMRC at 97,000 miles.

AC compressor (clutch) bad but I replaced with a new compressor with clutch at 104,000 miles.

Replaced at all O2 sensors at 150,000 miles due to check engine light. Probably should have only changed the upstream ones. Check engine went away and never came back.

My idle pulley is making noise so it does need to be replaced. The belt is still good. Replaced the tensionor pully thinking it was the problem at 130,000 miles.

Replaced the master clutch cylinder at 137,000 miles.

I am on my third clutch. The first went out at 92,000 miles and was worn out. The second at 152,000 miles due to a leaking slave. That one hurt! Now using Pennzoil Sycomesh trans fluid. So far so good. Never had any syco or fork problems. My trans uses 3.5 quarts of fluid so maybe I have the updated MX-75. Though my car was built in late Dec 99 and had auto fluid from factory.

I do have a small raspy noise when I start the car up cold from about 100,000 miles. It sometimes does it and sometimes it does not. I notice in the summer the noise does not happen as much or is as loud.

Original water pump. Every 30,000 mile I have Ford flush and replace my coolant.

Used Mobil 1 5W30 every 5,000 miles since 5,000 miles.

Installed DMD since about 57,000 miles.

Replaced struts at 125,000 miles with Bilsteins. Replaced rear sway bar bushings at 130,000 miles. What a difference!

Replaced many tires. Have 205P55-16 V rated Zien Falcons. Great tire.

Done many brake jobs. Rear only once though. Rears last about 100,000 miles. Fronts last about 40,000 miles.

Only three lights went out. (One Fog, one rear signal and one rear license plate light).

Replaced battery at 58,000 miles.

95 SE V6 2.5 MTX
just turned over 169,000
owned since about 130,000
replaced clutch, the whole AC system, and the tires a couple times
definitely plan to clear 200k *God willing*, motor's good. doesn't idle too well, could use a new battery ("could use" used lightly).

only other problem is that it has some type of rattle when you start it up, and when you're coming out of idle into 1st gear (really low rpms). no idea what that is, but the car still runs gooood

99 V6 SE SPORT w 85k plus or minus some...
Posted By: Martin_dup1 Re: Who has High Miles ? - 04/15/05 08:29 PM
2000 SE V6 with nearly 142K. I bought it brand new in February 2000. It still has the original battery! Only non-maintainance items replaced have been the IAC valve, heater motor resistor, and alternator. The AC condensor has been replaced, thanks to a wayward raccoon.

Current issues:
1) CEL has been on for 42K miles. PO402 code. Still runs fine, I'll get around to fixing it one day.

2) Has the infamous fuel pickup problem at 1/4 tank.
It's been doing that for a long time too. I'll fix it one day.

3) A few squeaks and rattles (easliy masked by turning up the radio).

That's about it. Best damn car I've ever had!

Posted By: GR8SVT_dup1 Re: Who has High Miles ? - 04/15/05 08:32 PM
I had 225K on my 96 SE in October before I sold it.
I just got word this week that it hit 240K - but the clutch burned out.

It was a Duratec engine.

98 se
5 speed
162k and still runs great
original clutch (how long will it last?)
3rd water pump
replaced 2 oxy sensors
imrc
plug wires
brake pads once
oil pan gasket (but it still leaks from the timing cover)
many tires
many alignments
tie rod ends
plugs once
a/c does not work
check engine light is on (bank 1 lean, waiting for it to tell me which o2 sensor to change)

Great car overall
my bigest gripe is tire wear.

Bank 1 Lean is normally the upstream O2 sensor near the front manifold, not the one before the cats under the car.

It could also come from a dirty MAF.

98 GL V6 MTX with 144,000 miles and counting. Replaced waterpump at 80K or so, only time the Contour has broke down on me. Well it didn't really break down, I just stopped to avoid baking my engine.

Also replaced the parking brake cable, brakes (at 100,000+ miles, I know I replaced the rear ones, not sure about front ones), still on the original clutch. Also had to get the fuel filler flapper thing fixed. That's about it.

Still gets ~300 miles a tank, so I guess the engine is in good shape. I do regular oil changes with 5w30 at 3000-4000 miles. I changed the plugs and wires at 80k, probably due again. I also had the radiator flushed at 100k or so. I've had the PCV valve replaced a few times, and I've ran a few bottles of fuel injector cleaner through it.

I have 330,600ish KM on my car which converts to around 200,000 miles or so. I own a 98 SVT Contour. Any problems I have had with the car were just regular maintenance items or things that just wore out. I still love it and look forward to another 300,000 KM.

113K miles, I bought it at 47K, the only issue I had was the frikkin fuel pump. Oh, and hellish dash warp. This is on a 2K SE w/ 2.5 Duratec.

i have an amazon green 2000 svt contour w/ almost 108,700 on the dash. i bought it in july 2003 w/ 77500 on it.

here's my list o' probs & replacements since i've had it:
1. fuel pump (went out when i was test driving it!!)
2. 3rd gear synchro went two days after i bought it, had
the WHOLE tranny redone, and the darn thing went out
again after 18k!!! (GRRR that's another $2k to fix )
3. new imrc (at about 85k, not sure)
4. front right wheel bearing
5. new spark plugs & wires at 87k (need to get double
plats, it doesn't run its best)
6. sunroof sticks open sometimes
7. starts when it wants to! i think my flywheel is bad
8. bad exhaust smell on acceleration or at high speeds,
(not sure if i have an exhaust leak or if i have bad
cat. converters)
9. new set of tires at 100k
10. RPM'S stick sometimes, i think i need to do the
infamous "throttle hang" fix!! (recent prob.)
11. driver's side outer tie rod (108K)
12. driver and passenger side stabilizer links (the pass.
side was so bad that my brother broke it IN HALF WITH
HIS HAND!!!!!) just replaced those on saturday @
108,500k)

so, other than that........THE CAR RUNS GREAT!!!!!!!! i really do love it

I bought my 98.5 CSVT with 105K miles on it and am now up to 128K. It is 99% stock, runs strong and has been very reliable. I have put new tires on, aligned the front end, sanded & polished the headlamps, installed a K&N drop-in filter, replaced the IAC, replaced an 02 sensor, replaced the cabin air filter, and that's about it. Overall, I have been very pleased.

I have 90K on mine and I bought it in april 27th of 02 with 31k on it. Heres what I done to it.

Changed the oil every 3k with castrol GTX 5W-30.

New plugs at 47k(still on the original wires)

New pass side tie rod end at around 60-63k(if im not mistaken on the miles)

New air filter at 80k miles and prior to that at 47k miles.(changed twice)

New fuel filter at 88k and yes it was clogged

Tranny flush and new tires and driver side tie rod end at 86k.

That's all I can think of. It has treated me well for 3 yrs as you can see.

Just about to turn 150,000 miles on my '98 SVT. I've had it since June 1999 when it had 33,000+ miles. The only former owner was Ford Motor Company (it was leased for 1 yr to someone in Atlanta, GA).

I've had a few issues: water pump, rack & pinion, belt tensioner. Overall it's been a good car.

Posted By: Beachboy_dup1 Re: Who has High Miles ? - 04/24/05 04:36 AM
By next week, it will turn 174,000 miles. Still running original water pump, ignition cables, rear brake linings. Only items replaced have been the usual fluid/filter changes, wiper blades, one set of front brake pads and rotors at 105,000 miles, first set of crappy Goodyear Eagle tires lasted only 40,000 miles, second set of Michelin tires lasted 65,000 miles, current set of Michelin tires have almost 70,000 miles on them with 7/32nds tread left. Replaced first set of spark plugs at 60,000 miles, second set lasted 75,000 miles.
